Shoppers in England will have to wear face coverings in all shops from Friday July 24.Police will be expected to enforce the law - and there will be £100 fines for those who refuse.
The police however (in my area at leat) have said they will not be enforcing the law here as they simply don't have the man power.
Some shopkeepers have said they nor their staff are going to intervene because it's not their job to ensure laws are followed and they dont want the conflict.
So it seems, if someone simply doesn't want to wear a face covering, and they refuse if asked to do so....no one will be doing sod all the make them.

I wore a mask for the first time yesterday whilst in a public place, I cant say it bothered me at all, though I did smudge my lippy a bit.
A small price to pay to try to keep healthy.
Will you or do you wear a mask, if not....why not?

Going to Morrisons in a tick because they have a phone repair shop there and I will be wearing a mask because unlike so many I am not a selfish bastard - plus it will cover my hideous mug which can only be for the good of society!

I thought it was yesterday and went to local shop and no bugger else was wearing them. I was reminded it’s Friday

Well the phone is truly fucked and I felt like the Masked Ranger because I was just about the only person wearing one.
Boris should have made it law because no bastard here is following any advice.
At least I had the satisfaction of giving a death stare to all the skinhead, tattooed 'macho' men poncing about without one when they were about to take the piss and none did.
That's Hull for you. :(

That's Brits for you.
Only Americans hate wearing masks more than us. There's even articles about why do Americans hate face masks.

It can be enforced. But even it was law as such. I doubt any Country has enough Police force to stand outside every shop and make sure its enforced if need be.
Its largely a culture thing face masks aren't in our culture. Unlike elsewhere in the World.

Well I have done my duty, if a load of 3000 cunts like that illegal rave a few days ago causes a second wave then my conscience is clear.
Fuck them.

Too right. I'll definitely do the same when I'm in a situation that requires it or even when I just believe I should be wearing a face covering.
Most people have an elderly very vulnerable relative. Do it for them if not for no one else. Help alleviate the spread of the virus in your area. Who wouldn't want to do that for those reasons.

Today we drove out to a garden centre in the country.....I would say 70% of people were wearing masks.
The cafe was open, we debated a bit, then decided to go for a coffee and cake as there is an outside eating area there.....Oh the freedom of once more sitting out and being waited on.
We chose a secluded table in the sun, seems everyone else wanted shade, and before we were admitted to the cafe area, we had to sanitise our hands and sign a track and trace form....which was fine by me.

Possibly the fact that their licence can be taken away if they sell drink/tobacco to the underage ensures they follow the law.

Sainsburys havenow said it wont be challenging people, some people will automatically be exempt on medical grounds, and a spokesman for Sainsburys has said they don't intend to quiz people to see if they apply or not.

Mandatory obviously means required by law.
I guess law-abiding people and people who care about keeping the virus levels low will wear face covering when required. Genuinely exempt on medical grounds clearly that would be a different story.
Its not an exact science by any means scientists still say on the whole that masks may only help a tad. Its more a case of every little thing probably helps right now.

The onus will obviously be on the person themselves to wear a face covering, however, with such a half hearted response as to who is actually going to enforce this, I can see many selfish people just not bothering.
Now in many shops social distancing has become much more lax, I think everyone should make the effort to keep others safer by wearing a mask....better late than never.

I have only done that ONCE...and with this thread....are you watching my every move anon??
What I may very occasionally do is start a similar thread on both forums to see how different people on two different forums will debate the topic.
If you post in or read both forums this means you have the added advantage of reading or responding to my words of wisdom not once...but twice.
Lucky people.

Listening to shopkeepers talking on local radio, the mandatory wearing of masks in shops that started today is going to be a bit of a minefield if people don't want to comply....and there will always be some awkward sods.
The police are implying it's up to the shop to challenge or refuse admittance, the shop owners are mostly saying it's down to the police to sort it.
Companies like Sainsburys and JD sports are big enough to employ security, yet they are at the forefront of passing the buck, smaller shops where the staff consist of one or two family members I can well understand if they dont want the trouble.

We have had mandatory mask laws in Texas for a few weeks. I see 99% compliance as I'm out and about. Law enforcement isn't really enforcing them either. Its sort like wearing a shirt. It's just not socially acceptable to go grocery shopping without one.

Round here looks like the majority are wearing them today. Others I know are also saying the same thing.
Yes the Police Federation have said staff must refuse entry to those not wearing masks. Should be easy enough in all honesty to say you can't stay in here without wearing a face covering. Its mandatory I'm afraid. I'll have to call the Police if you don't wear a face covering. Staff have to do their bit, and then the Police will no doubt do their bit if they are needed. There are other situations in life where people are warned before the Police potentially get called. The staff should give out a warning and clarification of what the situation is. The Police's job is to uphold and enforce the law when need be.
Also if a single soul or two does attempt to walk around a shop without one on. You're gonna get shamed sooner or later. Some people will speak out. My Auntie would for one she's that kind of person. She's previously told people to keep away from her keep a distance in no uncertain terms.
