I seldom travel on public transport.
We have a good tram system in greater Manchester. I have used it three times in the last three years, each time there has been an anti social incident.
I would definitely NOT use the trams alone at night....as someone pointed out to me recently, they are a perverts paradise.
There is no guard, no security, and nothing to aid a lone woman (or man) if a nutter gets on board.

I ride it about twice a year when I cycle and drink shit loads of beer in Dallas. Safer than driving 40 miles one way after beverages..
But I doubt anyone wants to sexually assault me anyway..

I use trains, if I cant take my car. Only with my hub though, not for safety tbh.
I don't feel threatened on a train or bus. I don't travel on them much though.

I think buses are safer, insofar there is a driver who can monitor what's going on.
Trains with closed carriages don't offer much security, just as trams don't. Once the doors are closed you are on your own with whoever else is on board.

The last time I travelled by tram, an old man, obviously drunk, was standing holding onto the bar, presumably waiting for the next stop to get off.
When the doors opened, he fell, and his head was half in half out of the tram. Had the doors closed his head would have been trapped.
I was near the front, I banged on the petition for the driver to be aware. It took a couple of minutes for her to respond, and when she opened the door that separated her cabin from the passengers, she had no idea what was going on.
Presumably she had no working CCTV in her part of the tram, which is dangerous imo.

That's the same here. When at lights I've had to put my window up as the fumes from lorries, skip carriers etc are awful. It goes into one lane because of stupid cycle lanes. It causes more pollution, more lung problems than before. Traffic is immense and getting worse.

I often spent journeys listening to someone health problems etc.
