I know that most people think it is unlikely but I have often wondered if there is some type of existence or experience that occurs after death.
Those who are religious in the traditional sense believe in a God and Heaven and I wish that could be true but it just seems unrealistic to me (no offence to anybody with those beliefs) It has been suggested there is a 50% chance we are actually existing within a simulation.
Certainly something is amiss as Nobel prize winners discovered that when observed ,neutrons behave completely differently to when they think they are not being watched. (I believe it's neutrons, but may be wrong!)So the particles that make up all forms of life do not behave in the manner our science dictates they would. There is so much we do not know. Is it arrogant to assume there is only one realm of existence, the human one ?
I'm just wondering if other FM 's think any type of experience or existence could be possible beyond death. We would all give anything to see our passed loved ones again but I just don't think the world would grant us such a wonderous outcome.

Yes. Because that’s what I want to believe.
It‘s just my way of sensing that any person (or any pet) that I have loved and lost, has never really left me.
Batshit thinking? Maybe so. But as long as I’m not foisting my beliefs onto others - no harm, no foul 🤷🏻♀️

Life? Yes. Consciousness? No.
I think our energy becomes one with the universe and never ends but we have no conscious understanding of it. No one ever "dies."

That's what I want to think too. I would love to believe I could see much loved pets again but science dictates it's a naive notion. Certainly not batshit though..!

I agree with Vam....but it's probably wishful thinking.
People definitely live on in the memories and thoughts of their loved ones....but realistically, I guess that's the only way.
I would be happy to be wrong though.

Interesting thought, but one that raises the question of whether consciousness can exist independently of a material body. Presumably your own thought on that is driven by the spirit of the age, which puts matter at the heart of everything. But if you step back from that, it becomes no more likely that consciousness is a product of chemical activity in the brain than it is that the interplay of electrons is caused by mental life within them.

Sadly I believe you are right but that's a lovely description of passing away. I take it you don't put much stock in the simulation theory?

I tend to believe there is something after death. I take great comfort in thinking my departed loved ones are still around me in one form or another.

My Catholic schooling, with nuns constantly promising eternal life, and eternal damnation if I misplaced a comma in my essays 🤣 - all played a part, too. I’m lapsed these days, but old habits sometimes die hard (no pun intended!).
But when your snoring dog is sprawled belly-up on the couch, then very suddenly flips back over and leaps onto the floor, then sits ramrod straight, ears in fully-pricked radar mode, intently staring for ages at…..absolutely nothing. Those are the moments when we can’t help wondering whether an energy/vibe/essence exists, that is beyond human detection.

I believe in life after death. In my thinking, there is no death, just transitioning into spirit. We leave our overcoat (bodies) and carry on.
We meet our loved ones, anyone we want. We can stay there or reincarnate. Although can only be reincarnated if you haven't learned the lesson you were sent back to achieve.
We have all been here before, we just keep on evolving. 😇

I think the simulation theory of existence is plausible.
There is increasing evidence to show that we may not have free will at all or if we do it is severely limited. That being the case it lead us to think that someone, or something else, may be doing so.

If our free will is limited it could also be because we are predisposed to act or think in a particular way - which might suggest our freedom of choice is limited by our own personal characteristics rather than by a mad scientist plugging thoughts into our heads (which I think is what the simulation theory is?)
On top of that - (or maybe it's the same thing expressed differently) - although we like to think that we're in control of what we think or do, our unconscious minds have a strong driving force over our behaviour, so that a lot of our apparent choices happen automatically with no or very little conscious control.

This sort of thing is exactly what makes me wonder. Animals can sense so much more than us, dogs can smell when their owner is unwell with something as serious as cancer. Who knows what else they can sense? When cats stare in the distance with such intensity and you cannot distract them I wonder what they are seeing that we are not.
I have had one thing happen to me that I cannot explain but it's not at all mystical or even interesting! But still, it cannot be explained. Maybe I'm grasping at straws or assuming significance where there is none. Most people attribute the beginning of life to the Big Bang. But what caused that to happen and what occurred before that? I don't feel science explains enough.

I am hoping you can elaborate on the implications of the observer effect which is highlighted strongly in the "double slit" experiment . Metaphysics is not my strong point which I'm sure surprises you greatly (!) but electrons changing their behaviour when observed means that particles ,the very building blocks of life, do not behave the way they should. This definitely supports the idea of a simulation , which tbh I think is a rather dismal prospect.
But on the flip side at last it is evidence that SOMETHING is going on behind the cosmic scenes that the nay sayers have to consider.

Sorry to butt in on your conversation, but it's probably not so much a case of particles not behaving 'the way they should', but more a case of our lack of understanding of what they're up to. Probably not surprising as the quantum world behaves differently from the world we're used to.
