This time of the year is more poignant when someone dies.

The thought had crossed my mind, I'm very superstitious.

66 Rangers fans died in the disaster.
65 men and boys and one girl.
Eighteen year old Margaret Ferguson.
Margaret had made a teddy for Colin Stein's baby daughter a few weeks earlier and given it to him at his house.
For a long time Colin Stein blamed himself for the disaster.
0-0 until the 89th minute then Celtic scored, Rangers fans start to leave thinking the game is lost and then seconds later Colin Stein equalised and it's 1-1 and some fans tried to get back in.
The inquest absolved him of any blame.

Don't walk on cracks on the pavement, throw salt over your shoulder if you spill it.
There's so many.

I know, but I guess some of them will die out within a generation or two now.
Putting new shoes on the table (mum would go mad if I did this) nine years bad luck if you break a mirror, never pass anyone on the stairs, putting an umbrella up indoors, the list goes on.

One I hadn't heard of was my brother's fiancee years ago wanted to cover all the mirrors when my Granda died because apparently it you see yourself in the mirror beside the coffin you died next.
I think that was a Catholic thing because she was and we weren't and we hadn't heard it until then.
It gave me the creeps though.

I hadn't heard of that either Vita.
I suppose when it was traditional in some communities to have the coffin in the front parlour till the funeral, superstitions were more popular than today.
In fact, I can't think of any new superstitions, they are all passed down from generations before.

Many years ago coffins were always put in the parlour, so people could visit.think
My mum was very superstitious. Don't put umbrella up indoors, new shoes on table, cracked mirror had to go, don't walk under a ladder, spilt salt had to throw some over your shoulder and so on. Drive us nuts lol.

My Grandparents were in the funeral parlour for people to pay their respects.
Other family and friends were too but I didn't go.
I've never seen a dead body.
Well I saw a man who was killed in a car accident once, but he was partially covered with a sheet.
Terrible that.

I can't understand these people who see an accident and gawp at it, get phones out.
I passed through Lockerbie on the train a few days after the Disaster and there was a rush of folk to look out the windows.

It's the anniversary of the Bards birth today.
Scots all over the world will be celebrating the great man with Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.
Did you know that 'Auld Lang Syne' is the second most sung don't in the world efter 'Happy Birthday'
My faither is a big fan of Robert Burns.

How on earth can neeps and tatties be a celebratory food?

If you ever fancy visiting Burns Cottage don't bother Mags.
They swiped all the stuff for the new Burns Museum.
They still charge you over the odds though for a look round the cottage.
Tae a moose, only Burns poem I can recite by heart.
