"NHS England has removed an article examining the subject of first cousin marriage after a public backlash.
A blog published on 22 September by NHS England’s Genomics Education Programme said that marriage between first cousins had “various potential benefits,” while acknowledging that children of first cousins had an increased chance of being born with a genetic condition."
NHS pulls controversial blog on first cousin marriage—but expert argues that it was “factually based” | The BMJ https://share.google/gpNkwas3cmoChhG02
It's always been a rule first cousins can't marry or uncles can't marry nieces.
This is for all the.Muslims who marry their cousins, or uncles marry their nieces, you can't do that, it's disgusting!
Our country they should abide by our rules!
Mags, on a serious note. Why can't other faiths abide by their own culture and religion if they were born and working, paying tax in the UK, as long as they integrate a bit more in.society,?
I don't think any country dictates that Muslims can not follow their own faith many Muslims who are British born see themselves as just as British as you and I.
They want Islam here. This is not a Muslim country.
If you live in another country you abide by their rules. If we lived in Pakistan we wouldn't be be allowed to wave our flags or be a Christian, should work here aswell.
Quite right too.
I have visited Israel a couple of times, there are strict rules of dress code. If you want to visit certain sites, like the wailing wall, Jesus's birthplace etc you follow the rules....why should people not respect the culture of that country if it's for the good of all?
The vast majority do, when I was there I only saw one woman object, she was ejected, I actually felt like applauding.
Maybe the UK should be more unforgiving.
I recall when we discussed the Burqa previously ,Digger wanted to see it banned in the UK but you and I believed if a Muslim lady wanted to adhere to the dress permitted by her religion she should be allowed to. Have you changed your mind or do you want to be more unforgiving in other ways not related to dress, like not allowing Islam in the UK? That doesn't sound like your usual stance but that is what you seem to be agreeing with.
I don't want to argue, it's just you have always maintained the point that you believe ladies should be able to wear the garments their religion dictates in the UK, as long as it's of her own free will.
This is your classic manipulation game again, telling people what their opinions are and trying to pit posters against each other. I thought you had changed but I now see it’s the same old shit stirrer
I'm not "telling anyone their opinion" and if I ever attempted to do so they would just correct me..! Just because my opinion and general political perception differs might make me annoying to some but a shit stirrer I am not.
I will leave that to you hiding your identity and doubtless using a proxy ..and accusing someone else of stirring whist doing so yourself whilst adding sweet f all to the topic being discussed. Oh, the Irony!

Many probably won't reach that age, especially if they hate their jobs.
Ours is predicted to rise to 68 no earlier than 2037.
I think most will.
Unless they start killing them off when they get sick.
My point is that most western countries are broken by policies that are not financially responsible.
And the minute you try to address the problem you get accused of trying to starve grandma..
The problem with keeping people in work till old age...they are denying the younger generations the chance to get the jobs the oldies are forced to hang onto.
Compared to other countries, state pensions paid out in the UK is pretty meagre....so grandma is probably starving anyway.

Then you need more jobs.
Most western countries need more younger people working to support the older people. That's why they keep pushing the retirement age out..

I think that's the point.
Off the top of my head I believe the original pension schemes were based on the expectation that most people would die within 6-8 years of retirement. That's clearly changed over time and our current schemes are no longer supportable.
The state pension will be a nice bonus but I'm not counting on it for retirement.

I doubt it'll be around in a couple of decades time, not unless something drastic changes.
The state pension is the largest benefit that's paid out, but unlike in the past, so many people now claim various benefits long before they retire...so it's inevitable the pot will run dry if more people are claiming than contributing.
Many of the older pensioners now....who incidentally get a far lower pension than younger ones, contributed for 50 plus years, they didn't receive the help many working families recieve today, and there were certainly not the kind of handouts unemployed people can recieve nowadays.

There's nothing wrong with talking to people who think differently politically Madders but if you are suggesting I infer incorrectly in discourse I am well aware the ladies on here and Barksdale are more knowledgeable than myself. Incidentally Peterson is not half as intelligent as he attempts to convey. This is all too apparent when Stephen Fry challenges him.

It's all swings and roundabouts though.Older people didn't used to have to pay to attend university ,they didn't have to pay tuition fees. The very premise sounds wonderful but unthinkable to me! Student loans now take decades to pay off. As for pensions my brother is 35 and residing in.Cardiff and can't get a decent job after obtaining a Masters degree. He sells insurance and with all his outgoings he can't even think of start saving for a pension, even though the employer matches what you save I believe.
Since the arrival of Brexit and due to the aftermath of Covid younger people, a whole generation basically have had their education completely disrupted. Most can forget owning their own homes even if fully employed, which used to be enough for many couples back in the day.
I don't like calling benefits hand outs personally. I know you mean no offence Syl but if people have worked and contributed in their lives they are not accepting "handouts" if they cannot work for a while.
I admit a lot of British youngsters do seem to be out of work or not pursuing academia. They also have trouble maintaining relationships hence the Manosphere and all the toxic nonsense that has resulted from that. There must be a reason Gen Z seem less self sufficient, maybe their parents molly coddled them but I think their lack of social skills originates from staying indoors playing on the computer or scrolling social media instead of going out and playing with friends and later on getting a summer job. They just lack experience and that seems to hinder their motivation to try and make their own way in the world.

A lot of older people couldn't afford to go to university, they had to leave education and work full time.
There was no bank of mam and dad to support them, like has been with my child and grandkids...and millions of other youngster who stay in education till their mid 20's.
My grandson is paying off a student loan, and I know it's harder than ever to get on the housing ladder, and I also know students who obtained their masters and have had trouble finding suitable jobs.
When people have worked and then find themselves unemployed, of course they should get benefits until they get back on their feet, they are not to be confused with the professionally unemployed, the ones who have no intention of working, or the ones who earn the bare minimum so their benefits won't be affected...or as I said, their handouts.
I think various reasons make today's youngsters less capable than previous generations. Life is far easier in many ways, discipline is almost none existant, poverty is nothing like it was back in my day, and I agree, the Internet has stunted social skills.
But like you say, it's swings and roundabouts. Some things are better...some worse.
