/\ Of course it's nasty, and kicking the rear light of an officers car is equally stupid, he should have been arrested there and then.
But he wasn't....and footage of the day he was shot, doesn't show him doing anything illegal.
Not illegal enough to warrant being shot.
Does the law in the UK require you to yield to law enforcement when they are driving down the road?

I'm not sure where I posted the guys firing weapons off the bridge in Dallas on NYE.
Anyway, they arrested 3 guys.
One posted bail and is out. Two of them are on immigration holds. Because this is Texas and not Minnesota, they will be turned over to the federal authorities.
In Minnesota all 3 would be released if they could post bail as Minnesota is a sanctuary state..They don't turn over illegal immigrants that they catch.

Yes, and if you don't comply then you can be arrested.
You know what isn't allowed? Being killed in the process. Alex Pretti's life was taken by the State whilst exercising his right to protest. Whether it was manslaughter or murder will depend on mitigating factors (such as his own behaviour.) Everything else is just a distraction.
Personally, I think it is never justified for the State to take the life of a person. I think it is extremely dangerous for the group (the State) to have such power over the individual. It is why I oppose the death penalty.
I've seen the discussion online about this incident and it is frankly hopeless. The loud, the stupid, those lacking moral clarity dominate the conversation and it seems all they care about is winning a point for their "team."
If there was ever a time to know what you truly believe to help a person navigate the maelstrom of idiocy and danger we see before us it is now.

There was that footage of some silly cow who blew her own fingers off with a flashbang grenade she picked up to chuck at ICE officers. Then there is the woman who bit off an ICE officers finger. The world's gone mad. Nobody is going to convince me that this is peaceful demonstrating. Everyone has the right to demonstrate peacefully not like this.

But I'm glad you agree people should be arrested..
Where is the Minneapolis PD when this is going on?
ICE and BP really aren't the people we have for crowd control. The people we have for that role are AWOL. It's breaking down there because of that..

You have peaceful protesters, but there is also a counter insurgency of highly vetted combatants who are not protesting but obstructing. The Feds are getting phones now and I'm sure their forensic teams are working them over..
The Signal App is supposed to be secure and encrypted. Guess we will see.
Federal Air Marshall's chased out of a restaurant because people thought they were ICE..
I'm glad I live in a red state..It's not perfect but it's definitely better than California or Minnesota.

It's not happenstance that he was involved with multiple altercations out in the street with federal agents.
They are staged and ready and when the Feds roll, they intercept. They block vehicles, scream and spit.

There is no suggestion that he either screamed or spit the day he was shot. If one of the agents remembered him from 11 days before, it hardly warranted them lining up to execute him.
I find it odd that people seem to be looking for reasons why they shot him.

They are looking for reasons as to why he was in a position to be shot..
Him being a.member of an organized group designed to obstruct and disrupt is relevant.

It's a bit like asking why a woman was in a position to be raped....was her skirt too short? did she walk alone at night?
Actually the rapist is 100% to blame just like the shooters were 100% to blame for the man now lying on a slab.

No it's not.
It's like asking why affiliates of rape gangs could die in an altercation with the cops.

If Petty belonged to a terrorist group, armed and dangerous, I could see that people may be looking for valid reason why he should be shot dead that day. Even then, he was pepper sprayed, overpowered, disarmed, and was still shot 10 times by more than one agent.
As it is, he was part of a demonstration that seemed to be more of a nuisance than a threat to anyone.
As far as I know, directing traffic, and previously spitting and kicking a vehicle (which happened 11 days prior) is not a justified reason to execute someone in the US.

When you watch the footage in slow motion, and broken down second by second this is what happens.
The police wrestle Pretti to the ground. It takes four or five of them to restrain him, then someone notices his gun and shouts he's got a gun! several times. One of the agents pulls Petti's gun off him and walks away with it. The agent who fired the first shot had his back to the whole scenario while this was going on and only turns when someone shouts out he's got a gun. That's when he fires at Pretti. In the panic and melee another officer shoots perhaps believing Pretti was shooting because none of them realised Pretti's gun had been removed. You then hear one of them saying, Where's the fucking gun? The agent who took the gun and ran off with it says "I've got the gun". Another one asks, "You've got the gun?" So it's clear that not all the agents knew the gun had been taken and Pretti disarmed.
It unfolds in literally seconds, and this is what happens when there are guns involved and split second decisions are made in panic and fear. Everyone in that situation feared for their lives. And in spite of the fact that these armed officers are trained etc, there are always permutations that take things off track. Remember that police officer who got stabbed in the back of the neck by a migrant after he restrained the man who tried to restrain the knife wielding migrant? He hadn't seen the full picture in the panic of the moment and paid for it with his life.
You can't discount human error/emotion/lack of attention/distraction in life or death situations.

The minute before he was shot, he had a phone in one hand, the other hand held nothing. He seemed to be recording an agent who was pushing him backwards. He walked backwards, showing no aggression. A minute later a female demonstrator right near him is pushed to the ground, he bent over to help her up, that's when the agents pepper sprayed him and wrestled him to the ground.
No agent had any need to pile on him, pepper spray him, and shoot him. He was not aggressive, in fact seconds before he was shot he seemed to hold his free hand up, either to protect himself from spray or to show he was submissive.
