So hopefully it is something that can eventually be eradicated.
I don't share your optimism, it seems to be a behaviour ingrained in the human psyche. By viewing another person or group of people as inferior, it gives one a sense of superiority. It's a form of projection where one's own deficiencies are seen in someone else.
It's behind much of the animosity we see every day, and more seriously leads to wars, genocide and 'ethnic cleansing' when it manifests at a collective level.
If you're interested in psychology, Carl Jung had a lot to say about it (he referred to it as the Shadow).
Thankyou Guest! I know about this concept, how people refuse to accept their negative side and it affects their behaviour ?
Anyway I am very interested and it's been a long time ago that I read about it (hence my recollection is probably totally wrong!) so I shall definitely take a look x

The displaced are returning, but to what? No homes, no businesses, some to no family.
If it's your child, parent, sibling, that is injured, starved or dead, I dont think it matters whether it was 80 years ago in Auschwitz or last week in Gaza....the pain is still the same.
I find some of the comments in this thread regarding the Palestinians, heartless to be honest.
There's suffering on both sides, and history tells us that time and again the Israeli's tried for peace or some compromise.
Israel withdrew settlers and military forces from the Gaza Strip in 2005 in an effort to adhere to the peace plan put in place by the Quartet, an informal group created to pursue Middle East peace comprising the United States, Russia, the United Nations, and the European Union.
The Israeli military remained in control of Gaza’s borders (except the Gaza-Egypt border, which is controlled by Egypt), airspace, and coastline. After Israel’s withdrawal, Hamas and other smaller militant groups fired rockets from Gaza into southern Israel. What does anyone really expect Israel to do?
There's only one way to overthrow a regime as vile as Hamas. Fight it. Just like everyone had to fight the Nazi's.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back more than a century, with flashpoints building from the United Nations’ 1947 initial UN Partition Plan to the 1973 Yom Kippur War, to the recent Israel-Hamas war sparked in October 2023. Despite continued efforts at brokering peace—including the 1979 Camp David Accords, the Oslo Accords of the 1990s, and the 2020 Abraham Accords—conflict has persisted.
So, it's not so much being heartless as being in possession of the facts. Yes, it's awful all those people have died but you have to focus on why. The real hate lies with the fundamentalist Arabs. I think both Israel and the Palestinians really want peace but the fanatics won't let that happen. They will not ever rest until every single Jew is slaughtered. And that's the reality of it. Even here in the UK we have imams calling for their destruction. Not content with a peace treaty our moronic homegrown flag waving protestors are still screeching for Israel's obliteration like the brainless useful idiots they are.
At the very least, they could adhere to the cease fire Israel might well have wanted peace in.the past but due to Netanyahu that is not the case now. He wants to kill as many Palestinians as he can.And the western media seemingly assist the Israeli military in their bloodthirsty conquest. The narrative is indeed one sided as you suggested previously but in favour of Israel.
SINCE the ceasefire has taken effect Israel tanks fired at Palestinian people in the town of Bani Suhalia and abducted 15 citizens. Any media coverage in the West? No. Yet look at all the coverage concerning the hostages taken by Hamas.
Israel is in possession of hundreds of Palestinian bodies which are used as bargaining chips, again not reported in the media. Approximately 1700 Palestine people were kidnapped from their families for no apparent reason including children , and these hostages were abused and tortured. Only one autistic teenager was released causing a huge media spectacle as if they somehow made up for all the abused hostages Israel have kept ,whilst demanding Hamas release all THEIR hostages.
Israel are still blocking aid despite that being one of the terms of the ceasefire . They denied Oxfam access into Gaza to deliver aid including vital food and hygiene items as Chris Doyce, I assume from Oxfam reported on social media.
Israel may well have tried to maintain peace in the past And should be commended for that. But the Israeli military scorched earth approach ,deliberate target of schools and hospitals, blocking aid was killing innocent Palestinian civilians who were being controlled and repressed by Hamas. Israel had more chance of blowing up the hostages they claimed to seek than discovering them alive.
But under Netanyahu's rule Israel have showed they will never seek peace. Palestinian citizens are still being abducted, killed, denied aid and the hundreds of tortured hostages remain unreleased. If Hamas did this the whole world would be baying for blood. But since the cease fire the western media has chose to keep the public ignorant of all of the above. It is reported in content I watch whose broadcasters seek out the truth reported on Al Jazeera etc, but most of the public just trust that Israel are adhering to the ceasefire and with the tacit approval of the West they are not.

We killed about 100,000 people, in one night of fire bombing Tokyo. Based on today's "standards" we were committed genocide on Japan for their attack on Pearl Harbor..
I doubt the 20 thousand children included Hamas fighters.
Call it what you want....they are still dead.

"A woman is alleged to have been raped on Brighton beach by three asylum seekers.
Police received a report that a 33-year-old woman had been attacked on the lower esplanade in Brighton at around 5am on October 4.
Three men – Abdulla Ahmadi, 25, an Iranian national from Crewe, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, both Eqyptian nationals from Horsham – were arrested and each charged with two counts of rape.
All three men arrived in the UK via small boats and had had pending decisions on asylum claims, the Home Office has confirmed.
At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Mr Al-Danasurt and Mr Alshafe gave their address as an asylum hotel in a village near Horsham.
The court heard Al-Danasurt is being investigated for suspected immigration offences. He confirmed his name and date of birth through an Arabic interpreter and was remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court next month.
Failed asylum seeker Alshafe confirmed his name and date of birth through an Arabic interpreter and was also remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court next month.
Failed asylum seeker Ahmadi appeared in a separate hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court. He confirmed his name and date of birth through a Kurdish interpreter and was remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court next month."
Syl, this is a horrible disgusting act by these three individuals and I hope they spend many years locked up not seeing sunlight.
But your opening statement suggests that ALL asylum seeking men are rapists (hence your use of the words "reverted to type")
This simply isn't fair OR accurate. Not ALL middle eastern men are rapists. Or do you mean just the ones seeking asylum? Think of the considerable amount of male refugees arriving in small boats every day. Very few have committed rape.
It is a sickening act they have committed and of course it must have been a horrible ordeal for the victim. But not all Muslim men are rapists or animals. Some are decent family men. I dislike their religion because it promotes repression of women but it just isn't fair to label ALL Muslim men (or asylum seekers, I cannot be sure) as rapists.
It does seem.like this thread only accepts news detailing crimes committed by immigrants when it used to be so much more.
Firstly, I have said repeatedly on this forum,( though it's pretty obvious without even saying it once) of course not ALL Muslim men are rapists.
Not ALL men who arrive here in small boats want to harm the people who are giving them refuge....but there are enough who do, and they are the ones who are making the news.
Of course, the ones who are committing these crimes are 'reverting to type'. Do you think they were fine, upstanding men in their own counties? Countries that treat women like dirt incidentally....so apart from what other crimes they are running away from (could be anything, many destroy their papers before they get here) their mindset is that women are not worthy of respect....and that's how they act when they get here.
The title of the thread 'Is Britain broken', can include many different reasons why we think it is. Unfortunately, one of the reasons it is, has all to do with illegal immigrants, which includes the way some act when they are here, and the priority they are given over many law-abiding people who were bred and born here, or arrivals who have contributed to this country for decades.
I do understand what you mean. And I hope the brave victim.gets justice like every other woman r*ped or sexually assaulted by men in this country. But less than 10% if rape cases are even brought to trial, as it's either someone the victim knows and is he said \she said or reliving the trauma is too much for the victim, who feels in the dock themselves. The victim is questioned about how many sexual partners she has had and whether she was wearing clothes that "asked for it".
At least this case will result in a conviction that hopefully brings some peace of mind to the victim.

I doubt she will ever have peace of mind again.
Rape is one of the most horrible of crimes, to be raped by three men, I just can't imagine the terror and the humiliation she went through, plus God knows what she is left with when they had finished with her.
So few women report rape because of the way they are treated, sometimes by the police, and GMP had a really bad record of making rape victims feel worthless, hopefully it's improved, they say it has.

Most right-minded people will find it abhorrent. But it does bring into question the concept of Utilitarianism, which is often used as an ethical argument for war. In other words you have to forget the moral rights or wrongs of the action, and base your decision on whether it will result in the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Put simply - will the end justify the means?
^ There was an interesting article in the Sunday Times recently about how HR Depts (human resources) have taken over businesses and how they interfere with work being done. They gave an example just as mental as the one above.
This bloke worked for Lloyds Bank and had to participate in an online training course called 'Race Education' which came about in the wake of the ghastly BLM movement. He asked the question 'how do you manage two workers from the same ethnic group who use language that would be considered offensive by someone outside of that group'? A very reasonable question imo considering the course he was on.
The online coach looked at him blankly and didn't seem to understand the question. So he gave the example of two black people calling each other the n word. The coach starts screaming and shouting at him telling him how offensive it is, even though he was using it as an example on a race training course and not in an real life situation.
Lloyds Bank HR launched a 6 month investigation (LoL), and eventually he was fired for gross misconduct. He fought the case and won £473,000 compensation - good for him!
If I meet someone in a social setting and they tell me they work in HR, I try to escape their company asap, as it's one of those jobs that you just know what type of person they are before they say anything else.

In this case, I think the answer is no.
