Mastermind David Lammy has put forward a proposal to end trial by jury except in very serious cases like murder and rape. Trial by jury goes back over 800 years, but Lammy, the man who thought Henry 8th was born before Henry 7th, and that a man can grow a cervix, wants to end it.
Having an individual judge decide on guilt rather than 12 members of the public, will lead to far more miscarriages of justice, with the guilty going free and the innocent sent to jail.
Will we see yet another Starmer U-turn, as he has previously been all for trial by jury, and has said this: “The right to trial by jury is an important factor in the delicate balance between the power of the state and the freedom of the individual"
The state of him - he has the vacant look of a cocker spaniel waiting for his owner to throw him a stick, rather than the head of the judiciary.
Cocker Spaniel made me laugh.
I don't agree with no juries. Our judges are woke, under Starmer now. Could see anyone prison for saying about muslims!I

Oh don't worry Syl, she will. We don't count as people anymore, just a nuscience.
She has generously allowed people over 65 to keep their 20 grand ISA yearly top up.
Now I don't know about you, but I don't know any OAP'S who have a spare 20 grand a year to top up existing savings.
“ France has agreed to start intercepting small boats in the Channel, following months of pressure from the UK.
The change in policy comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote to President Emmanuel Macron urging him to back the plan and saying we currently "have no effective deterrent" in the Channel, according to a report in Le Monde, external.
French security forces will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they've picked up their passengers, the maritime police force has confirmed to the BBC.
French police have rarely intervened to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered too great a risk to both officers and civilians.
Le Monde reported Sir Keir's letter as reading: "It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel."
FFS, Why the hell did the Govt pay the French millions of £££ if they thought it was “too great a risk”.

Exactly!

“Months of pressure”. For the love of God in that time thousands have been let in.
if I pay for a service of any kind and that service is not forthcoming or shoddy at best I can demand a refund or repair…this Govt hands out millions, gets nothing in return and takes MONTHS to think about ”urging” the French to keep their side of the contract…not one, two or even six boats but months of them.
considering they were waiting to get in power you’d think they’d have had firm plans ready to put in place. But no, they woke up bleary eyed one morning and thought “hmm…”.
the lot of them.

"Asylum seekers to be banned from using taxis for medical appointments"
How the heck as this even been allowed to happen? Of course Labour are blaming the Tories - which is their answer to everything, but they have been in long enough now to have stopped this ages ago. Some of the taxi rides have been for several hundred miles - all paid for by the taxpayer!
The Home Secretary has come up with an ingenious alternative - "the government is now working to help introduce alternatives such as public transport"
LoL they are 'working' on a plan to get these parasites to jump on a bus or train for their free medical treatment - must have taken ages to come up with that idea!
Meanwhile, more pressure on Reeves to resign after lying about the budget forecast and also breaking manifesto promises.
Just seen her trying to squirm her way out of it on TV - she's still hiding behind the 'child poverty' excuse
I feel nauseous just seeing her face and hearing her robot voice.

Trevor Phillips is running rings around her - if it were a boxing match it would have been stopped after about 10 seconds or round one!
"When Trevor asks why a woman with two children should pay to support the children of another woman who has more than two, Reeves again speaks about wanting to reduce child poverty."
She is really milking it now and banging on about children waking up in cold damp bedrooms.
"He points to polling that shows only 37% of Labour voters back the cap being lifted - but more than 80% of Labour members do, and puts the case to Reeves that she is just appeasing her own party.
Again, Reeves makes the argument the decision is about lifting children out of poverty."

"The government has confirmed it has spent an average of around £15.8 million per year on transport for asylum seekers".
Some asylum seekers will still be ferried around in taxis for free. Pregnant women for eg. I don't know of any pregnant Brit who has ever been entitled to free taxi rides to get to their ante natal appointments.
It's shameful that these things only come to light when they are independently investigated.

I posted a while back about many disabled having to miss hospital appointments due to no ambulances etc being available which has led many having to cancel appointments due to not being able to find alternative transport/unable to travel on public transport or being able to afford taxi fares and yet here are hearing taxis being laid on for “asylum seekers”. Makes my blood boil.
God help you if you’re a disabled British OAP, you’ve got no chance.

It's disgusting, and abuse of our money. Why are invaders treated like special people when our own people are treated like rubbish.
No warm hotel for our homeless at Christmas, but hey don't worry, the invaders will be nice and warm and fed warm meals.
They also have a prayer room in place in these hotels!
Labour has destroyed Britain!

Even when most taxis are stopped - if that does happen - they will be given free travel cards to get to their free medical treatement, where they will queue jump native Brits, who have paid to get there and have been waiting longer for an appointment.

So right Red, we don't know the half!
Do you know they have prayer rooms organised for them.
I'm sick and tired of it all. I do think Starmer is allowing them in, to take over or for votes.
My favorite American liberal speaking truth to a clueless American liberal about the UK.
Yep, he is right. I find it amazing that people in the US are not aware of what's been going on here for decades, so that another American has to educate them

I think that's true, maybe not so much in Europe.
I find it surprising that more than half of Americans don't own a passport.

You don't need a passport to know things, and traveling somewhere for a week doesn't make you informed about an area.
I'm sure Patton Oswald has traveled abroad.
I think people tend to focus on what impacts them. That's why the US is better known abroad, than other countries are known about here.
