Thanks for reminding us Vita, one year ago today, an atrocity that has spiralled so much and caused so many deaths since.

These people marching and waving Palestine flags seem to have forgotten that happened.
They make me sick.

I'm watching the film 'Till' about Emmett Till.
Young black boy who was lynched in Mississippi.
It's very upsetting.
Even the sheriff is saying n****r

That was a turning point in the US..
Unfortunately it took that boy being tortured and beat to death to "turn" us in many parts of the country..

I have just watched Till, incredibly moving. A tragic true life, fairly recent event, I was actually alive when that was happening.
There was a story, and photos on here a while ago about the woman and her husband who lied about what happened.
Thank God things like this didn't happen here.
Though I do remember seeing a notice in a boarding house window...'No Backs, no Irish, no dogs'.
Unbelievable.

Only fourteen years old, tortured to death for whistling at a white woman.
The photos of him after his death are horrendous.

Very difficult to watch Syl.
The scenes of his mum seeing his coffin for the first time, the viewing of him at the funeral.
Just terrible.

It will soon be Halloween...
Did you know the name 'Halloween ' comes from a Scottish shortening of 'All Hallows' Eve?
Six Scottish traditions you may also have elsewhere.
1...Neep Lanterns, instead of pumpkins you use a turnip
2...Apple Dookin, you put Apple's in a big basin filled with water and you have to get one out with your teeth.
3...Treacle scones, make an enormous scone, cover it in treacle, hang it from a rope and you've got to bite bits aff it. No using yer hands, that's cheating)
4...Nut burning. A couple throw nuts on a bonfire and if there's no sound their union will be a happy one but it there's cracking, they're doomed!!
5...Guising. Or dressing up was originally done so Scottish children would blend in with wandering spirits and not come too harm.
6...Kale pulling. You pull a kale stock out of the ground with your eyes closed and the length and shape of the stalk would represent your future partners shape and height.

I remember apple dunking, it was a Christmas or birthday game. Didn't do Halloween when I was young, it became more popular when mine were at school. It's more an American theme.

I can mind when I was at school our costumes were made by our parents but nowadays they cost a fortune out the shops.
Big business these days.

People generally were a lot poorer generations ago, poverty then, was not what poverty is classed as now.
Home made costumes were the norm, lots of tea towels were used for nativity plays.
I remember our school leavers did Midsummer Nights Dream....I was Lysander (it was a girls school) I had to wear green tights, no idea where my mum found them, but she did.
I have an old school photo of the 'cast' somewhere, I will dig it out when I can and post it.

That was the only school play I was ever in, I played an Angel when I was at Primary school and I was in the Wizard of oz when I was in the Brownies.
Shame but I have no group photos of my time at school.
It will be nice to see your photo Syl.

Found it...It's very blurred Vita, that's me on the end right with chin resting on hand, I was 15.
Pity it's not in colour, my green tights looked quite magnificent.

Haha..that's funny, because when grandson no2 saw it, he also pointed me out straight away. He said all he had to do was look for grandson No1's face....because he is the image of me.

I tried colourising it for you using this site, https://imagecolorizer.com/undefined/colorize , but i can't post pictures on here. You can try it though, although the colours don't come out that great because of the quality of the photo.
