As for 'behind closed doors', God knows what 'deal' those two have cooked up between them when they discussed Ukraine without the Ukraine president being allowed in to speak.
No one is obligated to accept any deal cooked up by Trump. If others want to end the war differently, they can make their own deal..

Maybe Trump and Putin have already decided what deal will be made.
Trump isn't a peacemaker as he is trying to portray himself, he is a businessman, and by all accounts, a corrupt one.

No one has to accept their plan. It doesn't matter what they have decided. Sorta like Gaza.. If folks want to fight until one side surrenders, there really isn't anyone stopping them..
There are plenty of taxpayers in other countries capable of funding Ukraines war..

Taxpayers in other countries do contribute.
Trump has been pulled up twice this week, one by the French PM and once by Starmer. He keeps insisting that America is the only country to give, the rest loan...he is a liar.
I wonder, if Trump had been president in the late 1930's, would he have been wheeler dealing with Hitler....I reckon he would.

Then there is no need for US taxpayers or American diplomacy. India can handle it..😉
And we were pretty chummy with Germany before WW2 because they opposed the commies.
Then we became allies with Stalin, who oddly enough killed millions of Ukrainians. They actually welcomed the Nazis in Ukraine because they thought would be an improvement over Stalin. Turns out it was mostly a tie

Good. Despotic bullies should know there is consequence for their actions. Hopefully more will follow.
"Donald Trump’s heated clash with Volodymyr Zelensky at the Oval Office has led to the US army losing a fuel supplier - and has sparked division within his own party.
An ugly confrontation between the United States president and the Ukraine leader was broadcast around the world last Friday where Trump claimed Zelensky was being “disrespectful” and “gambling with WW3”. It resulted in Ukraine’s president being kicked out of the White House, and a deal to exchange mineral rights for further US military support was placed on ice.
And now petrol giant Haltbakk Bunkers said it would no longer sell fuel to US forces in Norway following the way Zelensky was treated as it declared: “No fuel to Americans.” The Norwegian firm posted on social media: “"We have today been witnesses to the biggest s***how ever presented "live on tv" by the current American president and his vice president."

Our 4 soldiers in Norway will have to ride into battle on horseback..

Can anyone in the know more than I (everyone who posts I would assume!) explain why Trump is all chummy with Putin in the first place? He wants to make Gaza into a golden casino with statues of himself universally adored so he won't be happy with the EU countries promising to stick by the Ukraine come what may at the Ukraine sumitt in London today. I think Starmer has done well by bringing all the leaders together and seemed self assured on the world stage. As a result our potential trade deal with the USA is looking a tad wobbly..

I guess despotic megalomaniacs are drawn to each other. I'm sure Trump is not happy with the way the UK and most other European countries found his latest show despicable.
One good thing is, after Brexit, when the UK seemed to be distanced from the EU, those bonds seem to be strengthening again lately.

I was so happy when Trump got in, he did some good things for America.
Then he changed.
Wanting another Vegas in Gaza with a giant statue of him, reminiscent of Saddam Hussein!
The debacle around Zelensky was shameful. Insulting, bullying, and downright appalling treatment to The President of another country.
My opinion of him has changed completely now.
He only wants the minerals in Ukraine..

Trump doesn't like Zelensky. He's also not fond of how we pay the bulk of the cost for NATO.
People say Trump likes Putin because they operate in a binary world. If you don't support Ukraine 100% you are labled a Putin supporter..
Remember, Hunter Biden worked for a Ukrainian oil company..Trump asked Zelensky for a "favor". That whole conversation led to Trumps impeachment hearings..

I think a lot of people have changed their opinion of him.
As for Vance, the bullet maker, he has already said in the past "I don't really care what happens to Ukraine, one way or the other". So he was happy to start the row off between Trump and Zelenskyy.

He wants something of value for all of the money the American taxpayer forked over to Ukraine.
I'll admit he's a vicious negotiator and always asks the question " how does this effect America and what's the point of us funding this project?"
But this isn't entirely new. When the UK entered WW2, we didn't give you aid. We exchanged destroyers for territory..Then we started the Lend Lease act..The UK had to repay the US for those weapons..
What Trump is asking isn't much different than what Roosevelt did..

The mineral thing makes sense though in terms of it being a deterrent in that America will have a vested interest in Ukraine.

It would stop Putin, and Ukraine needs America. I don't think America can take all the minerals though.

The US would get half if the revenue from future mineral extraction. Current mines and wells are not included..
