Seems there's a definite link between deficiency in Vit. D and dying of COVID. Which explains why so many ethnic people are dying of it.
That's why my mantra from the get go has been go outside and play.
Folks with more melanin produce less vitamin D and need to be outside more. Same as pasty people who wear heavy SPF blockers.
Of course skin cancer is real too.
Hi Maddog!
I totally agree with you. I'm a bit "pasty" myself, so I tend not to sit in the sun much, and I use SPF. In the UK we have heatwaves every year these days, but that just makes a lot of people stay in the shade or stay in.
When I was young there was a big thing about using sunscreen and the advice was to put it on before you go outside in the sun. Now, the advice seems to be that you should get some rays on your skin for at least a while before you put sunscreen on in order to get some Vitamin D.
People with dark skin should be particularly careful that they get enough Vitamin D for the reason you gave.
Hola. Hadn't seen you in a million years.

For anyone who is interested the November edition of National Geographic is devoted to COVID-19 and I am currently reading through all the excellent articles.
Hi Syl! Just thought I'd drop in. Hope you're well.
Hey, you...hope you're keeping safe.
I think the Vit D thing is very relevant, and would explain why BAME people seem to suffer more from Covid.
Hi Digger!
Yes, I've always thought the Vitamin D thing was one of the key reasons. So many people are deficient and they don't know.

I rarely sit in the sun. I get too hot. Not too bad on holiday when you can take a dip in the sea. I'm taking cod liver oil at the mo. Apparently, it's very high in VD. And duck eggs have six times the amount of Vit D than hen's eggs

As I predicted in another thread well over 200 deaths today in the UK, until an effective vaccine is found this is the world we live in now and it's only going to get worse - a long, hard winter ahead folks.

Yes, and Manchester is now about to go into tier 3......many places will have to close, no household may mix with any other, people strongly advised not to travel outside of their area....groundhog day, and it'll be coming to a place near you soon too.
Andy Burnham has done a brilliant job in trying to get a fair deal for the low paid and self employed in greater Manchester, he didn't succeed, but full marks for trying.

I guess it has to be done if we are to see some semblance of normality for Christmas.

Definitely, I don't think anyone was arguing against being put into Tier three....the arguments were about the help people would be getting if they cant work now the furlough scheme is ending.
Normality for Christmas?? I think that's being overly optimistic, I can see any kind of normality arriving for some considerable time.

This virus is a runaway train of consequences. And dire consequences. No matter what path you take to try and slow it down. Consequences will come your way in one shape or form sooner or later.
Yep good effective vaccine only real hope of real normality again.
