Minus three and my dog has diarrhoea. Yep, all nice and frozen on the driveway this morning! And the hose is frozen up too so a bucket of bleach and a broom it is.
I took Daisy for a stroll earlier in the week, she had a big drink on her return and raced through to sit on the couch, so she could look out the window.
I rubbed her head on my way by and she barfed all down my jacket and trousers.
The joys of owning a dog!!

Why are you bothered by black people in adverts? What harm is it doing you?
Reverse racism is still racism.
I don't believe in the BBC quota system either.
People should get jobs/parts on merit - not the colour of their skin or their sexuality to tick a 'diversity' box.
Phil.
What reverse racism? I'm not getting you. You're sounding angry about nothing just dragging imaginary quotas in to justify not wanting to see non-whites on your screen

When I let our dog out the garden last thing before bed at the moment, I tell him to make sure he has a wee because I sure as hell ain't getting up in the middle of the night!

I was trying to get a refund on Amazon but I kept being told I needed to return the item.
Despite countless attempts at explaining the reason I wanted a refund was because the item hadn't arrived.

I also have swollen knuckles on both hands which have gone a funny purple colour.
Bad Eczema on my hands as well but I can't put on my cotton gloves after soaking them in my cream because the gloves won't go over my knuckles!!

Seconded.
I was going to suggest using those thin plastic type gloves that you can buy in bulk Vita, but they may not help the eczema.

Hi Mags!
Christmas adverts annoy the hell out of me - everyone has a massive opulent house, huge tables groaning with highly expensive food and all grin and guffaw at each other as if they have taken bloody laughing gas.
Phil.

This is in Reading several miles from where I now live in Sonning.
It makes my fucking blood boil.
Just how many homeless or vulnerable British people below the poverty line would like to live for free in a luxury hotel with guards?
People are freezing to death on the streets but who cares about them?
Sickening.

It seems the government took over the George Hotel in Reading to house Afghan refugees.
People who had booked there apparently had to find alternative accommodation as early as last Summer.
I don't know about Reading, but Manchester does offer 'A bed every night', for homeless of all nationalities.
Granted, it's more basic than the hotels that are being used for the Afghan refugees.

There is a slight difference between an actual refugee and a native born Brit who is not a child, disabled or elderly. A native born Brit speaks the language, was given an education up to an adult age, and provided opportunities a thousand fold more than some illiterate refugee from a mud hut.
Natural born Brits, have already been provided with things from their government and should have used those to handle their own affairs.
How well could any of us function in a country where we have no money, can't speak the language and have the reading skills of an 8 year old?.
That's not to say governments don't coddle immigrants, and yours is sort of worse than many others, but I'm an asshole and feel that adults born in western countries have been given all of the tools necessary to be productive and self sufficient..

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my daughter over 20 years ago. She noticed that my mother seemed to "help" my nephews more than her. My mother loved hanging out with my daughters but you could tell she invested more time and money into my nephews.
My sister was a single mom, who struggled as one. She had shitty relationships with several men and had a deadbeat ex.
My kids had advantages based on the fact that their parents could invest more time and money into them. We weren't wealthy, but better off than my sister.
I had to tell my daughter that she had advantages that her two cousins didn't have, and sometimes other family members have to step up to help those that don't have those advantages..
Oddly enough, my daughter understood and accepted this. My wife/their mother, didn't.

Fortunately the swelling has gone down a bit so I'm able to put my gloves on soaked in cream.
My mum thinks the knuckle problem might be chilblains.
My Granda had great ointment for that, got it when he went home to Ireland but our stash as ran out.

I agree in theory, but...not all refugees who are here are illiterate and previously lived in mud huts.
We have loads of economic refugees, between one and two million illegals, and people who see the UK as an easy ticket....they have left a safe country, travelled through other safe countries, and land here... we keep what others don't want.
There are many people who were born and bred here who need help. They may speak the language, but that's no consolation if you are living on the breadline, in a mould filled home, no heating, no food, trying to bring kids up on benefits.
Not everyone has a family to help them when times are hard.

Well, the problem is your definition of refugee..
We take refugees. We also fly and bus tens of thousands of immigrants back to their home country because they are not real refugees.
I have a lot of Hispanic friends. Some born in Mexico, some the children of immigrants.
They tend to roll their eyes when they hear Americans who are multiple generations removed from another country, start to whine about how hard it is. We are privileged beyond belief here, when compared to most of the world. The system works. Get an education, go to work, and be of value to society and you will be OK. Wealthy? Probably not. But able to support yourself?Absolutely..

Not everyone has the background, or the brain, the capabilities, the luck, the education...any number of things, to look after themselves.
I can get as pissed off with the best of them if people don't try to help themselves, but sometimes circumstances get in the way.
My mum was left with 2 young kids to look after back in the 50's. There were no benefits to speak of, my waste of space, quite well respected father got away with paying a pittance in alimony, there was no one to fight her corner.
She took on cleaning jobs to bring me and my sister up...sometimes three at a time. She never asked a soul for a penny....did it all herself.
I don't see that commitment nowadays, but in one way it's even harder. I doubt three cleaning jobs, the hours fitted around 2 young school children, could feed, clothe and bring up kids today, and still give those kids a happy contented childhood.
There are hundreds of thousands more women trying to bring up kids single-handedly nowadays.
How would your sister have managed without your mums help?

My sister would have been fine. What my mom did was try to level the playing field a little for my nephews.
There have always been people who will help others when they need it. I'd like to think they are still the majority. Although I do see tendency now to insist that it's the governments roll to do all the help.
And in you mothers case, and my sister, there were kids involved. Again, I make exceptions for children, the disabled and the elderly because they can't help who or what they are..

Families usually helped out, sadly, family values have changed over the last 2 or 3 decades, and whereas once they would offer support, people now expect the governments to step in instead.
I should think the majority of people either have children or have gotten older, so really, your exceptions include the majority.
