I agree, they were all great. Roy Orbison had a really unique voice. This song is unusual because it has no chorus, it just builds up to a crescendo at the end.

I have seen these three on quite a few vids, singing covers from songs in the past.

Running Scared gives me goose bumps. Such emotion. Roy had a brilliant voice, could reach any note.

I have seen him perform that song loads of different times on various TV programmes, always live, right until a month before he passed away...and he never, ever misses a note.
He really was a remarkable performer.

Another Texan with a good voice (Roy was from Wink, TX).
Jim ushered in the countrypolitan sound which was country's first foray into pop music. They actually had orchestras playing backup..

Jim died in a plane crash (a year after Patsy) but the sound was already established for folks like Ray Price, another Texan. Singing a song written by another Texan, Kris Kristopherson.

No doubt, Texas delivered some great singers.

Probably even more songwriters. Willie and Kris were never going to win a singing contest.
Songwriter and they are up there with anyone..

Here's a good example. Kris is singing his song. Most people are going to say Ray sings much better, but I enjoy Kris too. I look towards lyrics before vocal ability and like to listen to the creator of the lyrics, in most cases..

If you ask Dolly, no one can sing that song like Whitney.
But if you ask me who means it more, who feels it more, I'm going with the girl who meant it when she wrote it..

Michael Nesmith of The Monkees wrote this song but their producers hated it. He gave it to Linda Rtonstadt because he wanted someone to cover it since they couldn't..
I still sorta lean towards Linda's version but no one can deny this Okie doesn't have pipes.

1964, the original by the writers.
Maybe the best selling most listened to version.

Plenty more covers, but I think I'll stop at 4.

I agree with you.
A lot of Dolly's songs were written about her own life and sung from the heart. Coat of many colours, Jolene, and probably the best one of all, is the one you mention.

I’ve always loved this song…. (the clip’s from the TV movie I watched a few years ago - A Time To Dance)

That really is so beautiful. I haven't seen that film, I will look out for it.
Roy Orbison sings from the heart, he suffered so much from the loss of his first wife and his two sons.
A person never gets over tragedies like that, even though they may live for decades after, and it shows in his voice.

lol, Syl. It’s a typical Hallmark bubblegum for the eyes chick flick. But some of the soundtrack was good, and the lead actor is easy on the eye
