It's not just the fact that Trump is swiftly removing aid to the victims in Ukraine that is wrong, it's the distasteful alignment with Putin who started the war that makes his actions all the more deplorable. American students have protested against his callous actions. His response? He will stop funding the universities where these peaceful protests take place if they dare to continue. This is the act of a true dictator, anyone who doesn't fall in line is threatened. But he is doing this to his own people which is madness, some have admitted they already regret voting 4 him. The looming tariffs are destroying America's economy as well as the countries he seeks to ruin. Maddog, nobody is blaming the ordinary American in the street , just Trump and his administration. JD Vance has a short memory too but if u pointed out all their inaccuries, outright lies and shortcomings we would be here all week.

One of the CNN reporters raised an interesting question at a recent press briefing about the minerals agreement.
A significant proportion of those minerals maybe in Ukrainian land which Russia is now occupying. Will Russia be withdrawing from those areas as part of the agreement or will they be handed over to the US? if they are handed over will the US be responsible for protecting those areas and would that require potential military involvement? I cannot imagine Putin would agree to leave those areas and what happens if he reneges on any agreement he reaches with the US to co-operate in relation to those territories?

I think that's the idea behind the minerals agreement, in that America will offer some sort of protection in return.
A modern day protection racket, but instead of getting a brown envelope stuffed with cash, they'll be getting mineral rights.

I wonder if that's why Starmer / Macron floated the idea of having our troops as peacekeepers in the region? I can't imagine Trump wanting to commit to US troops being present as that would be unpopular with his base - European problem requires a European solution etc.
Looks like a deal will be concluded though which is a relief. No one wants more bloodshed I'm sure.

America doesn't have to join other countries in providing military aid Maddog, it can join forces with Putin who starts wars , sit back and watch innocent children die. Any country can do nothing to help, but its not morally right. You do understand Russia started the war, not the ukraine, that they are the victims. If everyone adopted Trump's worldview , stood back and did nothing and let genocide continue what would happen to that world?
Sounds like the taxpayers of Europe and their brave boys should do something about Russia. Are they impotent?

Was the defense of S Vietnam from the communist a good idea?
Why didn't any European countries think so after the French were defeated?
Europeans seem to think Americans have to view their region as sacrosanct and its our number one and only area of concern.
How many French boys will be in the line of fire if China goes after Taiwan?
This planet is full of hotspots that are a result of centuries of European colonialism. It's kept our hands full, our boys at room temperature and our debt levels astronomical..
How about the 500 million descendents of all that nonsense "man the fuck up" and handle their business at home?

It's like the whole condoms for Gaza thing. It wasn't funding for transgender mice, it was transgenic mice.
The man is a wingnut of the highest order. Maybe we could let it slide if it didn't appear he was trying to take down the global economy with him.

The condoms for Gaza was actually condoms for Madagascar I think.
I bet he got the mice thing wrong, but how much should the US taxpayer be spending on transgenic mice?

No idea. Depends on whether it had some broader research or health benefit, and possible patents off the back of that.
One of the reasons the US is so strong is you invest in innovation and research. I get that cost cutting is important but don't forget what makes you excel in the process.

If there are patents, the private sector can fund the research..

But then a small group of people will benefit, rather than the people owning and sharing that wealth.
This is where we have gone wrong in the UK in so many ways. We have forgotten that the Government serves the people and what the Government owns belongs to the people, for their benefit. What is the point of a Government if it doesn't protect the assets of the country for the good of their people and to make their lives better?

If there is some medical breakthrough from injecting mice with DNA, we all benefit.
The role of government is to play referee and protect life, property and liberty. That's how it makes our lives better..

Trump is now telling Russia to get in line. I didn't think for one moment that it was a simple as pandering to Putin. He's got summat up his sleeve and some long game. I wonder how it'll pan out?

Trump has no need to pander to Putin..They may have similar personalities, but there isn't some evil plan between the two of them..That's been a widely disproven contention since 2016.
Our world is so binary in thought now that people assume you are on one side or the other..
Not wanting to fund a stupid war anymore that accomplishes nothing, doesn't mean you support the other side..
Knowing Russia wins this war through attrition unless NATO (or some other entity) sends in ground troops, isn't a pro Russian stance..

I don't believe he is pandering to Putin, I do think he is happy to share the riches of the land that Russia have taken from Ukraine.
I think he is as capable of stabbing Putin in the back as he is of stabbing Zelenskyy...or any other countries leaders if it advances his own world standing.
