This will mean the large amount of existing debt which is maturing before the end of June won't get refinanced at good rates lowering interest payments. It will also have downstream consequences for mortgage rates which could rise and stay above 7% for some time. Not exactly great for first time buyers and affordability.
You only have to look at how Japan's economy is imploding at the moment to know that things can get bad, stagnate and then get even worse. It can happen anywhere, including the US.

I've resigned myself to the fact that the American people will not support anyone that will cut spending and take on the debt. They will in theory, but they will run them out of office before they can accomplish anything, assuming they could get the necessary support in congress to do anything.
