JP, thank you about the masks. My dad does not know a lot other than working in the building trade, confined spaces and getting a good, disposable mask. He also has a slightly better one than the ones he sent us, full face with changeable filters, 99.99 filtration but not sure if it keeps a virus out but it sure helps.
JP, I agree that DT is not really cut out to be a leader of any country, never mind the USA. But your comments against another human, a mask without a hole is not nice. You would not say it to him IRL so why here? A lot of what they say about DT is fake news as both the politicians and the media on the whole are there for their own reasons and not really there for the majority of the public.

There seems to be an expectation by many outside of the US that the US has to be the world leader, the world police officer, setting an example for liberal progressive values around the world and have the US taxpayer pay for all of it.

I recently saw a youtube clip of Carlson Tucker talking about Trump Derangement Syndrome where he showed Democrats describing Trump as being racist and the people that voted for him as being racist and the need for all democrat supporters to push back and challenge not only Trump but all his supporters and those that voted for him. Then clips were shown of diners in restaurants being harangued and Trump supporters being accosted and challenged in the street leading to street fights. They also showed Obama giving a speech who compared the Trump era to slavery in the American south.
So I am beginning to think what we are having is some deep polarisation within US politics pushed by politicians (Senators, Representatives) - with democrats openly labeling Trump as racist and calling for pushback.
And the majority of the centre and left leaning Western media outside of the US siding with those Democratic claims and presenting that in endless news stories. So that many people in Britain for example now think that Trump is a racist and mentally unstable and all his supporters are racist.

I really hope the advice they first gave about them potentially doing more harm than good was not for the wrong reasons...ie knowing there would be a shortage so trying to persuade people not to drain supplies. Other countries have said from the start they are helpful in limiting the spread, some countries make it compulsory for them to be worn in public.

No change, evidence isn't changing. I think the media largely plucked that 'changing' thing out of the air. There is no firm evidence on masks. The guy at the briefing said no trials have been done anywhere on this issue. They keep saying evidence is variable and largely weak regarding general public mask wearing. I don't think the science guy has any reason to lie about that.

that's what the government wants you to do, ie doubt yourself. Masks, they are still waiting for "Sage".... there was a massive trial somewhere and that clearly demonstrated the advantages massively outweighed not wearing them especially in buses, trains, shops, at work. When they change their tune they need to show us what new evidence they found which they did not have up until the day they change their minds.
