Anyone watch the ITV drama series about this? I missed it but the more details come out the worse it all looks.
I haven't watched it yet, but I will catch up with it, it's getting brilliant reviews.

The Post Office Ltd as it is known in its current form came into existence in 2001. Ten years later the Postal Services Act 2011 was significant in that it led to the Post Office Ltd becoming independent of the Royal Mail Group as of 1 April 2012.
Royal Mail is owned by private shareholders, and runs the collection, sorting and delivery of post. It is difficult for Post Offices to make a profit - so with Royal Mail in public hands, it was able to reinvest profits into making sure the places you go to buy stamps are well staffed and equipped.

I did some reading it appears the post office is private and kept afloat with some subsidies.
So it's not really government run like the NHS.
But it is like so many entities in the West now. Its an unholy arrangement between government and business.

I am watching Mr Bates v the Post Office, half way through it....my blood boils at the way these people were treated.
I didn't know that the PO police themselves. At the very least they are a corrupt organisation, deliberately lying and cheating the the people who devoted their lives to them, driving some to suicide,
I will finish watching it before I comment further.

Over 700 sub postmasters/mistresses were accused of theft, fraud or mismanagement, some went to jail, many were bankrupt and lost their homes, life savings, reputations, and ultimately their lives.
Each one, when they asked for help because the new IT system was showing them to be in arrears with their accounts, were told that no one else had had trouble.

Between 1999 and 2015, more than 700 Post Office branch managers were convicted after the faulty software made it look like money was missing from their shops. Many were jailed, bankrupted and in some cases, took their own lives - but so far only 93 convictions have been overturned.

The board members at the PO knew very well it was their machines that were faulty, they told every sub postmaster that no one else had problems with the system, when hundreds did.
Every employee had to sign a none disclosure agreement pre employment, that was a good way to keep the victims quiet....they were too scared, and too ashamed to speak out..

We saw one of those little delivery automatons trundling down Washway Road near Sale the other day. It was like something out of Star Wars.

Where on earth would thousands of electric trucks fuel up every few hours?
