You said....
"I am so tired of how I am made to feel guilty all the time about an Empire (which for the timewas the most enlightened ever) a century ago."
So I took it that you did.

I say never feel guilty about what this relatively small little old Island has brought to the World and done for the World. The list is long... and epic.

A single person should not feel guilty for anyones sins but their own.
A country....that's a different matter, but even then what good does it do to wallow in past wrongs from many decades ago.

Look on the bright side. As Brits in the UK you only get blamed for the folks that left your island. You don't get told to "go back to where you came from" .
People say that about people like me who are the offspring of colonizers from a century or more ago, and I'm like "go back to where"?

Yeah I should have said people trying to make me feel guilty all the time Syl. X
How can any of us be responsible for events that happened long before we were even born in a different era?
It's bloody daft.

Indeed, truly remarkable actually when looked at in an objective manner.

We Brits do tend to travel a lot...and I'm pretty sure many a time the drunken idiots who invade the holiday isles abroad often get told to "Go back to where they came from".
You are American, how can anyone tell you you dont belong when you are in your own country?

There are people that like to remind us that we stole this land from the Native Americans.

Recently some of the science/nature sites I read (in particular Smithsonian and National Geographic magazines) have been taken over by endless articles about race and how evil old whitey is.
After a while your eyes glaze over and they lose most of their impact.
It's very counterproductive.

You didn't personally but it got taken. Just like the English starved the Irish and colonised everything they could get their mitts on.

Yeah, I understand the history. Not sure what I'm supposed to do about it.. The world was a different place. All I can do is acknowledge it and move on.

It's all any of us can do. Why hold today's Germans to task for what happened in the war? Not their fault. I think people get riled when others refuse to acknowledge that history though. History teaches us things. Mostly we don't seem to learn.

Every country has had wrongs done against them, but we today are not responsible for what our ancestors did .
I think this generation more than any other seems to want to parade the past as if people today are responsible.

Yup, my outlook at this point is I know what terrible things happened and I know it was unfair. I can't undo it, but I will make sure it doesn't happen again if I have any power to stop it. That's all I can offer anyone, be they black, gay, female or what. If that's not enough, well tough shit.

Yeah it's never ending now, as I say Smithsonian and National Geographic seem now to post stories about racism and violence in the past every bloody day.
In some ways I understand it because events like the Tulsa Massacre are a real stain on the US and they are American publications but what annoys me is BLM, The Muslim Council of Britain and many others here making out we are a savagely 'racist' society when we are anything but.
