For more than a century the IRA have planted many bombs in England, some had a target, many did not.
The biggest was the 1996 Manchester bomb, I heard it from my house, 7 miles away. People were injured, but miraculously no one was killed.

They thought they were in a war and politicians and soldiers were legitimate targets and citizens including children were legitimate casualties.
The problem with their stupid war was that the folks in those 6 northern countries didn't want to be part of their country. It was fought for people that didn't want to be "saved".
I know there are still some rumblings from that crowd now and again, but let's hope everyone behaves. The folks of Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK and their southern neighbors need to respect that.

They might have started off targeting certain religions /political parties but they ended up just blowing up anything and everything (along with anyone in those places) without rhyme or reason. Unless you believe only certain religions go to the ideal home expedition or shopping malls or pubs?

I know it's splitting hairs but a lot of the killings were done by people not directly under the control of either the IRA or the British government..
Both sides had a lot of secret vigilantes that took matters into their own hands.
Obviously, because of historical events, catholics and protestants tended.to be on opposite sides, but I don't think either side was really interested in converting the other to their version of Christianity.
