Kentucky 1936 and the crowd waiting to watch the last public hanging in America.
The fact the sheriff overseeing the hanging was a white woman and the prisoner was a young black man, intensified the public and press interest in the case.
Rainey Bethea was charged with raping and murdering a 70 year old white woman and under Kentucky law at the time a conviction for murder would result in execution at the local prison but a conviction for rape carried death by public hanging, which would satisfy the townsfolk and their thirst for vengence so the prosecution only charged him with rape.
He was found guilty and between 10,000 and 20,000 turned up to watch the execution

Don't get me started on the lynchings that took place in the States. Disgusting. Go Google Jessie Washington if you dare. 10,000 people went to watch that 17 year old black boy being burned alive bit by bit for 2 hours. They lowered him into the flames over and over and over. The crowd even plundered his charred remains for souvenirs, the fucking ghouls!
The level of inhumanity is astounding. And what is worse? Those who commit such heinous cruelty or those who stand by and watch it?

I got the DVD of "To kill a Mockingbird" last week, the one with Gregory Peck.
I've not watched it yet but it's about a young black man accused of something he didn't do.

The photos, they actually hired someone to come and take photos of it.
I hadn't heard of Jesse Washington but I had heard of Emmett Till, what they did to those boys.
Sheer and utter depravity.

Disgusting, appalling and.inhumane treatment. Blacks were easy to blame and anyone could be accused of anything. Shameful!

John Dean is reckoned to be one of the youngest ever people to be hanged in the United Kingdom.
The boy went to the gallows in 1629 for setting fire to two houses and the Judge was said to have found evidence of 'Malice, revenge and cunning' so did not recommend a reprieve for the boy.
How old was John Dean?
He was said to be between eight and nine years old.
Alice Glaston is reckoned to be the youngest girl who was ever hanged and was eleven years old.
She was executed in 1546, what she did isn't known.

I believe religion held us back for centuries. In so many ways. It wanted to keep the masses under control and in the dark. Any progress or tentative footsteps towards science and medicine was stamped out before it even got any experimentation. And God help you if you were a woman who had any healing knowledge or inclinations. Human beings were kept in ignorance and fear for centuries because of religion.

I actually agree with one of those, I wish it was illegal here.
The spitting?
It's gross on the sidewalk.
As for the others we still have a lot of silly laws on the books.

It's still happening today Digs, maybe not to the same extent but it's still happening.
A thing about religion, very religious people refuse to see anything wrong with their religion.
They'll quite happily tell you what's wrong with other faiths but get rather indignant if you dare criticise theirs.

Spitting is disgusting.
A poll in football years ago ranked it as the top offence amongst players.
They said they would rather have a bad tackle than have someone spit on them.

I received a long hand written letter last week from the Jehovah's Witnesses. About the war in Ukraine and so on. They want me to join up so they can save me. Now I have a problem with the JW...They don't believe in blood transfusions and I had five pints of blood last October. I was getting it so fast the doctors were putting it through a heater and I would have died otherwise. Now if I had been a JW I would have to have refused. Why do they believe that blood transfusions are bad? I will ask if they visit me.

Because they say it's God's will. If he meant them to die, they're wouldn't be blood transfusions. Makes no sense to me. .

I've started watching the Conjuring films, some of them feature 'Annabelle' a creepy doll.
The real 'Annabelle' and her history...
The Real Annabelle Doll's True Story Of Terror (allthatsinteresting.com)
I watched the second film today Mags.
The doll hid the baby so the mother would offer up her soul, entertaining but a little far fetched.
A lot of people reckon the Warrens (The Ghostbusters) were frauds out to make money.
This woman says she's the "Catfish Queen' and looks 40 years younger.
That would mean she looks 7
