We are out for a big family meal then back to grandsons mums for a party, IF we are not lagging too much.
We keep to the old tradition of a tall, dark and handsome man being the first to enter our home after midnight...and for some reason he has to be carrying a piece of coal.
My OH has always been that man...he is no longer dark, and he has never been particularly tall, but for as long as we can, that's what we adhere to every new years eve.Â

The coal is to make sure the house is always warm, back in the days when most folk had coal fires.
You would give a piece of coal for their fire.
We do that here as well.
We do First Footing like your husband does as well and then they'll get a wee dram to heat them up.
