Conservatives want to bring back mandatory National Service.
For men and women?
What about the ones who aren't sure? 😉
I generally oppose mandatory anything, but this would be entertaining. The number of young people incapable of handling the smallest of hardships is staggering.
I'm guessing service would include more than military service wouldn't it?

Britain's military considered one of the best fighting forces in the world would become a laughing stock over night!

That's the problem with conscription. It waters down the talent and is expensive.
On the other hand, Israel has it for most citizens and they still have a pretty elite fighting force.
I think the typical Israeli has known since birth they didn't have a choice and are emotionally and mostly physically ready.
The typical American or Brit who never ever contemplated anything as challenging as military service would likely be useless as tits on a boar hog..

"The Conservative Party in Britain plans to introduce mandatory national service for 18-year-olds, offering the choice between volunteering one weekend a month for a year or joining the armed forces for a year."
Volunteering to do what once a month?

"or volunteering in their community for the equivalent of one weekend per month for one year. A Royal Commission would be created to help launch applications for a pilot program in September 2025 and introduce the mandate via a new National Service Act by the end of the next Parliament."
^^While I don't really support these mandates, it's really not any different than any social program. It's a result of someone's labor which is turned into income and taken from the earner in the form of taxes. 🤷

You know what's ripping my knitting?
On EBay, you see something and it looks nice and you are it to your basket and the price increases by about £10
Or the chancers that want huge postage for posting a tiny parcel.
Oh and what's with folk selling their auld baffies?
They must be humming.

Nice to see this subject finally being addressed. We can all see it, even in my small town there must be 6-8 barbers. All empty & very clearly a front for money laundering & drugs but yet the police turn a blind eye & do nothing! twitter.com/aquitainexox/status/1796218411313205677%3D%3D&refsrc=email
Interesting little video in the link on here... yes it's mister Mirage again but he has a point...

Same here. Several barbers have popped up recently.
If the Brits were running these rackets, the police would have cracked down on it before it boomed.

How's Richard Branson doing as he seems to have gone off the radar since asking the British government for a half a billion quid bailout for Virgin Atlantic Airways a couple of years ago.
The government rightly told him to go away even though he offered an island or two as collateral to make it into a loan not a bailout.
Did he help our NHS our care homes our unemployed our anything at all in this country over the years?
Nope because he's a tax exile refusing to pay anything toward the helping out us lot helping the country out in anyway whatsoever.
He doesn't even live here.
I hope his balloon pops.

It's funny how the British government suddenly want to bring back conscription just as WW111 is looming.
Make sure that every politicians child every rich persons child is sent to war as well. If fact let's make sure the politicians are the first to go in

Sorry but setting up a charity that then raises money from the public isn't like paying tax.

It certainly has Digs.
I got swizzled a few months back, it's made me very wary of ordering anything else.
Bloke said my parcel was delivered on the 20th of May yet it hasn't been posted until the 24th.
I don't know how he did it but it was false tracking info he posted.
