Two great black actors who were around then, and did get film roles, were Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte. I loved the film where Poitier starred as a teacher, 'To Sir with love'.

💜🥲
And here’s another little gem for you. Like I said on the other thread - some movies are ageless.

LOL - the WEF should have just waited it out. The fullness of time has shown has provided ample evidence that Brexit is probably the stupidest policy decision we will take in my lifetime.
Also, the leaders of the Leave campaign getting in a huff because of dirty tricks is legitimately hilarious.

I agree with the BIB although I do think people were tricked by the likes of Farage who promised there would be 2 million given to the NHS etc if people voted Leave. What I don't understand is those who were lied to by Farage are willing to trust him again. He wants to abolish human rights to get rid of the immigrants but that will simply never be permitted. Furthermore what does that say about his character?
What are his policies besides getting rid of all the immigrants? Sadly it doesn't seem to matter that he has none.

Cameron should never have put such a life altering decision in the hands of the public. He arrogantly assumed that people would understand Europe gave us billions and leaving would plummet the nation into financial ruin. The right wing media was allowed to wantonly lie to the public seemingly unchallenged, but this same media never believed for a minute their phoney promises would be believed and a leave vote would actually come to fruition.
That's why when the pound plummeted due to Britain's absurd vote to leave and a bail out by the treasury was needed several times to save our economy Michael Gove, Farage and their ilk were nowhere to be seen...Farage has proved himself to be a liar and a fraud. Just because he has more working class charisma (a persona he adopts rather convincingly since he is a millionaire) than Starmer is not good enough reason to vote him in.
The Government and their opposing parties in this country are a mess. I think if the Lib Dems were given more seats more fairness would be restored to the economy but I'm not sure the leader is PM material. The Tories are all over the place with an unconvincing leader and Starmer himself comes across as timid and weak. Labour has achieved quite a lot while in office but with Starmer at the helm I think the majority of the electorate will abandon the party.

I don't think folks are paying much attention to the economy in the EU.
It's hardly something you really want to be a part of and rejoining it would give you Starmer like politicians located off shore, where you couldn't remove them.
You're better off having disembarked from the EU Titanic..

Not to the point we destroy own own economy overnight. The only other time that happened was under the guidance of Tory PM Liz Truss and in fairness, the public never voted for her.

The pandemic and the war in Ukraine significantly impacted the UK economy and it's not true that Brexit ruined our economy overnight. We have improved trade with other countries. To keep banging on about Brexit or Covid, et al, is not only negative but stops anyone or anything from moving on. It's gone. Done. Dusted.

Oh I agree we should move on but people create threads or discuss Brexit because it remains of interest to them. As irksome as Starmer is he hasn't actually caused the pound to crash. The day after the Brexit result was announced Britain had to be bailed out, we were nationally bankrupt. But as I said earlier I don't blame the electorate for that. They were conned, simple as that.
It's been nearly 20 years of Tory rule (not quite but I'm sure you may correct me) and 1 year of Labour. The Tories did create a 20 million pound debt and this would take any following government a long time to sort out.

People, particularly younger ones, forget the absolute financial mess this country was in in the 1970s. We had power cuts. Three day working weeks. Strikes. It was awful.

We were young, I'm sure it was a lot worse for our parents and people who had responsibilities, but it's something (like lockdown) that will stay with us forever. Unions had so much power back then. Under Starmers weak government, those times could be returning.

Syl, that seems like a long time to wait to find out whether everything is as it should be post-surgery.
Just a suggestion, of course, but might it be worth trying to get the X-rays and a consultation done privately? It depends on how patient you are, I guess

I must be patient, because I have just accepted that's how it is.
I know if I had any worries about my post op progress, (touch wood) I would definitely have them done privately, but so far I am doing really well. The physio (still keeping that up) reckons I am as flexible as many people who have never had any joint replacements.

One possible snag will be if both grandsons can get their holidays then, they haven't been able to book the time off yet because I won't have the all clear to fly till then. Also, OH has been looking at Villas in the area we want, not much left, but fingers crossed (again) it'll all fall into place.
