Time will tell whether the UK will go into full lockdown again.
If tier 3, which we and other parts of the country are in presently doesn't work and hospital admissions and deaths continue to rise at the rate they are now....I expect we will all be back to square one again.
Problem is it will have to be a long full lockdown. If it happens. If it's to do any real good against the virus anyway. But it's now clear long lockdowns cause a lot of other serious issues in themselves. Bloody nightmare.
Short ones don't/won't work. The short one doesn't seem to be working in Scotland yet, Sturgeon added another week from the original date already.
I notice Germany has gone for 4 weeks at present. Probably still be too short I think. She isn't going to shut non essential shops though.
For now at least it seems like some Countries speaking of "full lockdowns" are only going as far as our tier 3 anyway.

Don't agree Twiz. Long lockdowns cause a lot of damage in themselves. Its been proven now. WHO don't even recommend full lockdowns now.
The ONS said 26,000 more than usual died in private homes during the last one. Only 3% of those were caused from covid.
Economy does have to be factored into decisions. Sturgeon who I think you agree with her decisions, is messing her economy up more than England right now. Look up the figures. But of course all she does when in trouble is demand more money from Westminster.

Christmas may as well come and go, I know for a fact our Christmas and Boxing day family meet ups are not going to happen this year.
I suppose we just have to look at the bigger picture now and realise this virus has changed the world in a way no one could have imagined a few short months ago. As the latest figures are showing that almost 100,000 people are now contacting the virus every day in England, we have to prepare for a lot more upset in our lives.

The full Lockdown in spring originally saw the virus slow, the R rate sunk below1, less beds were needed in hospitals, the death rate diminished....then as soon as life gets back to some kind of normality, even with the added precautions of masks, social distancing, and many public areas confined to strict rues and regulations, we are seeing another wave which some predict will be worse than the first.
No country can live in prolonged lockdowns, apart from the economy it will drive people nuts eventually. It's on the local news right now, that every area in tier 3 is seeing cases soar...it's not working. I am in tier 3 and cases are soaring.
Herd immunity wont ever work either, further research has proven that immunity from re-infection only lasts for a few months.
For the first time since this began in March, I think it looks bloody hopeless.

Cases may be rising but deaths are not. This time of year is when the already very ill die from any viruses they get. What counts is the deaths of the young and healthy. I'm nor saying the elderly and ill are expendable ( I'm no spring chicken and also have many health problems)
We need real stats not how many are testing positive, but how many of those died and of those who died how many from covid and how many with covid.
Then we need the real stats of those who are dying from other things due to lockdown. how many lives ruined how many unemployed, lost businesses and homes, How many people dying alone in hospitals and old peoples homes. the list goes on
We need to know if the cure is worse than the disease. Even without all those true stats, I'm saying it is.

Until an effective vaccine is found and will have to be delivered several times a year (because immunity drops so quickly) the world will never be free of the virus, plus of course due to mankind's willful destruction of the natural world many more zoonotic pandemics (possibly far more lethal than COVID-19) are waiting to strike in the future, it's just a matter of time.

If I were to pick a full lockdown route to go. I'd actually call a full age related one. Something Boris, and I don't think anyone in the World has done so far. I think it was on the table here in the UK at one point however. Who knows may be still is.
The first national lockdown was novel it was new. You even heard some people say they actually enjoyed it. Being at home so much more than usual. Things like it's a paid Holiday were mentioned. I don't think anyone in the World who has a full-scale across the board national lockdown will get the same kind of compliance levels a second time around. The novelty has long worn off with many.
I'd go for the over 55s. Generally the older you get the easier you find it to stay indoors, be still. The eagerness to rush about be here there and everywhere isn't what it once was. A 6 week lockdown for the over 55s. With financial help. They could still receive visits if they live alone. Once a week. Unless it's someone who needs to take food or medication at other times. People only allowed inside someone else's house if absolutely necessary. Care homes I'd still let visitors go in a very limited way. 1 family member once a week. You can have different family members weekly. They would have to get a test though each week.
It may seem a bit controversial. But I think you'll have less deaths with my option. Infections only count if deaths follow. No ones talking about all the God's knows how many people who have been infected and recovered. People in charge aren't even paying that any attention. Sadly some deaths are expected no matter what. Sadly that's life. Let's face it flu on average, just on average, kills 11,000 people a year in the UK. I bet no one even thinks about that. Unless they unfortunately know one of the deceased.
What happens after 6 weeks. Well sadly it seems we never really know what's around the corner with this thing. There are ideas that a limited amount of vaccines will be available this side of Christmas. Will the virus just somehow slowdown in the end. Does that happen if enough people get it. Essentially they still don't know.
Ultimately with my option though I think deaths would slow a lot.

Just seen the latest on the Mirror website tier 3 showing signs of working in Knowsley, Liverpool. Down from 665 to 475 per 100,000 since Oct 12.
There's other good news there regarding tier 3, as well as some not so good of course. This is covid. It seems to be how this goes.

On local news tonight, cases in many areas in greater manchester now in tier 3 are rapidly rising. Obviously it's early days, but we have been in tier 2 for months previously, it just hasn't worked.
Deaths in the UK are pushing 300 daily again, it just seems like groundhog day to me.
A big difference that a full lockdown now will make compared to the first one.....it's winter. The first one was in warm weather, and lots of people did enjoy the change of life and treat it like an extended staycation. This time it will be different, and though scientists, researchers and experts know a bit more about the virus, I dont believe anyone has any answers on how best to curb it.

What cobblers!
Read Frankenstein recently did you?
An invention can be misused like anything else - mostly by big business for shareholder profits or our wonderful leaders like Trump who is willfully rolling back every environmental protection law the US has ever made or his chum Bolsonaro who wants to destroy what remains of the Amazon rainforest.
Oh and as you use you phone or laptop (like you are doing now lol), electricity, plumbing, sanitation, fresh water through the tap, dentistry or any other modern invention (oh and vaccines to stop you dying from a multitude of horrors) just like a true hypocrite remember what life was like before science and superstition/religion held an even more stifling grip on the world than it does now.
Do you realise just how incredibly hard things were even a few hundred years ago through your anti-science bubble?
Or do you want us all to go and live in a cave and eat raw meat again?
Scientists know how to stop climate change and just about every other environmental problem the world faces - if they were listened to of course.
They are not the villains and it's preposterous to blame them for all the environmental destruction in the world.

Yep. But like I said it is now dropping elsewhere in one or two places under tier 3 I mentioned one of those last night. In 17 days it dropped from 665 to 475.
There lies the conundrum. Improvements occurring in some places. Ongoing issues in others. Well that's one of the conundrums anyway. There are a lot of course.

The scenes in Nottingham town centre last night were a disgrace.
Those who listen to the facts and figures, know what's going on in their area regarding infections, hospital admissions and deaths, the ones who know which tier they are in and follow the guidelines accordingly.
More and more people are now disregarding all the advice, either they think this virus is not real, or if it is it's exaggerated and not a threat...at least not to them, and on principle they wont be wearing a mask or social distancing.

Latest news is that as the spread of the virus is faster than even the predicted worse case scenario then England may go into full national lockdown again early next week.
I hope all those who have totally ignored the guidelines are very happy - the selfish bastards.

The death rate here is predicted to be at least over 500 a day within a month.
Groundhog day indeed. :(
