“” Black Saturday…The Moment Democracy Ceased to Function
For the first time in modern American history, a sitting president openly defied a direct federal court order—and nothing happened. No intervention. No enforcement. No consequences. A legal ruling was issued, and the White House simply ignored it.
And a presidency that can ignore the courts without consequence is no longer constrained by law—it is an untouchable executive.
This moment did not happen in isolation. It happened because every prior attempt to hold Trump accountable has failed. The system tried—and at every turn, it proved incapable of stopping him.
The judiciary was already weakened by years of erosion, but in 2024, the Supreme Court itself ensured that when this moment arrived, there would be no legal recourse left. In a landmark ruling, the Court expanded presidential immunity to such an extent that the office of the presidency is now functionally above the law. A president can commit crimes while in office and face no immediate accountability “”
At this point, it’s wrong to only blame this clusterfuck on him alone. The blame should also be borne by every chickenshit treacherous member of congress who continues to turn a blind eye and refuses to try and stop him.

And to be fair the millions of Maddogs who excuse his every move.
Yep. Them too, absolutely (although, I do kinda get MD’s concerns - especially with regard to the US deficit)

Ah darlin - you’re not alone in that!
But trust me on this, he really is evil personified. The better news is, more and more people are becoming aware of it.
(& thanks, btw! )

Yes he's turned into a dictator! Surrounded by billionaires! Wants to be President of many countries by invading them!

I‘m sure you could come up with a few names, but to a non-American like me, there IS no alternative. The Dems are in a hopeless state right now. Their messaging is pitiful in the face of trump’s media dominance, and there just doesn’t seem to be anyone to inspire and galvanise Americans - especially this far away from the next election cycle.

Some serious players in the Dem Party are moving to a more centrists position. Last week, Newsome and Rahm Emanuel spoke of the stupidity of allowing boys in women's sports.. Of course the Dem Party is so weird now, that just started a firestorm.
But for the next 2 years anyway, it's going to be the Trump show..
He will likely do things a I support, and things I dont. The courts will keep him somewhat under control. Next election, maybe the Dems in congress will have the numbers..
I do think the rest of the planet should expect less influence and money coming from the US. That might be better for everyone in the long run

Should I go back to the election booth and not for him a 4th time?
If that’s a for real and proven gang member, and not a paid actor in a slick ad agency production, then that’s great I guess.
What‘s their criteria for judging whether these people are members of a gang/cartel though? Tattoos?

I think the Dems are done for a while in the same way as the Conservatives over here are done (unless they become more like Reform or enter into a coalition of some sort.) If it's anything like Brexit it will be around 8 years or so before most people realise MAGA is an utterly stupid idea.
Also, for all the right wing whining about MSM and how left wing it is right wing thought dominates all the areas where political messaging is important like social media, online alternative media, longform podcasts and so on.
I think the public have give a very clear indication that they are completely fed up with the status quo and will accept pain in exchange for something different. Boring old centre left politics like the type I favour just won't cut it anymore.

That's very possible.
There's also another theory that Trump is trying to engineer a recession or downturn to put pressure on the Fed to lower interest rates, and in turn seek to refinance government debt at a lower rate this year.
Apparently a lot of government debt is due to mature in Q1 and Q2 of this year and is therefore capable of a change in terms. Even if Trump manages to negotiate a small reduction in interest rates given the US national debt is so large it could lead to a significant saving over time.
I still think Trump is a bloody idiot though on many other things...

I wonder if he will decide how he wants to share the invasion land grab with Putin?
"The US president and his Russian counterpart are due to talk on Tuesday, with the Kremlin confirming talks between the pair will go ahead as planned.
“We will see if we have something to announce maybe by Tuesday. I will be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday,” Mr Trump said while flying from Florida to Washington on Air Force One on Sunday night. “A lot of work's been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end.”

Work? Oh please! He’s the laziest SOB, ever. So far this time around, he’s already spent 35% of his time in office golfing. Cost to the American taxpayer to haul his arse to Florida every weekend = circa $1.5 million.
That‘s a whole fukton of “waste, fraud and abuse” right there!

That's a good question. Their immigration status is pretty clear (undocumented) and they were most likely arrested for a crime.
Granted they weren't convicted of anything. A conviction is hardly required for deportation though.
The only problem with this is sending Venezuelans to a prison in El Salvador. What is the criteria for getting out of that hell hole, assuming they are innocent? And how long are they stuck there?
Might be better (more legal) to deport them to Venezuela. 🤷

Government debt rolls over every month..We are refinancing notes that were .5% for more like 5%..
The whole reason the Fed raises rates is to slow down the economy. And Trump is perfectly fine slowing it down some too.
One way followers of Modern Monetary Theory believe in slowing down the economy is through taxes (or tariffs)..
While I think MMT is dumb, they are correct that you can slow an economy down with that tool.
And we are definitely still above the Feds target of 2% inflation..

I don't really think Putin is that interested in ending this war. He will try to stall, accuse Ukraine of breaking agreements and just outlast US aid. He'll wait for the US to stop aid. And make another push for Kiev and the whole country.
That could get interesting for Europe, and maybe even us. Trump can turn on a dime when he is challenged, and in spiite of all the crap you hear about Trump and Putin being buddies, Trump isn't the type of guy who would ever backdown from someone like Putin.
He wants to take credit for ending the war. He could go rouge and try to end it himself.
If he does that, grab some popcorn..

Maybe it’s me, but your posts often seem to reflect an underlying admiration of him that you stop just short of admitting. Agreeing with how that despotic psycho rolls would be your prerogative, of course.
But for the self-proclaimed ‘Libertarian’ you often say you are, I find it a bit puzzling.
I'm just not into discussing him. I'll discuss what he does.
That's a first!
I have been saying all along him and Musk and their other billionaire friends are crashing the economy on purpose to enrich themselves at everyone else's expense.
Here's a guy who agrees.
Problem is Musk and Trump have gone about it in such a wildly public political way that the entire world has turned against America and America are going to find that all those trade agreements won't65 be coming back to America.
Sure they'll achieve enriching themselves but the country will be a smouldering crushed mess that probably won't recover.
They don't understand subtle.
Trump & Musk Secret Plan to Crash Economy to Make Billions!
Musk has lost about 140 billion in 6 weeks.
Musk visited Toyota in late 24 and apparently came back visibly shaken and declared that
Toyotas new engine would destroy the entire global EV market so Tesla was finished
in its present form anyway.
This may well be a way out for him without having liabilities to workers, national and international governments
for infrastructure costs etc... I don't know but the new Toyota engine is expected to hit the streets by 2026.
