Over 9000 deaths worldwide yesterday (easily a new record) with 492 dying in the UK and more than 1200 again in the US - it looks like the second wave will be far worse than the first if things continue to escalate at this rate. :(
The World Health Organisation estimates that between 290,000 and 650,000 people die worldwide every year from influenza-related causes. How many are dying of flu and how many are actually dying of Covid? My father in law died in May but he was never tested. It probably was Covid, certainly sounded like it, but it also could have been flu.
It's Covid.

Another daily record yesterday worldwide (9,301), it will be 10,000 deaths a day by the end of the week, I hope those that think COVID-19 is not serious will remember those figures.
Edit.
I was wrong we are there already, 10,180 deaths in the last 24 hours including almost 600 here and nearly 1500 in the US.
I hope to God this vaccine works.

The virus is rampant in certain Countries yet again. That is for sure.

New records are being set every day for daily deaths it was nearly 11,000 in 24 hours world wide with 2065 passing in the US alone.
The various vaccines cannot come quick enough.

Even tougher measures than Tier 4 are on the way and we are now isolated from the world.
To think at the beginning of this thread we were not even certain about a second wave!

These tougher measures should have been done back in March.
Boris and his bumbling scientists - Boris isn’t going to ruin my christmas,
I have waited 8 months to see my son and even if i am reduced to one day, I will
see him. The mobile testing unit is still there where he lives and he had a test done
last Saturday and he is having one on Wednesday, so Boris and his bumbling side kicks
can fuck right off!

Both you and your son are in Tier 3 aren't you Twizzler, so your son can come to you, or you go to him on Christmas day.

March? It was that tough then. What wasn't going on then. That is now in tier 4.
If you are talking about borders? The borders side of things is a mutual thing on both sides. Because of the new variant. However the EU even more specifically France are doing it more for Brexit reason than covid imo though. As I've spoke more about in another thread.
Also we don't have thousands upon thousands of people crying that they want to get back home from other Countries this time around.

I think we had better brace ourselves for a huge surge in infections and deaths.
With the ever depressing news about this new variant of the virus it's just not looking good, and till the vaccination programme has been made available (and people have bothered to accept it) to everyone nationwide, I can't see an end to this, not a pleasant one anyway.

We'll be in Tier 4 after Boxing Day.

Almost 700 deaths here yesterday and Wed is usually the peak of the week for fatalities.
Grim.

And other places have the new variant on-top of the ones who have already said they've identified it. They just haven't identified/announced it yet.
For one I think Germany have it. Their death and infection rates have been WAY higher and climbed extremely fast compared to in March/April etc

I guess even with new variant and all that. Some people will still do a Christmas permitted or otherwise with some socialising no matter what the rules are. That'll be one reason.

I think there will be a complete lockdown again, possibly before we even see the new year in.
The way the infection rate is rising, NHS beds are rapidly filling up, and the death rate is getting as bad as it was at the beginning of the pandemic in March....it's inevitable.
It's Covid.

One step forwards and two backwards.
