What the hell do GP's do nowadays? It used to take 2 days to order prescriptions at the surgery then pick them up at the chemist next door. Now it takes 3 days for a Dr to sign them off....problem being, even 3 days later they still haven't managed to press a key on a computer to allow the repeat prescription to be made up by the chemist.
BLOODY USELESS.
I agree, and we have to now make appointments a week in advance! Could be dead by then!

There are never any appointments to be made at ours now, either online or by phone....nothing, nil, nada. Appointments are made early morning, the problem is everyone tries to get through then, it's either impossible, or if you do manage it, all the appointments are already taken.
We are advised if it's an emergency (life or death) to dial 999, or for other matters, ring 111.
We in this area feel like we have no NHS GP service anymore.

It's beyond a joke now. We have to ring at 8 but the queue is so long, and appointments are for a week later, if you get through at all. That's only a phone call from doctor. I've not had a face to face since before covid. This will never go back now!

Same here Mags. I haven't seen a GP for over three years.
I have had a full hip replacement, need a new knee replacement, had to seek urgent medical attention because I needed antibiotics, had blood tests, and going for an MRI scan this week, plus numerous physio sessions, ALL without the GP bothering to see me once.
They rely on walk in centres NHS helplines and A&E to do their job for them. A GP was always the first point of call to get none urgent medical treatment, not any more.

Same here. Had phone call Saturday about my spine operation, that's it! No backup nothing. Gone are the days of follow-up after ops. Told him about pain in hip, he said see your doctor, I said I'd like too!

We have a standing joke around here, the only time we see our Dr is on the TV.
Something happened a few years ago and his wife became quite high profile, he supports her...so is often seen on TV.

I got new doctors, have no idea what they look like, nor them me. Family doctors are a thing of the past. 😔

I've tried a number of times to ring at 8 to get an appointment. I've been 19 in the queue moving gradually up to number 2 then the line went dead. Rang back, now number 16 in queue, I gave up there'd be nothing left by then. Another time I was number 14 - got to number 1 started ringing - joy, then no one answered Held on for 5 mins. Tried to ring another number for test results at a certain time - again no answer. I complained only to be told there was a fault with the phone system - there still is by the seem of things. I have also tried going on line answering a load of questions only to be told sorry can't help - contact your surgery for an appointment - if only. Rang out of the appointments time and asked for an appointment the next week - can't do that ring at 8 - I have a number of times, anyway it turned out to be interesting enough for them to get me an emergency appointment - palpitations - still haven't had the results of the tests I did get.

It's so bad Vin. Doctors don't seem to want to work anymore. You could die by the time you get an appointment. No point going to AE, stuck there for hours before even seen!
I grew up when your GP knew their patients, did two surgeries a day without appointments, then did house calls, and was on call during the night for part of the week.
Our old GP used to pop in for a cup of tea at our house when he had house calls in our village. He seemed content enough, he had a nice house in the next village with surgery attached, very nice cars and went on holidays. It used to be the first call would be to your GP if you were ill and they decided if an ambulance and hospitalisation were required, many even attended accidents or did shifts in the cottage hospital A & E which was open 9 - 5 - closed now of course. How did they manage I wonder.

My GP, till the age of 25, actually delivered me. He knew of every illness I had ever had, and did house calls when needed.
His surgery was always full....doctors like him dont exist anymore.
Three surgeries in this area combined a few years ago. The waiting room is empty, yet no one can get an appointment.

Same here Syl. I had to go for physiotherapy, no one in the waiting room. Just what do doctors do all day?

I went for an MRI scan yesterday. I was the only one there, in fact, the hospital doors had not even been opened yet, and this is Manchesters leading hospital.

Dr Sanders did that for my family when I was a child - day or night.
He was wonderful.
My health is very poor atm and I can't get an appointment to see a fucking doctor for love nor money.
I bet if I was a channel crosser I fucking would though - they get everything else.

Seems to be the way of it. Our surgery waiting room is empty when you go there. We have a senior partner there three days a week and about 4 others there two days a week, imagine what they could do if they were there 5 days a week like the old days, let alone house calls or on call. The surgery was closed on a thursday afternoon with a morning surgery on saturday, still no thursday afternoon but definately no saturday surgery. GPs were the first call in the health service now people don't bother and go straight to A & E, is it any wonder the dept is under strain. GPs couldn't believe their luck when Tony Blair handed them their new contracts. Now that surgeries are privately owned by the doctors companies are busy buying them up, (one US comapny apparently) then the majority close because they don't make money. I still work part time for a funeral firm and getting forms for cremation from surgeries is fraught with problems, some need you to physically take forms in for them to fill in then you have to go back to collect them (they are readily available on line, you just print them off). Then it depends when the attending doctor is in work to deal with it, it keeps families waiting to get the funeral arranged. It recently took 6 weeks to have a cremation service for a relative of mine.
Another gripe is that cremation offices - no go areas during covid are still no go without an appointment, everything is getting more and more remote, cut off from the public at every turn even registrars, you have to wait in the car park until they phone you to check if you are there, then allow you into the offices..

Scotland are annoying me, well the SFA.
Scotland are the joint oldest international football team in the world (founded in 1872) and our 150th anniversary top to celebrate this momentous occasion is £90:00
Plus it is now £3:50 for a Scotch Pie and £2:00 for a bag of crisps at Hampden.
We won 3-0 yesterday but no pie or crisps were bought!!
