He chose not to leave his son...I can understand that.
Can you imagine the dilemma? I think I couldn't live with myself if I left a loved one alone to die. I would rather die with them.

I'm terrified of fires, but I would never leave my child. Brave man, good dad.

I know one would have to be there, but I too don't think I could leave a loved one to burn.
Maybe you would find superhuman strengh to get them out...or die trying.

Probably going to sound heartless here...there is no way I would risk my life like some have to save my home. Granted memories/keepsakes etc are irreplaceable however what good are those if you're dead?
What will a domestic hosepipe do if firefighters cannot control and extinguish the fires? - I've just read that a couple of people were found (dead) with hosepipes. I suppose panic and fear take hold, a fight or flight scenario.
Apparently, a few people did save their homes with hosepipes.
Thanks for that. I've since read about some saving their homes.

Some Scumbags are looting, they should be shot on site.

Hope they get long prison sentences. Lower than a snakes belly!

Can you imagine going back to see if the fire has ruined your home, it didn't, but looters have ruined it instead.
I wonder how many of the dead (24 at last count) are looters?

"If Lubeley and the others try to leave, they risk being unable to return. On Monday, one of Lubeley’s friends, Janely Sandoval, delivered essentials. The real-estate broker drove her white Mercedes SUV up to the neighborhood checkpoint and stacked supplies for Lubeley and others at the makeshift border: water, bagels, bananas, grain-free tortilla chips and other staples.
“Can you guys hurry up?” one officer told Sandoval as she finished. “We just got an order not to allow any supplies through.” "
The police there aren't much more effective than the FD..

If Police are stopping supplies through, how come the looters are getting through?

When it comes to government, especially places like California I always apply Hanlon's razor..
These people are too inept to plan this.
There will be land grabs after the fact as scarcity is an economic condition that exists when the supply of a good or service is dramatically reduced.

I know he is controversial, but his theories may hold water (no pun)
It seems very odd that the fire chief was so clueless about the lack of water...surely it's up to the fire department to check these things, especially as the fires had been expected.

What's causing Los Angeles' ferocious wildfires outside of the fire season?
It's winter.

Sorta. It's actually the water department's responsibility to provide water but the FD should be aware of any issues .
Former fire chiefs question staffing during a red flag warning..The trick is to catch these things early and overpower them. Once the fire gets large, the fire department is overwhelmed no matter what you throw at it.
Also, this department isn't staffed with the baddest firefighters available, but the most diverse. Fighting fires is just that, a fight. You need folks that can square up and physically attack the enemy..
