The possible consequences of this message alerts you to the real possibility that you can be easily hacked, tracked, located, etc by anyone with a bit of knowledge. It's the way the site has been set up and does not always mean the site owners are up to no good but it leaves you open and when I see messages like that, I avoid. The site owners can ask the hosts for help and pay for a certificate to make the site safer but many smaller sites do not do this.
But you haven't avoided. You are still here and using the site. You can't really be that worried.
