There is no better way to improve health than heavy weights and heavy weights are not going to make you look jacked unless you really get intense on your training and diet.
It your doing what Gabrielle or Stacey Sims says, you're not going to look like a body builder, but your health and body will operate better, later in life..
Your list of things you used to be able to do won't be as long..
Judging by how toned, yet still naturally feminine they look, I’d imagine these world class skiers would go along with that
But in answer to your question up there - not in this lifetime, bud I walk, and I swim. And now I’ve started riding again, I’ve pretty much got it covered thanks!

Well yeah, world class skiers are spending a lot of time time in the gym. They need to protect those knees, especially women..
But this thread was more about mere mortals getting old and what are the best ways to make it suck less..
According to most research and longevity experts, lifting weights is one of, if not the best things, one can do.
And for some reason, that just irritates the piss out of people..🤷
And speaking of skiers, Lindsey was one of the best and she still hits it hard.

I just started a thread where I share information from experts on longevity. You are free to ignore all of it..
An error isn't not knowing such things. An error is pretending that you do, when you don't and/or continuing to defend things that no longer are true, simply because they are part of your routine or habits..

I said I know what suits me, I don't particularly like doing 50 situps, or 50 tricep extensions every morning, but they suit my capabilities and keep me 'toned'.

Toned isn't quantifiable. It's a subjective measure of someone's appearance. No doctor or trainer will test your "tone".
And if you're just working your triceps, your ignoring your biceps, delts, pecs, back, glutes and quads. Its better than nothing but not as a good as a more compound movement..

This song is only 3 and half minutes.
Even as a body weight exercise it will blast your quads and glutes. The static hold is what will get to you a minute or two in.
And its probably not as boring to many people as loading up a squat rack..
If you throw in the kettle bell like she is, I promise your delts will be screaming well before the song is over.

Not ‘toned’, Syl (& Anon) ‘toned’ is not quantifiable.
Dawg says ‘jacked’ instead, so I guess ‘jacked’ must be quantifiable

I don't need anyone to test my tone...I can see and feel it for myself.
I don't just work my triceps, I do various arm exercises with my trusty 81b weights. I mentioned the tricep one because I don't know what the others are called.

Anyway, for me...they work just fine. x
I probably said it was better than nothing, but not much.
Simply because all of the evidence says as much.
I'm the messenger, not the Dr or PhD.
She seems to be doing what suits her and what she's happy with. She doesn't appear to have the body image issues or underlying feelings of inadequacy that can drive people to become fixated on exercise.
I don’t see the point of taking health advice from someone spouting exercise when they are overweight themselves despite, supposedly, working out with weights. Do as I say and not as I do springs to mind.
No advice targeted at the males, just the females it seems. There’s a word for that.
Do you mind sharing that word because it seems we have all forgotten it?
I don't think Maddog is that bad in that regard, although he should probably accept Syl is happy with her fitness routine and she certainly does more than enough exercise! I don't always agree with MD but he is not disrespectful in my view and I like him as I like most here.
I think it's the misogynistic sentiment claiming that the England female football team are "mostly mingers" NOT provoking a reaction on a forum is the most surprising, whether it was stated by a man or woman.
The lasses have been trolled by men on social media for many reasons so it's nothing new but people do pick them up on it. It got worse since they won the European cup (oh some men were VERY threatened by that ,claiming woman's football is not a real sport etc. It couldn't have been because the male team couldn't dream in a million years of achieving the same honour ) One I believe has left social media altogether for receiving genuine racist abuse.
The reason claiming female football players are "mingers "with "no boobs" is misogynistic because they are not in the fashion and beauty industry, they are sports women. They will have an athletic build due to the necessary training, so if you don't think their boobs are up to snuff mid ogle that's why.
Also seeing and judging them all without any make up on is hardly fair as we see other ladies in the media with a face full of make up and hair preened. The person judging these sports women on their looks(for whatever reason ) might consider other women in the media "mingers" if he saw them without a scrap of make up and hair pulled back. I assume this gentleman has worked in his life, was he ever judged on his appearance if it did not pertain to his job requirements? Of course not.
One player in particular with long glossy blonde hair who speaks quite often (her name escapes me, apologies) would actually look great with make up and her hair styled.
But in the year 2025 this shouldn't be a relevant discussion. They are not there to have "ogle" worthy boobs because their appearance is not relevant to their job , they are not fashion models or working in the beauty industry, they are sports women and appearance shouldn't, and in fairness to most normal men , doesn't matter. It's just saddens me that some men will think women failures, no matter how advanced their achievements or how intelligent and kind they may be.
Luckily many men just don't think this way, my OH hasn't mentioned the players looks or bodies (the latter would just be weird(!) and hopes they do well tonight in the semi final. We will be watching and hopefully the team can win the whole thing as they did before!
