I hadn’t had fish fingers for years so tried some for tea with oven chips and peas…would have preferred with baked beans but had none in.
Tinned Baked beans in tomato sauce are the food of the devil… disgusting, revolting things! I’d rather starve to death!

Heinz baked beans were a staple of my childhood diet, they were cheap, nutritious and tasty.
I don't eat them much nowadays, but the odd time I have made them on toast, I still enjoy them.

So, I thought it was strange that baked beans never mention what kind of bean they use.
Turns out they are navy beans for those interested in such matters. Around here, pinto beans are typically used for beans, and they aren't syrupy sweet either..
Of course black eyes peas are really a bean (legume) and are very popular around here too.

We know them better as haricot beans. I have never heard them called navy beans.

How do you really feel about them though? 😉
I'm not a fan myself, but I'm not sure they are satanic..
They are too sweet and all that added sugar takes a very healthy product and makes it much less healthy. Putting it on white bread doesn't help..

I have never heard of them, not sure if we get them here.
It's probable though, there are some weird and wonderful veg making it to market stalls and supermarket shelves nowadays.

They would probably come canned. Although I've seen them dried in some places..They are basically just a small black eyed pea. You may not have those either.🤷
I think the south and Texas eat more beans than most of the planet, at least in terms of variety..I think many are adapted to our weather and soil..
I almost always have about 5 or 6 different kinds of canned beans in my cupboard because I eat them at most meals. But I buy them plain..The can has beans, water and some salt. I season them from there..

About the only canned veg I buy are peas, runner beans, baked beans, spinach and sweet corn.
OH loves chip shop style mushy peas, I prefer garden peas. (both tinned)

I don't really consider legumes to be vegetables. I buy all my vegetables fresh.

"According to the USDA Dietary Guidelines, legumes, specifically beans, dried peas and lentils, are classified as vegetables. However, eating beans and lentils does not necessarily count toward your daily vegetable intake. Whether you count beans and legumes as a protein or a vegetable depends on the amount consumed. USDA MyPlate suggests counting beans and legumes as part of the protein group—with a few exceptions (more on that below). When you have met your recommended servings of protein and have any extra servings, these servings can be counted as vegetables."
They are vegetable ish..🤷

I do consider beans veg, but like you, the majority of my veg I buy fresh.
Tonight I am having with dinner my favourite, white cabbage, boiled for a couple of minutes, with lots of butter and black pepper.

You should try out that new oven and roast the cabbage. Think how much more flavor is in roasted potatoes vs boiled potatoes..👍

Depends what we are having. Tonight we had beef bourguignon and chips, roast veg would have been too greasy.
I will try roasting cabbage though, but I will have it with boiled potatoes when I do.
