Been there done all that Maddog, I had my first total knee replacement 10 years ago.
It was a huge success, awaiting the other...also had hip replacement in same leg 2 years ago.
I actually need an ankle replacement too, but they are not so successful, so trying physio first.
Osteoarthritis is a bugger.
I think this is what Maddy is trying to avoid in his old age but unfortunately it rarely works out that way.
I understand his desire for healthy longevity though.
As Dr Attia puts it, it's about health span not lifespan.
It's about being as healthy as possible right up to the end, so life is as enjoyable as possible..
Of course being healthy should extend both, unless you get hit by a truck or get some bad luck with say cancer..
But even with the big C, recovery is possible, and far more likely depending on your health going in..

I also think avoiding depression is a huge help to living a healthier lifestyle.
We may not be able to run marathons, but we can enjoy having a walk in the countryside....and when we can't do that, an active mind will always find something else to do.
Easier said than done, I know, because a healthy mind, like a healthy body, is not always possible.

She works in a very high end, assisted living-memory care facility. People can become very depressed when they lose mobility and strength. Her job is to keep that from happening if she can, or regain it after a setback..

I've been out with and spent time with a lot of available women, and I can rule most out in minutes and about all of them in a few conversations..

I'm just saying, that the prescription for it is more movement, not less.
