It's similar to tapas or meze...bits and bobs of tasty food, some hot, some cold, and not as filling as a full meal.
Yeah, they are similar.
Apparently a girls dinner can have some junk food though..
I eat at Mediterranean places a couple times a week. Thankfully they don't have chips and candy on their mezza plates..

Is that the same as imaginary gravy?

😂
Gravy usually means ‘bread too‘ for me. Which is why I very rarely have gravy.
That said, I had a lovely traditional Sunday roast beef pub lunch with friends yesterday 😋

Bread and butter, or bread and oil are my weakness too.
I don't have to wait for any gravy either, I will have a couple of slices of bread with every evening meal.

I make sandwiches like my Nonna (Granny) used to make for me. Not often, so it’s a rare treat when I do.
Cut some ciabatta bread open into 2 halves. Pour some good quality virgin olive oil onto both the doughy parts. Spread the oil around like you would butter, and let it really soak in. Add salt & pepper to taste.
Add some fairly chunky slices of ripe tomatoes. Drizzle a little Balsamic vinegar onto the tomato slices.
Put the whole thing together…and enjoy! 😉

Yummy...add some garlicky olives and I could happily make a meal out of that.

The combination of carbs and fats, especially processed carbs like bread and pasta is everyone's weaknesses.
It's why people can plow through pizza or fettuccine alfredo.
The carbs taste very good mixed with fats, and they start spiking your insulin making you want more tasty carbs.
Same thing happens with corn tortillas at a Mexican restaurant.
Most people aren't going to go crazy with plain corn tortillas. Cut them in quarters, deep fry them in oil and now you have a basket of chips with hot sauce. People plow through that.
Nobody wants to eat a bowl of plain mashed potatoes.
But fry those things and call them fries, chips or crisps and they are litterly addictive..

I love plain boiled potatoes, season them, add a small knob of cholesterol lowering spread...and they are as tasty as a plate of chips.

We are going out for a meal with friends tonight. 😃
... or roadkill?
Tuna would be correct..
Asparagus with some Hatch peppers and mushrooms, avocado, cheese and Kalmata olives.
Sorta what some call a "girls meal" over here. Or so I've been told..
Girl dinner (not meal).
As a non girl I forgot the proper term..
