A major irritation stems from when I repotted a huge plant I have upstairs. I noticed tiny gnats flying around in the windows soon after. We put up old fashioned fly papers at the side of the windows, which are an eyesore, but they caught loads of the little buggers....which made me realise how quickly they were breeding.
I don't want to throw my plant away, I have had it about 30 years, and it's very healthy. It's impossible to take outside because over the years it has grown through an upstairs railing, and sort of drapes down the stairs....unravelled, it has to be about 10ft high.
We can't be the first people to have this problem....incidentally, I have never had this problem before. I swear when they recently stopped putting peat in bags of soil, they replaced it with infected rubbish.
Try dotting some cloves about the soil and on the leaves.

I will try both, thanks.
Firstly I am trying this....spread wire wool over the top of the pot....making sure it's completely covered. I just bought some from the Range.
Then I will get some pebbles to cover the wire wool, so it looks nice. I will still be able to water the plant, but I won't for a week or two, I have noticed there are more tiny insects flying about after I have watered it.
I just watched a Youtube, and the woman swears this will work because the gnats can't escape once they have matured....soon they will all die off.
Fingers crossed.

The wire wool will rust then disintegrate. Try buying some insecticide that you put in the soil

Some irritating twat at the checkout today trying to pay with her phone. 5 minutes of huffing, puffing, pecking at the phone and futility before whining...."It won't work!" Fucking moron.

I will only leave it on till the lava have stopped maturing and flying around.. According to the Youtube I have watched, the adults only live for so long...if they can't get out, the plant should then be pest free.
I hate killing even tiny gnats, they don't bite and they have not damaged the plant at all, in fact, it looks healthier than ever. but I can't have little insects flying around in the upstairs windows.

Email this morning letting me know my wife's car insurance is up next month would I like to renew?
Well it's gone up a hundred quid.
She has five years no claims.
So I went on confused.com and the best deal I can get is with her existing insurer but a hundred quid cheaper.
So I went for that rather than renew.
Would it notice that she already has a policy awaiting renewal and stop me?
Nope new policy starts next month a hundred quid cheaper so worth checking out when yours comes around.

Same here. My house insurance went up over £100 to renew. So went on Compare the Market and got one cheaper than the last one was last year!

I bought Shorty a bag of 'Sprats' at Christmas and have been putting off opening them because...
1...They look disgusting
2...The smell would knock you doon.
However she loves them, just given her one and my stomach is already heaving.

A man was found dead last Saturday in Aberfeldy.
He had been out walking his dog and the police said it wasn't suspicious.
So since then, everyone has been walking through the area with buggies, weans, dugs and goodness knows what else.
Now the post mortem has revealed the man was murdered and had actually been shot in the head.
How the hell did they miss he had been shot in the head?
Then there was the Emma Caldwell scandal just a few days ago, a public inquiry is needed there.
Police Scotland are completely incompetent.

They missed two poor souls in a carwreck for almost a week once.
The man was dead but the woman wasn't, died four days later in hospital.
Might have lived if they had been found sooner.

Not that far from me yesterday, we had the armed response unit, the dog unit, a vet and countless police vans and officers after an XL Bully went berserk.
Another one brought up from England to Scotland to escape the ban.
It was eventually killed.
It makes me so nervous taking Shorty out for a walk.
I've already been got to avoid a certain area because a big brute of a dog has twice tried to jump a fence to chase us.
Both times I grabbed Shorty and ran like hell.
Fortunately I was always the fastest runner at school but that's not the point.

If I had a dog, I would be very nervous about taking it out for walks, especially if it was a small dog like yours.
So many people don't control them properly...all dogs need training, even if they are harmless, a big dog bounding up to you, especially if you have a dog of your own, can be scary.
One man used to walk across the fields with his collie, it used to run up to us, jumping up, often with muddy paws....that was more irritating than scary.

I always shorten Shorty's lead when I see people approaching us.
I let them make the first move because I know not everyone likes dogs.
Some people have no consideration, especially the ones who let their dogs off leads and crap all over the place.
Yes putting poops in bags is disgusting but it's part and parcel of owning a dog.

You are a responsible owner Vita, you love your dog. The people who don't control their animals can't have the same feelings for them as you do yours.
