The U.S press secretary Karoline Leavitt has confirmed that as part of our trade deal the 10% baseline tariff will remain. Trump commented that we will be receiving their meat as part of the trade deal which he admitted had extra "additives". He also said in amused tones they may start "doing things our way " i.e not bathing our meat in chlorine. The one thing I feared was their dangerous meats in our country that go against our FDA standards. I do feel Starmer could have got rid of the tariff as part of an official deal, but patently non. I hope it is a mutually benefical deal. Or that it benefits us at all..!
1. Concerns about US Production Practices:
Antibiotic Use:
The US uses significantly more antibiotics in agriculture, including meat production, than other countries. This raises concerns about antibiotic resistance in humans.
Growth Hormones:
Cattle are often given growth hormones, some of which are banned in the EU.
Clorine Washing:
Raw chicken is sometimes washed with chlorine, a practice banned in Britain and the EU.
GMOs:
The use of genetically modified (GMO) crops in animal feed is common in the US, which raises concerns for some consumers.
Regulation:
Some argue that the US regulatory system isn't as stringent as in Europe, potentially allowing the use of chemicals and practices that are banned elsewhere.
And we're actually trying to clean up some of this nonsense. Of course its all political now.
People are opposing everything from this administration because it comes from this administration..

But like people do, they will fight about whether 2 and 2 is 4 if the wrong side says it is

Thank you for providing the specifics Syl. I am now five times more worried than b4! I don't personally eat red meat, mostly fish but myself and most I know eat chicken. I suppose the american meat can be avoided if clearly labelled but then the plug might be pulled on the trade deal altogether if Trump isn't making a profit.

Not exactly the Charge of the Light Brigade, but about equally as effective..

and yet…
‘Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for "direct talks" with Ukraine, saying they should "start without delay, as early as 15 May".
"We seek serious talks... to remove the root causes of the conflict and start moving towards a lasting, strong peace", he said on Saturday, in a rare televised late-night address from the Kremlin.
It comes hours after European leaders - including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron - visited Ukraine and urged Russia to agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had said Moscow would "have to think this through" - but warned that "trying to pressure us is quite useless".
Putin said he would "not rule out" that in the course of the talks - which he proposed should happen in Turkey's capital Istanbul - Russia and Ukraine may "be able to agree new ceasefires, a new truce".
The Russian leader said he would speak to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday to discuss the details.

My point is, this war ends when Putin decides it does.
Unless you want to use the military might of Europe to force him out..Threats of sanctions and shit won't faze him..

Nothing wrong with concerned countries encouraging peace, as futile as you may feel it is. Trump will no doubt take full credit if peace comes about.

No, there is nothing wrong with trying, which is why I thought Trumps comment about the World Cup was as good as any others.
Who really knows what will get Putin to stop?
Maybe he will stop if we offer him a trip to Disneyland?.
No idea what Somalia or Vietnam have to do with anything. Are you planning a trip to one of those two fine countries?

I see the most pointless trade war in history may be coming to an end with the recripocal tariffs between China and the US being brought back to around their Liberation Day levels for 90 days.
A 30% tariff on Chinese goods will probably squeeze a fair number of small US businesses out of the market which means that big business will monopolise more of it (about that ongoing transfer of wealth I was talking about...) but at least it won't tank the US economy. How all Trump has to deal with is the potential for increased interest rates, inflation and stalling growth (let's hope the job market holds up.)
Turns out Trump is more left wing than I am as he is signing an Executive Order to impose price control on pharmaceuticals sold in the US. Seems like a good idea in principle as US drug prices are crazy expensive. However, will be interesting to see if Big Pharma will try to hike prices up on other countries to make up the shortfall, invest less in R&D or reduce supply into the US which could lead to shortages. Time will tell I guess.

So, trump is picking up on Biden’s successful policies.. And of course he’s taking all the credit for Biden’s work.
Ditto Biden’s Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act. Every time ground is broken to build a bridge or improve roads, etc, you’ll see a Republican in front of a camera, basking in all the glory - despite the fact he/she voted against the Bill being passed.

Melania Trump statue goes missing in Slovenia
"All that remains of the massive bronze statue are the feet – and the two-metre-tall tree stump they were standing on.
At its unveiling, Mr Downey said the new version had been designed to be "as solid as possible, out of a durable material which cannot be wantonly destroyed". "

That aged well.
