Don't agree. It is not our custom here, so shouldn't be allowed.
It's customary to drink tea in Britain, so should drinking coffee not be allowed?
How about wearing a Stetson hat?
Ridiculous answer and you know it.

Examples of your own claim that if something isn't customary it shouldn't be allowed.

Syl what do you think of when Islamic ladies have to don a black sheet( i'm guessing sheet is not the correct name for the garment!) and are covered from head to toe? I agree we shouldn't stop Muslim ladies wearing a Burqa if they so wish ( as long as it isn't being forced upon them ) but being covered head to toe is not just totally impractical but extremist and a symbol of misogyny in my view. None of this is cited in Islamic doctrine as Digger said, the covering of the female body has been invented by men as an implement of control. I just wondered what you think.
I think they look horrible, but once again, if a woman chooses to cover herself, it should be her choice.
IF she is forced to wear it, there are organisations where women can get help. When a woman is forced to wear something or act in a certain way by her husband /family, forcing her to cover herself is just the tip of the iceberg. Can you imagine the grief she would get if she went out without it? I imagine her life would be more controlled than it is now. Banning it would create more problems for oppressed women, not less.
Lastly, where are the extra police who will oversee this law isn't broken?? They can't cope with real crime, I can't see them throwing themselves behind this law.

Immigration brings lots of practices that were not common here. As long as they are legal and don't cause damage, they should be allowed...who wants to live in a dictative society?
There is no comparison in wearing an item of clothing and mutilating children.
Don't agree. It is not our custom here, so shouldn't be allowed.
I hope it's banned as It is in some other European countries.
Mags, We have lost a lot of our customs and traditions, and it's no ones fault but our own.
For instance, when I was a child, even when my son was small, we always held up the tradition of Whit Sunday (which is today, but I doubt anyone has even noticed) We had Whit walks, street parties, even the poorest kids had something new to wear and neighbours would put silver in their hands....all gone, no ones fault but ours.

Please put forth an intelligent argument instead of this silly drivel.
Do you think the argument that if X is not a British custom it follows that X should be disallowed is a sound one?
See, there are three kinds of X: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes. And all the assholes want is to shit all over everything. So pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes! And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

For security reasons I believe all full face coverings and voluminous burqa style robes should be banned when out in public. But other than that, it’s easy to compromise if ’modesty’ is a religious priority. After all, we don’t bat an eyelid when we see fully-garbed nuns among us.
the 'nuns do it' argument goes on and on ad nauseum. Nuns don't wear a full face veil. The ban doesn't cover the hijab, just the burqa. If people want to cover their hair, that's up to them. But when you cover your entire face it takes away one of the main things that humans communicate with.

covering your whole face is not the same as wearing a headscarf IMO. Also, nuns aren't abused if they don't wear a wimple, and they can leave a nunnery anytime they like without fear of death threats and revenge for their apostasy.
Most countries have banned the burqa but not the hijab. However, some muslim countries have, such as Tunisia, Turkey Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
It's a complicated issue and there will be differing opinions on both sides. I have a particular thing about women's rights, and the fight females have had against subjugation that goes back to the time men first stood up on two legs and perceived women as their property.

Diggs, I’m in 100% agreement with what you’re saying.
Just to reiterate, I absolutely believe voluminous burqas, and especially burqas with face veils, should be banned. Public safety should always trump whatever the reasons might be for women to wear these garments when out and about.
By the way, wanna guess where I've often seen store windows displaying lingerie that would make a porn star blush? In muslim countries, with full-on burqa/veiled women walking past

That's because beneath the burqa many of these women dress just like we do. Full make up, jewellery and regular clothes. It's only in pubic they can't show that. A hypocrisy that illustrates and reiterates that the full body and face veil is enforced by men.

BIB - yes, much more often than not. But not always, imv.
Re hypocrisy though, and again anecdotally, years back I was transferred to Jeddah on a 10-month contract. At the start of Ramadan, I took a week off for a quick trip home. It took an eternity for the car to drop me off at the terminal and the airport was absolutely rammed with a mass exodus of locals, all headed for European destinations. By the time I checked in and was airside, all the ladies’ loos were crammed with women ripping off the veils, the burqas and the hijabs. And on went the western fashion - mostly designer brands - and the full-on makeup.

Another U-Turn by Starmer - this one concerns launching a national inquiry into the Pakistani grooming gangs - he has caved in after months of pressure.
Labour would save a little bit of face if they could admit to their mistakes and apologise, instead of claiming they were right all along and circumstances have changed. They are only U-turning because of woeful local election results and public opinion, and not because they have suddenly decided to 'do the right thing'. Reeves is claiming that Labour "never dismissed the concerns of victims" and that Starmer was doing "everything that was necessary". Yet more meaningless empty words that they are trying to con the public with
The same with WFA, where they claim they were right to strip OAPS of the allowance in the first place, and can now pay it to them because Labour have 'fixed the economy" LoL
Chinless wonder Cooper will make an announcement later about the grooming gangs inquiry - watch her try to make a case that Labour were right not to launch one earlier, and that it was in the interest of the victims, who they care about so much of course.

The idiot had previously claimed that anyone calling for an inquiry in the rape gangs was 'jumping on a far right bandwagon' - by his own definition, this must now make him far right as well!
I'm wondering how him and Cooper will try and squirm their way out of this one.
Reeves has already made a fool of herself over it - she should stick to fucking up the economy rather than getting involved in things outside of her department. I heard her talking about a potential war with Russia the other - it was scary stuff - not the prospect of war, but that her and Starmer would be making life and death decisions on our behalf.

Allowing the grooming gangs to operate under the noses of the authorities, then not allowing a public enquiry, pretending, as you say, to be acting in the interest of the girls, has been a national shame and disaster. It has caused racial tension and hatred for decades.
GM Mayor Andy Burnham has worked with Maggie Oliver in the past, they have both asked for a public enquiry for months...the sudden turnaround is because Starmer KNOWS he is wrong, and has been wrong since the victims were ignored in 2008, when even back then he denied them their day in court.
