I read or listen to pretty much most of what this man writes/has to say. (@Dawg… yeah, I know - “TDS” + the rolly eyes….yada yada … whatever…)
Greg Olear’s Ramble: on Sadness & The Sinking Ship
“It is unprecedented in this country to be able to have to fight back against a tyrant. And that’s where we are…. the fact that Trump is okay with just egregiously violating the Emoluments Clause, just egregiously violating it, not even pretending to hide the corruption at this point? The meme coin stuff that happened that was right before he took office: that’s just a way for hostile foreign powers to funnel money into his pocket….. It’s a bribery mechanism, as I see it…..And now this thing with the plane, he’s going to accept the plane, and then he’s going to fly around in it. And then it’s going to go to his Library, which means he’s going to continue to use it. So it’s a gift to him of a $400 million airplane …… So it’s bad on so many levels, but he doesn’t care. He’s so overt now. He’s so willing to be transparent about the corruption…. It’s sad. It’s a lot of different things, but it’s sad. So I wanted to talk about that.”
I‘m deeply saddened by what I‘m seeing - and I’m not even American!
Nothing wrong with pointing out the flaws in a country's leaders..
Trump shouldn't take that plane. More people should care. Half the country doesnt care. The other half would support something equally as stupid from the other side..The hypocrisy level is insane in my country..
I'm pretty sure the cycle is part of the human condition and we just have to endure it. It's not like we have some sort of decent alternative to the current clown. The people have made it very clear. Were not ready to try something new yet, like say Argentina did.
Can someone in the know clarify what President Trump is doing with Air Force 1? I thought the article stated he intends to keep it when he is no longer President but surely that's just not possible. What did I get lost in translation?

The new planes and old planes will be owned by the department of defense..
If Trump wants to retrofit the new plane, that will take years.. Probably as long as waiting for the current replacements to be finished..
Air Force one is a flying fortress, not a typical commercial plane. The current replacements are delayed..

The man is mad and I'm sure when the electorate voted for him they didn't expect ethnic cleansing although surprisingly this is not illegal under international law. Trump wants to remove everyone who is not white from the population of America although obviously he can't go that far. But by deploying the National Guard and now apparently the Navy(!) on a protest that has been forced to be peaceful he is trying to pretend to those less liberal that all immigrants are bad news. Even if they have lived there most or all of his lives. I cannot imagine this is what the majority of Republicans want surely. But Trump is rubbing his hands in glee because he embraces chaos and disorder, especially when he can spin the narrative to his own ends. The immigration laws he has employed and now trying to demonise people who have lived all their life in the US is the most chilling thing he has done yet. I fear it's only the beginning. He should never have been given this power to wield in the first place.

You're a little over the top. Nobody is being deported if they have lived here their entire lives (except maybe children of illegal immigrants).
He is deporting people that came here illegally, then were given a special status to stay, and that is shitty.
The protests are mostly because he's doing exactly what he said he would do. Close the border and deport the millions that came here illegally. He's no doubt doing it with great zeal and punishing California because it's done everything it can to encourage this immigration. California doesn't even believe immigrants can be illegal..
I do think Trump may regret this. It's starting to kick off everywhere, just like 5 years ago.
It's definitely entertaining..🍿
Maybe in the end, we will wind up with laws that make it much harder for the president to declare an emergency every time the wind blows?.

Maddog I concede I was a little OTT but seeing the military pelt peacefully protesting women with hard rubber bullets causing injury just seemed all kinds of wrong. On a seperate note out of curiousity may I ask Maddog, have you noted the cost of food and other goods rising or do they seem the same to you? I just wondered if the tariffs Trump has imposed has yet to make a dent on everyday life.

I was wrong when I compared this to 1992 yeterday. At least in 1992 troops were deployed with the consent of the Governor of California as it was agreed that law enforcement couldn't contain the situation.
What is to stop Trump doing the same in DC or NY or Florida, or anywhere protests are happening that he doesn't like? I know what I would be thinking of this kind of thing was happening in Russia or China.
It's easy to overreact to Trump. It's easy to underreact to him as well.
The man is a clear danger to the US. Who knows how long it will take America to recover when he leaves (if he does of course...) "Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor saftey" - some American guy.

As I said in the other thread yesterday, this is all a sequence of practice runs. On a daily basis, he tests the limits of how far he’ll be allowed to go in his quest to completely dominate America.
He doesn’t GAF about any legal challenges/lawsuits. In fact, if he could have his way, he’d swerve past having to deal with the lower courts and just order his legal team to head straight for his robed stooges at the Supreme Court, where it’s pretty much guaranteed his every whim will be enabled.
If his open defiance of the law and the Constitution continues unabated all the way to the midterms - and if the projected midterm results don’t go his way - I’m betting he’ll figure out a way to suddenly manufacture another ‘national emergency’, invoke martial law, and order the military to seize voting machines.
Nothing’s off the table when it’s about maintaining his chokehold on power.

He's certainly got fertile ground to push for more power to be centralised in the federal government and him, and move towards an authoritarian state.
There's a lot of anger and fear he can harness to do so under the guise of law and order. Economic conditions are tough and will probably get harder for ordinary Americans which will make things worse. He can also rely on the undying support of probably the most stupid political movements of recent years - MAGA - who are captured by a cult of personality rather than what is good for the country.
It makes me thankful to live in the UK and this country is a complete state at the moment!

‘I live in a small MAGA town.
I know MAGA people. I drink with them. I talk to them. I study them.
They’re not the loud Twitter yappers, at least most of them. They’re quieter. Slower. But the delusion runs deep, just bottled up in passive smiles and soft voices.
A few weeks ago, one of them tried to convert me at a bar. He knew I wasn’t into the Trump cult, but he started soft. Calm voice. Friendly tone.
“Mario, you’re white. You can drink a lot, you eat meat, “he was just surprised that I was eating rare burger” and drinking vodka chasing it with Guinness. He also said, “You’re one of us. You should feel proud.”
That’s their seduction tactic.
Not facts. Not logic. Just subtle tribal grooming.
“You’re white. You drink. You belong.”
It was almost sweet, in a sad, culty way.
Like a Jehovah’s Witness trying to sell you eternal life with a shaky brochure and cheap suit.
But let’s talk about the whole ecosystem.
The truth.
MAGA men?
Most are not warriors.
They’re out-of-shape, insecure, jealous small-town boys who peaked in high school, still clinging to stories from when they “almost went pro” or “should’ve been in the military.”
They’re proud of being able to drink a case of light beer, drive a truck, and scream about freedom while their knees buckle from sugar and rage.
They’re easy to manipulate because they don’t ask questions.
They don’t read.
They react.
They memorize memes like scripture and repeat them like gospel.
They think being loud equals being right.
They think the world is laughing with them.
It’s not.
The world’s laughing at them, when it’s not just ignoring them entirely.
MAGA women?
They’re caught in a brutal paradox, constantly screaming about how proud and strong they are, while reshaping every inch of their body to meet a fake beauty standard pushed by the very system they claim to hate.
Plastic lips. Inflated cheeks. Eyelashes thick as windshield wipers.
Trying to look rich while shopping clearance at Walmart.
They scream about “natural family values” while injecting Botox and collapsing into MLM scams that promise empowerment through overpriced lipstick.
They mock liberals for being “gender confused” while wearing more synthetic parts than a Barbie made in a Russian factory.
Here’s the thing: MAGA America isn’t just backward.
It’s boring. MAGA folks are simply subsimple.
There’s nothing imaginative about it. No new culture. No innovation. No ideas.
They don’t invent, they imitate.
They don’t challenge, they chant.
It’s the same five phrases over and over.
The same flag. The same truck. The same outfit.
Patriot cosplay.
And that’s why the world doesn’t just hate MAGA.
It forgets it.
Because once the shouting stops, there’s nothing under the hood.
Just cheap beer breath, fake smiles, and a belief that whiteness and loudness are still enough to matter.
You want the brutal truth?
Even without Trump, even without the cult, most of them would still be irrelevant.
Not because they’re evil.
But because they chose comfort over growth.
Tribalism over truth.
Imitation over imagination.
They don’t want to understand the world.
They want the world to stay small enough to understand them.
And that’s the saddest, most humiliating part.’

Mario spent a bit too long bashing women for me. He admits there is pressure on women to maintain a synthetic image. This pressure comes from the media and the men who own that media. It helps keep all the plastic doctors in porsche's too. It's ultimately men who are repulsed by aging women and have affairs with their secretary so whilst I agree with most of what Mario says I could of done without the victim blaming r.e women's choice to have plastic surgery. He did mention these women's personality(what little they have, granted) did he.. ah very briefly. Not so different or superior to many other men then.

@Vam - I don't know if you have seen any interviews with this lady but she recounts her experiences of dating far-right men for a year, which seems to have a fair degree of overlap with the description of MAGA men in your previous post.
Some of it is a little sad. She describes many who are lacking real world connection who have found it with strangers online and their minds warped in an echo chamber. They spent a lot of time complaining about women and not being able to find a relationship. I have seen other interviews with her where she explores a much darker side of this world, expecially when it comes to women. The search for a "trad wife" for some of them is about control and dominion over a woman rather than a relationship based on love and mutual respect. There's a broader theme as well as modern dating seems horribly transactional these days.

The courts still have some power, but there is precident for sending in troops to enforce federal law, or at least to support federal law enforcement. (Waco was basically a military operation at the end)..
And while it's very unusual to deploy US troops, they are basically guarding federal buildings, not engaged in law enforcement..

But the party in charge of beating them (the one where Obama easily beat the competition), can't get out of their own way and keeps losing their base.

The saddest part is, that this describes a movement easily defeated.
But the party in charge of beating them (the one where Obama easily beat the competition), can't get out of their own way and keeps losing their base.
Spend some time on HuffPost and unless you agree with those rabid lefties, you'll see why the "purity test" is driving people away..
No more pesky federal laws and wide open borders..
It's a win for everyone.
