Allowing the grooming gangs to operate under the noses of the authorities, then not allowing a public enquiry, pretending, as you say, to be acting in the interest of the girls, has been a national shame and disaster. It has caused racial tension and hatred for decades. GM Mayor Andy Burnham has worked with Maggie Oliver in the past, they have both asked for a public enquiry for months...the sudden turnaround is because Starmer KNOWS he is wrong, and has been wrong since the victims were ignored in 2008, when even back then he denied them their day in court.
He is the weakest PM we have ever had....pitiful.
Too right Syl, I despise Stammer!

I have been reading and listening to Baroness Caseys report on the grooming gangs, the turnaround she has made from not granting a national enquiry to now commissioning a full public national enquiry....and though it's welcome, I haven't read or heard ONE single point that so many people have known about for decades.
Millions knew that it has been a cover-up, protecting Pakistani Muslim gangs for decades.
Police, politicians, and authorities blaming the victims, vulnerable, usually white kids, often from deprived backgrounds, accusing them and making them feel guilty for being, raped, groomed, and passed around to the perpetrator's family and friends, was the norm.
It's all over the news now....but it's old news for people who have followed the 'none' progress of investigating these gangs for what they are, for decades.
I don't know how this enquiry will progress, but I wonder if many high ups, who constantly denied and tried to hide the truth, pretending race and culture had nothing to do with this, thus letting the gangs spread and grow...I wonder if they will also be brought to justice.

I had a to do a double take this morning when I saw the word 'Pakistani' all over the news sites and front pages. It's only taken 20 years or so for it to be aknowledged. As you say, everyone already knew what the report says, and that's 20 years or racism accusations for speaking the truth. The report also says that authorities 'shied away' from the ethnicity of the rapists, and even today, in two thirds of cases, the ethnicity isn't reported. Casey said that when reading the police paperwork, the word 'Pakistani' had been tippexed over in some instances.
I don't undertand why 'being seen as racist' has such an effect on people. It is so mis and overused that it carries very little weight compared to what it once did. Yet the fear of it has caused authorities to turn a blind eye to children being raped. If someone calls me a racist, I'm like 'yeah ok, whatever'. If I worked in a job that dealt with these cases, there is no way I would have turned a blind eye, and I'm sure that applies to anyone else with a moral compass.
Surely Starmer with his 'far right bandwagon' nonsense, has become not fit for purpose? He has for some while imo, but how much more can he get away with?

Syl, there is a 3 year cap on the inquiry, which I think is reasonable considering the sheer volume of cases and people involved.
I'm wondering how they will get the resources and pay for it though.
Hopefully there are a lot of people shitting their pants this morning - rapists and those in authority.
The rapists should be jailed, and those in authority should be named and shamed at the very least, and if neccesary, fired or even jailed themselves. No one should be able to get away with it, no matter how much a part they played in it.

We all know Red that absolutely nothing will be done to those in authority…they may get named but chances are they’ll get moved to another position or retire on “medical grounds” (no doubt with a handsome payout and pension).
I’ve long given up on expecting justice in the UK.

Maybe some money could be found by getting a grip on housing the illegals and asylum seekers that are coming from the very places, where treating white girls like trash, is accepted.
I don't know if you have listened to some of Maggie Olivers (ex Greater Manchester DC) interviews. They are eye opening.
She was threatened with imprisonment by the then GM police chief, if she carried on mentioning race and ethnicity when she was dealing with these gangs.

Anyone in a senior position back then, ie decision makers, will be getting on for retirement now, if not already retired, many with their own children or grandchildren.
To be publicly named as someone who turned a blind eye while children were raped, could have quite a damaging effect on them and how they are perceived by friends, family and neighbours. So it will be a comeuppance of sorts.

Fair point but do you think that anyone who stood by, even covered up, kids being raped would be truly bothered what others thought of them - possible vigilantism yes but other than that…

I'm sure in retrospect, a lot of people, including social and care workers, who failed to look after these kids, telling them they were nothing more than willing prostitutes, and had made their own life choices (some were 13 and 14 years old) will indeed be bothered.
They will have to face up to the fact that they could have helped countless girls who came after the first victims, if only they had spoken out honestly.
Incidentally, this isn't in the past. According to one of the initial whistle blowers, Maggie Oliver, the woman who has dedicated her life to bringing these gangs to justice, it is still going on.

Yeah, I think they will. They aren't necessarily thick-skinned monsters, but workers who looked the other way and didn't do what they should of done. In effect, cowards
Name and pic in the media, everyone knowing what they did. People staring and whispering. Not pleasant

Don’t get me wrong Red I’m all for naming and shaming, pics included, but I still don’t feel being socially embarrassed would affect these types.
Look at Shoesmith in the Baby P case. iirc she claimed that she and the sacked members of her team were made “scapegoats”. The two SWs, last I heard had not been struck off the SW register (or whatever it’s called). A child was brutalised to death and not one of the people, whose sole (employment) purpose in his short life was to protect his safety, were held legally accountable. Yeah jobs were lost (and subsequent unfair dismissal claims were made) but other than that not much. If you take on a role which effectively is protecting lives eg police, courts, social workers etc then I feel legal ramifications should be enforced / higher levels of accountability at failing should be mandatory.

This is an interesting clip from PMQs (2.45 minutes on)
"Standing up for rape victims is not far right"
"Why does this government prioritise housing illegal immigrants over young British people?"
"Why does this goverenment side with foreign criminals and not British citizens?"
Labours only response remains that they blame the Tories for everything and are unable to justify their own failings.

If the government do reveal the truth there may be a divide between races and a very hostile reaction. Some Pakistani and Islamic men view western teenage girls and women as just objects to use...and share. They intend to marry a 'decent' woman of their own race and religion and have a particularly disturbing view of white western girls. I have experienced this myself. I was 18 and had a Kurdish boyfriend 5 years my senior in uni. We had been getting on well until he brought two friend's with him on a date. My bloke asked if the friends could join us in the bedroom. I said no (in shock) and they laughed as if my distress meant nothing but eventually left. My boyfriend confessed they had 'shared' girls before, sometimes a bloke just watched (!) and it was their 'culture'. Usually I am a liberal poster but the reality is men of certain ethnicities think white girls are worthless so it is no surprise they make up a huge percentage of grooming gangs.

My friends and I also experienced older Muslim and Asian men trying to pay us ten pounds for sex when we were out shopping. That's one of the more wholesome interactions. I can't empthasise enough how predatory and misogynistic these men are. They genuinely think white teenagers can be bought for a coke and packet of crisps. Some were married, a few were affluent but all had a sense of entitlement. These gangs targeted and sexually abused vulnerable children and for the police or government to cover up their crimes for any reason I think is an offence worthy of jail along with the groomers themselves. This is the reason multicultural Britain doesn't thrive, because men of different cultures don't view their own wives and daughters as equal to themselves and see western women as easy prey. This way of thinking is criminal and we have allowed it for too long in the UK.

I'm sorry you had those experiences.
It is without doubt that the ethnicity and conditioning of some men have put girls and women in this country at a real disadvantage, and the authorities have allowed it for decades.
Obviously it is some men, not all, and I don't like the blanket term Asian.
Indians and Chinese for eg, come from different cultures, but they manage to respect the people of the country they settle in. I have great Indian neighbours, and have worked in China town in Manchester in the past.
There was never any trouble with the men disrespecting the women...the opposite in fact.

Amazing that Labour are blaming the Conservatives for doing little to address the grooming gangs.
Labour was previously in power from 97 to 2010. Those gangs were operating and spreading from the 1980's .... and no one knows that more than Starmer.

I didn't mean to imply all men of these ethnicities Syl so I apologise, that is definatly not true. There are predators of every colour and creed. Also, the younger generation of Muslim and Pakistani men who mix with all ethnicities may want to date or marry white partners but the old fashioned parents and grandparents forbid it. This outdated mentality goes against western and indeed British values.
