@Vam - I don't know if you have seen any interviews with this lady but she recounts her experiences of dating far-right men for a year, which seems to have a fair degree of overlap with the description of MAGA men in your previous post.
Some of it is a little sad. She describes many who are lacking real world connection who have found it with strangers online and their minds warped in an echo chamber. They spent a lot of time complaining about women and not being able to find a relationship. I have seen other interviews with her where she explores a much darker side of this world, expecially when it comes to women. The search for a "trad wife" for some of them is about control and dominion over a woman rather than a relationship based on love and mutual respect. There's a broader theme as well as modern dating seems horribly transactional these days.
No, I’d never heard of her, but will definitely check her out some more. Thanks!
Wow - conducting a research project by dating and socialising among subliterate culty MAGAts, is really taking one for the team!

I agree. And there’s still time for that to happen (assuming elections will still happen in America).
As POTUS, Obama was a one-off. He‘s blessed with natural-born charisma and allure. As an orator, he’s in a league of his own. Whether or not you agreed with his policies, he was an X-Factor POTUS - right up there with JFK (imv)
But barring your dearest wish for the emergence of a viable 3rd party, there are some very credible potential candidates to be found among the Dems.
It would be great if all those geriatric fossils still rattling around in Congress have the humility to step aside and let a younger fresher approach get behind guys like Josh Shapiro, Wes Moore and Andy Beshear.

Obama couldn't get through the democratic primaries now because his party had shifted so much.
You're now called a fascist if you think people can be deported for being here illegally or if you think people with penises shouldn't be in girls locker rooms or competing against them.
Currently, we have people thinking the visual of someone in an American city waving a Mexican flag, wearing a keffiyhe, standing on a burned out police car is selling well in Topeka.
It's not..

You sure about that, MD? (the rest of your post - yes, absolutely ) My point really was that Dems urgently need to come up with someone with some serious gravitas, who’ll inspire and excite folks.
If they don’t, if old farts like the pointless, ineffectual Schumer still stubbornly continue to cling on, and if the shrieking whack jobs still continue to alienate the mainstream electorate with their bullshit, then I’m afraid the Dems will get exactly what they deserve.

I think Maddog is right really.
The Democrats do have a deficit of star quality in their leadership but the main problem is the party itself seems to have lost its way and forgotten how to win from the centre. The American left need to have a big tent which includes liberals, independents and even people who are usually on the right. They have forgotten how to speak to people rather than lecture them.
I meant it when I said the MAGA movement was one of the most genuinely stupid political movements I can remember. Yet I have seen MAGA influencers (who are as dumb as a bag of rocks) routinely get the better of people on the left without breaking a sweat. People on the left tend to be really good at arguing about the economy and class issues but they seem to have fallen right into the trap of spending an inordinate time talking about issues which don't affect a lot of people (like the trans issue rather than the much bigger issue of misogyny) which is an easy win. I mean they even make Charlie Kirk look good which is quite the achievement.

The disconnect happens when the Dems decide to get deep and meaningful and preachy on issues. Whereas, the only tactic the RW social media influencers and podcasters in the MAGA eco system have to apply, is to simply keep chucking out tried and tested triggering words to the base. And to pathologically lie, of course.
After all, they learned how to take their cues from the Master Manipulator. And look where he ended up!

Maddog I did ask earlier but don't think you saw it. Will try one last time! Have you noticed the price of foods and general goods going up due to the imposed tarrifs etc or has the cost of items remained the same? Also, are people in everyday life who previously liked the President still ok with him or do they feel some unease, possibly anger with his behaviour?

Food prices have stabilized. At least based on the inflation reports from yesterday or the day before. Inflation in general is still here, but it hasn't changed with the tariffs, yet..
I think there are a few folks that have changed their mind, but for the most part we just have people getting more vocal and animated with their displeasure or support..
People calling Trump the next Hitler didn't just arrive at that conclusion. They are just screaming it louder and more often..

Consumer prices rose less than expected in May as President Donald Trump's tariffs had yet to show significant impact on inflation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.
The consumer price index, a broad-based measure of goods and services across the sprawling U.S. economy, increased 0.1% for the month, putting the annual inflation rate at 2.4%. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for respective readings of 0.2% and 2.4%.
Today is the American military's 250th birthday. It also happens to be 47’s birthday.
Instead of allowing the military to mark the occasion in accordance with tradition, the twice impeached, convicted felon, adjuciated sexual abuser/rapist POTUS - whose Daddy’s money ensured he could dodge the draft FIVE times - has hijacked the whole occasion to make it all about him. He has commandeered the military to ‘perform’ for him.
Americans attending the more than 2000 ‘No Kings!’ protests today - and folks the whole world over - are hoping the heavens open up and biblical torrential rain pours down on his head and especially on his hair. I hope we find out whether a ferret can swim ….. 😈

Two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers (a Senator and a Representative) along with their spouses have been shot and killed by a man impersonating a police officer. It is unclear if this is a politically motivated killing but it appears to be.
US Marines detained a US citizen in LA recently. The detainee was a retired veteran on his way to a VA appointment.
I've seen footage of plain clothed ICE agents bundling a hysterical woman into the back of a vehicle. What is to stop a group of men impersonating ICE officers from doing the same, or God forbid a child, and bystanders are afraid to intervene?
All this while we may be on the cusp of a wide ranging conflict in the Middle East.
If it walks like a banana republic, talks like a banana republic and quacks like a banana republic then....

You cannot stop it but you have make it less likely that people will come to harm as a result of it because they know their legal rights will be respected, so they know they are dealing with legitimate law enforcement. So for example, if the cops show up at my property and demand to enter it and search without a warrant I can say I do not wish to do so until the can produce one. They will then go away.
If you create a climate of fear where people are afraid to exercise their rights for fear of additional prosecution as a result of failure to comply that safeguard is taken away.

In an interesting development it appears both congress people from Minnesota voted to end healthcare benefits for illegal aliens in Minnesota.
They crossed party lines and joined Republicans on Monday's vote.
Could be unrelated..🤷

We should know definitively at some point as the shooter's political manifesto, along with the name of other lawmakers being targeted, was found in his (police!) car at the scene. This sounds like something more sophicated than a random nutter, possibly a terrorist attack?
