It's going to be a shit storm here this weekend..Possible one inch of ice which will pull down trees and power lines followed by Fahrenheit temps in the single digits at night..
They say this storm could rival the 2021 storm which killed a lot of folks.

Sounds bad, take care Maddog....and don't go out on your bike for a day or two.

The bike is staying parked..The 4Runner probably won't be. I may drive south to visit some kids, especially if the power goes out..

If it's going to be safe to drive, and you can visit family that's not going to be in the dark...that's what I would do.

I have a 4wd and I have never not been able to drive no matter what the weather is.
So I'm not worried about that. I'm just not sure they live far enough south to dodge this storm. If I'm going to freeze to death in the dark, I may as well do it at home..

Blimey, that's a sobering thought.
Our electric was off for 6 hours earlier this week....in the daytime, but it was horrible. So if you are expecting more serious blackouts, make sure you are prepared...we were not.

We might have folks that go without power for a week..This storm is going to impact tens of millions of people and you can only repair downed lines so fast..
Hopefully it switches to snow quickly. Snow is fine..

Blackouts are miserable. The last outage made me ensure that my tablet is always charged 100% 24/7 and it has some downloaded audiobooks and DVD copies always on it - I may not be able to have a cuppa but at least I'll have some entertainment.
Stay safe Maddog.

Felt quite nippy early this morning, looked out the window and noticed the grey sky and rain...felt miserable until I saw the pics coming out of Russia with their snow. Yikes.

Power is still on as the temps didn't get below freezing until the rain let up.
We have some ice, sleet and snow, but not much. Supposed to be more on the way and it might come down as rain, even at these temps. That won't be good..
It's horribly cold no matter how you put it.
What happens to your garden plants when it gets so cold? Anything less than -5 here and my palms and olive tree suffer....I try to cover them or put them away before it drops that low,

If it isn't in a pot that can be taken inside, and it's not acclimated, it usually dies.

When we had that bitterly cold spell here, we had to make sure our tortoises well covered. Bloody fox was bothering the soil around him, so hub put tiles round him.
If he had been exposed to the elements, it would have killed him. He is so very old now, well in his eighties. I couldn't bear to lose him.

Tortoises are among the longest-living land animals, with most species having a lifespan of 80 to 150 years, and some exceeding 200 years. Their remarkable longevity is largely due to a slow metabolism, which reduces the accumulation of cellular damage. Common pet tortoises typically live for at least 50–100+ years, making them a lifelong commitment.

Yes, I think, like bears, because they can shut down their bodies, they can live twice as long. Wouldn't it be great if we could do that. We would be young again

Oh God no...I will be happy to go when I have lived my term....I wouldn't like to hang around twice as long...and can you imagine the housing shortage?

Same here. I just wondered whether the plants readily available to you were hardier than what we have.
Palms may survive if they are very well established here, other than that, they die, as I know to my cost.
Colder than us tonight and in the coming weekend.
That's what I like to see.
It's just dull, dark and drizzly here....horrible.
