It's nicknamed "Auld Reekie" in Scotland which means "Old Smokey" in English.
Back in the 17th century part of Edinburgh's old town was enclosed by a high wall to protect the city from invaders.
It was also a popular place for dumping dead bodies.
Unfortunately the high wall also enclosed the residents and the smell from the dead bodies, coal fires and chimneys left the area with terrible air pollution and the whole area was covered in a thick smog and a bad smell.
Hence "Auld Reekie"

Ah thought it was, I've been to the castle, but didn't understand reekie, now I do. 😄

I've been saying for years i must go and see the Pandas but something always seems to come up.
I don't think we're going to get any wee MacPandas.

I like Scotland. I want to back again someday, rather than abroad. Such beauty to see here in Britain.

It's a beautiful country Mags and it has stunning scenery. If you come back visit the East Neuk Of Fife. That's my favourite part of Scotland and visit "The Fish Bar" in Anstruther.
It will be the best fish supper you've ever had, even William and Kate couldn't resist having one last year.
Apparently they were regulars in their student days!!

A Scottish man walked out from the blood transfusion place he went to for sixteen years to donate blood because he said the new questions were stupid.
They asked if he was pregnant!!
When my dad went to register his mother's death the insurance office asked if she had any children under sixteen.
She was 86 years old so no she did not.
Surely common sense could come into play with some of these questions and the person asking could just tick no!!

I need to walk the small hound now.
It used to be just Daisy here but we now have three new fur neighbours.
One is about six months the other two about eighteen months.
Daisers likes two of the pupsters but doesn't like the other one and wants to fight.
Despite it being a lot bigger than her now.
SDS you see, it's an affliction my Daisy has!!

Euthymol Toothpaste...
I like it because it leaves your choppers feeling fresh but I'm having trouble getting it these days in the shops so I ordered some on Amazon.
It's coming on Friday, I could have got it tomorrow but....
Remember what you have, those of you who are in a loving relationship with a warm roof over your and food to eat just remember - this is a very cold and brutal world, give your partner a cuddle and be glad.

You are so right, we should all appreciate what we have.
It may not be worldly goods or loving family, but anyone who is there for us when we are in need, they should be loved and appreciated too.

Yes Syl - people who have friends to count on are very lucky too - it must be wonderful. XXX
