Starmer has finally done something about the boats. The UK and France have joined forces in order to do so in a "one in, one out " migrant deal.
I was surprised but pleased to see the French president Macron say that the British public were "sold a lie" in the form of Brexit and it "achieved the opposite of what it promised" . I was shocked but really pleased someone has FINALLY said it as it is the reason that Britain couldn't make a deal regarding the small boats as there was no longer a potential return agreement with Europe.
Nigel Farage of course complained it was an insult to "Brexit Britain". But Brexit has ruined the economy and everyone is poorer for it. Considering he was one of the liars promising 2 million to the NHS if people voted Brexit (which has yet to materialise!) I'm surprised at his cheek and apparent amnesia.

Starmer is claiming the deal is 'groundbreaking', when in fact 'one in one out' means we will have exactly the same number of migrants, costing the same amount of money and using up the same amount of resources.
The only difference is that they will be legal migrants and not illegal ones.
It's only going to affect about 7 or 8% of illegals anyway, so hardly a deterrent. Illegals interviewed this morning in France all say they will just keep trying, even if they get sent back.
For this deal to be groundbreaking, it should be a minimum of France accepting say 10 or so illegals in return for them sending just a single legal here. Trust the idiot to think he has made a groundbreaking deal by agreeing to one in, one out.

What would/could France do if you just rounded them up, and dropped them off and the UK said our agreement with the people of the UK is the only agreement we care about??

If only it were that simple. It would probably start a war! You'd have all the human rights nonsense as well. Our PM is too much of a spineless gimp to do anything like that anyway, he's practically fist pumping this 1 in 1 out deal like it's some kind of major victory..
This new scheme is only going to involve 50 illegals per week, which is about 1 in 17 of the number arriving. So in fact it isn't 1 in 1 out, it's 16 in and 1 out, plus 1 additional legal migrant from France, so 17 > 1 is the real total.
Questions are already being asked about the legaility and practicality of it. For example, how fair would the selection process be? Which or the 17 illegals will be the unlucky one sent back? What will happen to them once back in France? And who will be selected in France as the lucky migrant being sent here?
The numbers are so small that it's not going to make any noticeable difference even if it got off the ground

Brexit was never fully implemented because our so called leaders didn't want us to leave and it's a complicated procedure. They never expected the silent majority to vote out. There's been negatives, because such a huge change was bound to cause problems. The UK has been able to negotiate and sign new trade deals with countries outside the EU which means greater flexibility to diverge from EU regulations and tailor our own rules to better suit specific needs and industries. EU legislation was crippling small businesses.
Brexit means we can pursue a more independent foreign policy and forge closer relationships with countries around the world, becoming a global player to engage with international partners on its own terms. Our problem is not Brexit. It's our weak leaders.
As for people being poorer, I see our pubs, restaurants and shops rammed in Manchester. I was in the Apple store a few days ago and the place was heaving. And we all know how pricey Apple is. Some people in the UK in 2025 have no idea of what it means to be really poor.

Almost as if to celebrate the stupidity of this deal, 600 more illegals turned up this morning.
Under Starmer's great plan of sending back 50 per week, it would take 3 months to send today's lot back alone.
Then in return, France would send us 600 legal asylum seekers. Starmer has said that taking in these legal asylum seekers is 'the right thing to do'
I'm not sure that 'groundbreaking' is the word that I would use to describe what has happened today.

I'm wondering why France is happy to take back the illegals who haven't been screened in return for those who have. Why would they be happy with the dregs and where will they go and who pays for them? Not much clarity.

Stammer given in. He's won nothing. He's so bloody weak. Up the frenches arse. He's got no idea, bloody idiot. He won't be happy til this country is over run with illegals.
We need to get rid.of these illegals, we need our country back! Only Reform can do this, but in four yrs, will we have a country, Stammers sold us down the river!
I was angry that charlie said he didn't want Brexit or words to that effect. How there's no borders between us a France. I thought he wasn't allowed to get involved with politics, our queen never.

I envy the US having Trump’s stance re the illegals. Yeah, there’s some resistance to it but bloody hell they seem to be rounding them up. For all he’s an idiot he’s got a backbone with this. All we get is limp-wristed “British citizen’s safety is a priority” and feck all done.

There will be a reason for them taking them back for sure, although it's not obvious just yet.
It could be something simple like it being beneficial to them to keep an illegal immigrant over a legal asylum seeker (cheaper accomodation, fewer rights etc).
I suspect though it's a more case of Macron buddying up to Starmer for favours futher down the line. The idiot's already given the EU extended fishing rights, and now that Macron has a besotted Starmer in his pocket, he is more likely to agree to other concessions.
Agreeing to the deal could be a small price to pay for France, but it could be that Macron knows the deal is dead in the water (pun intended) and will never happen anyway. It faces several political and legal hoops to jump through - it's subject to EU and maritime legislation, and several EU countries have already objected to the UK returning illegal immigrants.

Yes that will happen, as the legal migrants France are swapping with us will be selected due to having 'family connections' in the UK. So they will now have even bigger family connections, and it will snowball.
It will become a 'migrant lottery' and will attract even more migrants in the hope that they will be selected. "It could be you"
Also, if an illegal migrant is sent back multiple times and keeps coming back, a legal migrant will be sent to us for each attempt, so one illegal migrant could end up being worth several legal ones!
Macron knows that Starmer is deeply unpopular, and is desperate for a 'win', so it wouldn't have taken much to persuade him to agree to this deal, and is probably pissing himself laughing all the way back to Paris.
Of course Starmer has now made a complete fool of himself by claiming he has made a groundbreaking deal LoL.

I am not as pessimistic as you Mags. But if things carry on like they are, I do believe in several decades Muslims will outnumber the indigenous people of the UK.
Their laws and customs are already encroaching on ours, thanks to our pathetic leadership over the last 40 years.
Multiculturalism seemed like a good idea once, turns out it's not really working out fairly.
