There was a very telling clip on You Tube where an African American little girl was excited to see her favourite cartoon made into a film but when she saw Ariel her face was just confused. "Ariel has red hair," she told her mother" that's not Ariel. She's white!" If children of other ethnicities have no problem with their favourite Disney characters being white why do Disney?? I agree there should be ethnic diversity in modern films and drama for both children and adults but changing old classics to suit a woke agenda won't enrich a film. That little girl saw Ariel was white in the orignal and it didn't diminish her at all. because unlike the pearl clutchers she was seeing a character , not colour.

There are so many roles where race doesn't matter, but it's pretty dumb to reverse a role when it's race specific just to be 'inclusive'.
I would say that in the case of Snow White, where the original story says 'she has skin as white as snow' that a pale skinned actress should play the part.
It's like having a characeter called Ebony Black 'so called because her skin was as black as the night' and getting Meryl Streep to play her.

You might be able to get away with 'artistic licence' in an indie arthouse movie with an audience full of pretentious luvvies, but it's an insult to the general public to reverse race specific roles in blockbuster movies and TV shows.

It's impossible to add anything to MLK's story by having a white actor play him....obviously his struggle was in part because he was NOT white.
But swapping and changing an actual persons colour 'for artistic licence' is as ridiculous as having a male play a historic female character.

The fictional character James Bond, Ian Fleming described Bond as Scottish, white, tall, blue eyed, black hair, and having the facial features resembling American singer and actor Hoagy Carmichael.
Having said that, I was hoping that the next Bond would be played by Idris Elba, he would have made a great Bond. Sadly he is getting a bit old for the part now...though 'artistic licence' could be bent this way too.

I would say with historical characters it's an absolute no-no to change the race (or sex) for film or TV. Fictional characters, not so much, unless race is specified and is an important part of that character, and I would say being called Snow White (the clue's in the name) makes it very much specified. If I were casting, I wouldn't just be looking for a white actress but a very pale one - maybe someone with Tilda Swinton's colouring, but younger and prettier.
The Brothers Grimm described SW as 'Skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony' - that's quite a specific colour combo and gives her a unique look, and I don't think it should be disregarded in the remake
I've nothing against Zegler - the link Maddog put up says she's going to play Eva Peron next - a role she is far more suited to imo - good luck to her! But Snow White, nah!
