 The cruelty is reveling in their misery over being deported and using social media content to do so.  

There are some violent offenders who have been rounded up and sent back to their country of origin. There are also many people who have lived in the US peacefully, and have no victims at their hands, have friends and family who love them and will miss them dearly in the US, have no real connection with their country of origin and will struggle tremendously. High fiving each other because life has they know it has been ripped away from them because they are in a group labelled illegal immigrants is obviously cruel and callous. 

In addition it is clearly a divisive tactic which will polarise an already divided American society even further.

You may see it as revelling, many will no doubt see it as proof that the law is being upheld by someone who promised to look out for and protect the interests of law abiding citizens.

Peacefully maybe, legally no. Many cases of them living there year after year not learning to speak English, not applying for legal status, working yet not paying taxes, large families using resources without putting anything back into the kitty etc. Why should hard working, law abiding citizens tolerate that?

They were also offered financial incentives to self-deport but chose not to. By being in the country illegally they were breaking the law. Should those breaking the law be given a free pass?

Yes it’s sad for their innocent kids but who has put them in that position? The illegals alone jeopardised their kid’s future.

I take the point however. If we allow exceptions to illegal immigrant it creates perverse incentives. It will make it worth taking the risk of entering the country illegally rather than using legal routes (and demoralise people who decide to play it by the book.)

Taking away an established life in one country and making a person move to a country they do not have any real connection with anymore does cause suffering, both to the person concerned and to the people who love them who remain in the country.

 Doing something illegal isn't risk free, and they would have known there would always be a chance of getting caught and deported. You could look at it from the glass half full angle and say they enjoyed X number of years living in the US that they weren't entitled to, rather than being half empty and rueing the future years that they will miss out on. Nothing's stopping the people who may love them from joining them.

Exceptional cases to me, that would allow an illegal to remain, would be something like someone undergoing life saving medical treatment that they would otherwise die without, or maybe someone who has performed an act of heroism for the good of the community, but they would be very rare instances.

I also see him as a buffoon in general but re illegals (and the trans issue) I admire his stance.

We agreed on a fair bit on DS (and Dogs) and even had a laugh or two via PMs but we‘ll have to agree to disagree on this but no worries.

 I've never got the fuss about Sydney Sweeney in the first place so I have no idea what all the fuss is about now with her jeans commercial. Just looks like a standard advert to me.

Sure, there have always been a small amount of people with extreme views but what is concerning is how open these views are on social media, how prevalent amongst young people they are online and how they are bleeding into everyday life.

Some of the stuff on that Jubilee debate was bog standard racism that I remember from the 70s and 80s. Getting a round of applause when you say you are a fascist? I don't remember it being that bad, ever. There are posts on Twitter right now saying how cool Nazi fashion was and how Hitler had the right idea. Maybe we can put some of that down to trolling but it is very noticeable.

The BIB is very true. If people of a woke agenda object to every little thing that "might" be viewed as fascist or racist then the actual instances of real fascism get lost amongst all the noise.

She is an attractive blonde with blue eyes so her "good g/jenes" pertain to her being attractive,not her race. She is not stating that people of other ethnicities cannot be attractive. Woke culture is going too far when other races try to silence white people because it is the "privileged" race. It isn't , especially in the media.

If an attractive black lady had done this advert with black jeans nobody would be bothered by the play on words,in fact it would be celebrated. So it's not the advert or the play on words  that is the problem. 

I know some people seemed genuinely offended and worried by the advert as if it was a sneaky way to.being white supremacy through the back door..I don't think that's true with this one advert but I suspect the President himself does approve and agree with these values.

Therefore my only tiny reservation is that the selling point of  this company is that it is American and I suspect Trump himself considers white to be superior. I wonder if the advertising and media messaging will change under Trump 's regime. Time will tell.

It's like when people complain there are no white people in adverts anymore. I'm guessing it's not exactly the one number topic of conversation in the pub over the weekend...

 American Eagle are laughing all the way to the bank. Sales have skyrocketed - helped by those who bought the jeans just to burn them, allegedly, in protest (they really are sending their best ). Reminds me of the HPotter gloomers who burned JKR’s books not twigging that she had already had their money regardless.
