“UK PM Keir Starmer says Britain will recognize “Palestine” by September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire.”
Update on this…
“Some of Britain's most distinguished lawyers have warned the government that recognising a Palestinian state would breach international law.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced the UK would move towards recognition unless Israel met certain conditions, including agreeing a ceasefire and reviving the prospect of a two-state solution, earlier this week.
Opponents argue Palestine does not meet the legal requirements for statehood under international law set out in the Montevideo Convention.
However, business minister Gareth Thomas defended the plans, saying the UK had not signed up to the Convention, and adding that 147 of the UN's 193 members already formally recognise a Palestinian state.
The Montevideo Convention sets out the criteria for the recognition of a state under international law as a defined territory, a permanent population, an effective government and the capacity to enter into relations with other states.
A group of 43 peers, including some of the UK's most eminent lawyers, has set out their belief that Sir Keir's pledge could be in breach of international law as the territory may not meet these criteria for statehood.” Source: BBC News.
Isn’t Starmer supposedly a legal bod himself? Then again this is a bloke confused with basics like biological sex.

Holy fucking shit that man is so stupid he makes Goofy look like Einstein! Five hundred years ago he'd have been called Keir Wantwit or Sir Ninnyhammer. Don't you just love those Olde Englishe words

One good thing Starmer has achieved is not all MP's will be groomed to.be in politics from birth like the upper class Eton clones like Johnson and Cameron.. More civil servants will be people who know what it is to be working class and will understand the electorate more. So parliament won't be all toffs totally out of touch in future. This hasn't been well documented because the right are largely in charge of the media and anything Starmer does that does hold merit you can be sure we won't hear about.
Owen Jones said that lobbyists and "think tanks" basically tell MP's what to do or face the consequences. The majority of the media is right wing and they control what the country talks about. People distracted by small boats won't be thinking about the growing amount of working homeless who have been working yet sleeping on the tube for over three years.
I know your opinion on Jeremy I like him because he wants to help those in working poverty and at least he cares about people. He did very well to win as an Independent in Finsbury Park and has a lot of support. I know you didn't like His clothing but I find the eccentric professor look rather endearing. I don't expect ANYONE to agree with me !

Yes, that made no sense.
I don't know what is wrong with this man. Footage leaked four years ago had a confident Starmer saying that Labour should stop trying to appease the right who won't vote for them anyway and should embrace their core left values.
He was right! So why has he turned Labour into "Blue Labour" and approving of the most sickening welfare cuts for pensioners?? He must be very badly advised but where is his BACKBONE? He is trying to retain the voters who made a protest vote by voting for Labour in the last election but they won't do that again, it will be Tories or Reform.
But the lack of logic and basic knowledge in this press release is bizarre considering he used to be a human rights lawyer..I genuinely think all the pressure is getting to him.

😂 With the caveat that I’m too out of the loop to really understand what’s going on with UK politics these days, I’ll put it this way:
From what I can recall from back in the day, I viewed Corbyn as a toxic little man. If I’d noticed his grungy scruffy arse lurking around outside a Starbucks, I would have tried to chuck a couple of ££ into his coffee cup.
Also, a very hard pass on Jones. Way too performative Loony Left for me, I’m afraid….(and that voice 😳 - sheesh! 😖)
Sorry, but you did ask! 🤷🏻♀️

Just saw this Vam. I don't like Corbyn he's as bad. Friends with the IRA, back in the day, Communist too.
I'm voting Reform, there's no one else left. Our only hope I think. 🤔
Reform is the only way to vote because even if you can't stand Farage the whole system needs to be broken apart and reset. It might then make the other two parties up their game and realise that the people have spoken.

That's fine, I asked you for your opinion and your response made me laugh! I too am a "Looney Leftie" which I have kept under wraps in.the interests of rapport when I joined as I believe I'm the only left wing member. Avon may be more centre left from what I've seen from his responses but obviously I don't know for sure. I respect everyone's political beliefs and hope people can respect mine.
You may not like Owen 's voice but he's forty ! What face cream does he use, he looks 25. His detractors try to use it against him in arguments but then admit they want to know his secret..!
Would you mind telling me (and I won't take things personally, I'm genuinely interested) what about left wing values you don't like? All I personally want is the homeless to be homed and those in poverty to be helped and left wing parties are more likely to agree with these sentiments. I think there should be a wealth tax.People on minimum wage working all day and still needing to resort to food banks is wrong to me.
I do concede immigration is a problem. People fear there will be more riots like last summer in the UK. There could have been a lot of fatalities if those rioting hadn't been so (thankfully) inept. I do agree with those on the right that the immigration situation cannot remain the way it is. Labour is not a left wing party either(not presently), they are Tory Lite and that's not working for them.
I worry people will not acknowledge me because my political views do not align with theirs so thanks for showing me that's not the case.

I’m sceptical of all politicians and tend to stay away from politics but the immigration issue has made my blood boil lately. Rupert Lowe is very vocal about booting them out. I’m quite liking the cut of his jib atm. He used to be in “Reform” but was suspended then went onto “Restore Britain”.
He may be BSing like the rest, talks cheap after all, but at least he’s listening to his constituents and is seen to be trying at least.
A joint letter from the Leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council…

Sorry Mags, I didn't know about this. Has Corbyn said he agrees with the IRA?? If so, to say I'm not impressed would be an understatement.
He was voted to be Labour Leader so that genuinely shocks me. He's an older chap that's been in politics for a long time so I don't know what he was up to prior becoming PM. I only know I agreed with his views when he was Labour Leader.

If she wants to wear it and it really IS her choice, then who am I to tell her what to wear? I don't think Muslim women wear the face coverings in their homes when feeding their babies thankfully. I hope not at least.

Numbers of illegals being thrown at us every day can just become numbers in our mind.
This is an image of 1000 soldiers (I’ll take the photographer’s word as I haven’t counted). Now DUPLICATE that pic and look at them side by side, the 2 pics give the number that came here last week alone. That’s 2000 men of fighting age that were helped onto our shores.
EACH PERSON in those 2 pics is unvetted, is being housed, fed, possibly clothed, being given approx £45-£50 per week “pocket money”, tended to by dentists/NHS/opticians and the likes, been given phones or at least paid for calls to their homeland, have police protection when needed…
TLDR : Last week the equivalent of 2 battalions (UK army) landed unvetted.

iirc didn’t protests get a u-turn on poll tax (or similar) a few years back?
