I mentioned what happened to me inside the forum at the time.
I made my booking and paid the deposit and half an hour later i got an email off the bloke who owned the place telling me he was fully booked for that weekend and i would have to cancel.
So i did and then i got a message off Tripadvisor telling me i was only entitled to half my deposit because i had cancelled within 30 days of making the booking.
I remember you writing about that, so did you only ever get half your deposit back?
Surely, as it wasn't your fault, the full deposit should have been returned.
What we tend to do is scour the internet, find somewhere we like, then book through a reputable travel agent, you see to have more protected rights if anything goes wrong...and they always match the price that we have seen on the internet.
I finally got it all back Syl when I finally managed to get through to an actually person and explain what had happened.
It was outrageous saying I would lose out when TripAdvisor were at fault.
I've not been away since before I lost my Jack, I took him with me the last time and it was booked in person at the travel agents.
I'll be doing the same this time.
I've got to take Shorty because i worry otherwise. Just like when I was in hospital after that ulcer burst.

i don't have much faith in TripAdvisor.
Never booked through them, but used to write a lot of reviews from my own personal experience.
Before lockdown we went to a hotel in Spain...possibly the worst one I have ever been to. I wrote an honest review and they refused to publish it....haven't read or wrote on there since.

I would never use TripAdvisor ever again Syl. I should have read the reviews about them first and it seems lots of people have had the same problem as you. Genuine reviews about places are removed even though all proper guidelines are followed.

Mine wasn't even published Vita.
Trying to contact them and get a response was impossible. I wrote a second review, all honest comments that I could back up, once more it wasn't published and no reason given.
Every other review of mine, mostly good, a few more critical, went in straight away. It seems when it comes to more serious complaints, they are too scared to publish, which gives a false impression of a hotel.

Amazon are very picky with their reviews as well Syl. I've had some refused for no reason.
I tried to publish a review that said the dog bowl was broken when it arrived and one sheet of poor quality bubblewrap was ridiculous and despite trying a few times they wouldn't do it.
The even asked me to sent the bowl back for a refund.

I've written some scathing reviews on Trip Advisor and they've all been published.

Maybe they are picky about what is being complained about.
Bed bugs and racism, maybe, is a step too far.
Even if we could back up our complaints...which we could and did....they refused to publish.

I'm going to start reading "Let Him Have Justice" by Iris Bentley.
I've read it before but it's seventy years next Saturday since her brother Derek was executed.
There's a report about it in my True Crime magazine this month.
The Execution that shamed British Justice.
Four words that are immortal...
LET HIM HAVE IT

Robert Maudsley has set a world record for the number of days spent in solitary confinement.
He murdered a man in England in 1974 and after his conviction he has killed another three men.
One in a secure hospital and two in prison.
He killed the first man in 1974 after the man showed him child porn of pictures of Children he had abused.
In prison in 1977 him and another prisoner locked themselves inside a cell and tortured a convicted child molester over nine hours.
Then in 1978 he killed another two prisoners in one day.
He had wanted to kill seven prisoners.
Robert Maudsley claims he's only a threat to sex offenders.
He's deemed too dangerous for a normal cell and is kept in a glass cage similar to the one in 'Silence Of The Lambs'
His request for a pet Budgie has also been refused.
The Nazis killed Czeslawa Kwoka, a Polish Catholic girl, in 1943 at Auschwitz. According to the photographer, before this photograph was taken, the girl dried her tears and the blood from the cut on her lip.

I looked at that picture and got very sad. Then very irate.
This shit is where my political ideology comes from. I'm anti authoritarian as hell. I don't care if you're left or right leaning just don't be authoritarian leaning. Leave people alone amd stop supporting politicians who won't do the same. While she amd millions other are an extreme example of authoririanism run amuck, we see less egregious examples all of the time "for the good of blah, blah, blah"..
Right wing Nazis followed by Left Wing commies had perfectly good explanations (in their fucked up minds) for for doing what they did to Eastern Europeans .
Through brainwashing or intimidation they got large numbers of their people to accept their madness.
We have to stay ever vigilant. Humans are still the same creatures.

He'll be seventy later this year.
Maybe even an award or two..😉
I watched "Code of a Killer" Alec Jeffreys discovery was probably one of the most important of the last 100 years.
It's the anniversary of the Bard's birth today and we will be remembering our much loved poet with Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties.
