Hobbit is so full of herself that she announced in the Flounce thread that the admin can see your postcode in the IP checking software. So not only is she sharing that around, she outs hidden members and deletes any posts questioning the legality of all of that. Members and guests be very wary, your privacy is being compromised big style.

My IP swaps and changes all the time, even when I am posting from the same location.
Much as I don't like guest posting, the fact is Dogs has always thrived on it.....threaten the guests (who are probably 99% members anyway) and you are threatening the forum....imho.

I saw "Dogs" mentioned a lot on DS and then someone posted a link. I read the Dogs Forum for a while but unless you know the posters and what happened on past forums, it seems to be the same arguments over and over ...
I don't believe that the IP does show a post code and even if it did, why would an owner or moderator of a site be boasting about it?

You can't trace a postcode by an IP address. Sites like IP2Location can give you an approximation, but they cannot pinpoint you to exactly where you stay.
In addition a lot of IP addresses, like mine, actually point at the data centre of the business (e.g. Sky, Virgin, BT etc) which could be in another region of the UK entirely. Mine resolves to 15 miles away from where I actually live.
When Google were driving through your street to build their Street View they *did* hoover up a lot of IP addresses to build up their Google Maps location trace service ( see: www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/22/google_streetview_logs_wlans/ ), but that information is not publicly available and even if it was, unless you're using the same router from 8 years ago, you will have nothing to worry about.
You *can* trace someone to where they work, if they post from work using their works internet connection. As a lot of people post using mobile phones & 4G these days (including me) then the chances of being traced are slim. The cops can trace you, but I doubt anyone on Dogs can.
If anyone keeps up this pish of tracing, I will roast them. I hope the mods are not trying to scare posters with potential doxing. I can see data protection act issues. And aye, I just sat a GDPR test as part of my job.

The program is illegal to use in the vast majority of countries unless you belong to a government agency, even then it has to go through the courts.
This program is available vis the Dar Web. I have access to it and it makes me laugh quite a bit when some posters
claim to be on holiday or live in certain parts of the country world, but in fact in the uk and normally a poorer part of the UK
Having said the above, if I was to make the data public, I could be jailed, fined at the very least.
ISP's are trying to safeguard private IP's but those with the skills and access to this program can not just gain the exact postcode but to within 20 meters of the exact location.
(NB, works, large org IP's can be easily traced and do not require and y special skills, but the company is the only one that can pinpoint it to a computer.)
If you think you can be located even when using a proxy - give it to me in writing and electronic signature and on Sunday with your full consent i will post the name of your street/postcode but not the 20 meters location.

You'd need a vector into BT, Sky, Virgin etc. to get the current user. Or the police computer, which would make you a target for the security services - did you post here using a proxy? If not, you've fucked up really badly!!!
The only way without hacking to get a real postal address is to get the IP, which you asked for, phone the company involved and use social engineering, supplying the name and electronic signature which you also asked for, to get an address.
