Latest piss off moment at the homestead....the bath has leaked and water has come through the kitchen ceiling....OH didn't even notice, or hear the loud drip drip drips that I noticed even before I opened the door.
instead of calling a plumber, OH is 'fixing it' himself....and has been doing it for the last 4 hours.
Oh...and the 6ft Christmas tree we planted out 40 years ago in the back garden, seems it has outgrown it's space and the roots are coming up (alarmingly so) in the back garden, so we may have to have it chopped down.
Can you not trim the roots back? Plenty of articles online Syl explaining how to do it safely ie not damaging the tree itself.

A tub leak should be fixable, I’m sure. Still a pain in the ass, though.
But your beautiful tree that you guys decorate and light up each Christmastime? 😔 That’s very sad, and it would be a real shame to have to cut it down. Can you get a tree surgeon in, to see if it could be preserved?
Hopefully it'll be fixable Vam, though I think when this leak is fixed, we will go ahead and get the whole bathroom renfitted...this was a sign it's needed.
I am more upset about my beautiful tree. We pulled this home on a sledge in the snow, over the fields, more than 40 years ago.
It's part of us, grandson made a tree den up there when he was young, so many memories.
It's not the one we light up every Christmas, that one is at the front. This one is just as special to me.

We will get a tree surgeon to look at it before we do anything, but the roots are encroaching quite near the house, and we have only recently noticed that when we were digging down recently.

Plumber came, I got his number from a Trustatrader recommendation site.
He came when he said he would, looked at what my OH had done to try to fix the leak, and said actually he had done it all right, apart from cross threading some fixture which still allowed the leak, and still allowed the water to come through the kitchen ceiling. So, the plumber fixed that, ran a bath full of water, no leaks.
Charge....a coffee and a couple of biscuits.
He does complete bathroom fittings, also plastering of ceilings, so I think I know who I will be calling when we decide on a new bathroom suite.

Yep, apart from the cross threading, he did it right....are you trying to make me feel bad?
And also yep, he was a lovely plumber, and I will recommend him to everyone who needs a job done, including us in the near future.

We had a leak under the bath some time ago. It took two plumbers to put it right because the original fitter had superglued the threads!!!! The first guy spent over an hour fruitlessly trying to fix it. The second guy was a seasoned old timer who we left to it as we sat downstairs. There was a lot of "You fucking Twat" and "Fucking Bastard" and even a "Come on, you cunting fucker!" But he got it done in under an hour.

I only ever swear like that when I'm cooking Chinese and having a wok crisis
"For example, when one person says “I like Chinese more than Pizza”, and the respondent says “Well, you must hate Pizza”, they have created a strawman. The first person never said they hated pizza. They have been misrepresented."
Let's try another example of my own design..
"One person says they think affirmative action is a bad idea and all decisions should be based on merit alone..The respondent says 'why do you hate black people'?"

Well that's not what the "one person" said" nor is it how the respondent ( or public) responded. If you are being non specific anyone hung up about affirmative action in 2025 is worrying about nothing. POC have qualifications now.
