So Trump is threatening to take away benefits from innocent people during the shut down just to get back at the Democrats that oppose him??
Vam, is this accurate? The man is horrible. He really is.
Trump threatened Democrats on Tuesday that the federal government could “do things during the shutdown that are irreversible . . . medically and other ways, including benefits, we can cut large numbers of people,” warning the GOP was prepared to blame Democrats for the permanent reductions and predicting a shutdown is “probably likely” but not “inevitable.”
Er, no. Benefits for ordinary citizens I assumed anon. Anybody can be working and then have an accident and need sick pay. I assumed he was talking about standard benefits he didn't really elaborate..if you know more about it than I please do tell. Illegal migrants are not eligible for healthcare benefits in America anyway although I have noticed they use the term "illegal aliens" to dehumanise these people further . How is the term "Alien," acceptable really?
What was odd was how he seemed to be holding the Democrats to ransom and blaming them inferring that if he did cut benefits it was their fault for not complying to his whims.
He is scrapping the Obama health care system in any event, I have heard. The costs of American healthcare are shocking even with Medicaid.

But he is threatening to cut Medicaid also, he wants to get rid of all the legislation that Obama created that many people with lower wages rely on.
The guy's a billionaire backed by billionaires, yet your country is in debt? Have you considered he is only concerned about his own personal wealth, he is meant to care about the American economy and electorate.
Illogical of you to say people receiving benefits need a "nanny", they may have worked all their life and became ill and couldn't afford the huge medical bills in your country. If they have contributed and paid taxes why shouldn't they get benefits when in need?
Nothing illogical about pointing out our incredibly fucked up fiscal situation.
What's illogical is to think we can keep doing what we have been doing.
What's illogical is to whine like a little girl instead of realizing very difficult cuts must be made for the future of the country.
But don't worry (I dont know why you do anyway), Trump never really cuts anything. It's all bluster..
And, Medicaid should be cut. And it's not for people over 65 either..

Not according to the taxpayer 's complaining on YouTube. I think the cost of living (and all the flipping tariffs,)must be hurting the less well off electorate by now.
Why should Medicaid be cut in your opinion?
I know you're fond of quotes so this one springs to mind Madders- I think it's relevant when considering cutting something essential like Medicaid.
"The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members."

Medicaid should be cut for people who won't try to get work because we are 37 trillion in debt.
We need massive cuts in spending. Only those who can't support themselves should be supported. The disabled, children and the elderly.
And society is not the same as government..

What Trump should have done is explain how poor leadership from the government had made their job more difficult and their ability to wage war compromised, and that he was going to change that.
But Trump doesn't know how to motivate.
Military leaders understand the concept of breaking down soldiers through insults and flat out degradation. But the second part of the process is to build them up. Trump doesn't get that.
He should have made it quite clear that the generals (for the most part) aren't the reason we have fat soldiers far from combat readiness. That is mostly a political problem. The military should never be about inclusiveness buy exclusivity.
I think the bigger problem is that it now looks to America's enemies that the CIC of the US Military does not command the respect or confidence of the US Military.
That gave me the only small glimmer of hope since his re-election.

/\ Much as I can't stand him, he is right when he says no country can afford to medically treat people who are illegal and people who have never contributed.
The proof of that is the state of our own NHS, every department I ever go in is 90% foreign patients waiting to be seen....and that's a conservative estimate.

Yes he does speak wise at times.
I agree with him, same as Reform wants to do here. We can't keep supporting those who who are illegal, have never contributed and stay on benefits the whole time.

Me neither but I have to admit he’s trying to do right by his fellow Americans and that’s how it should be...can’t fault him for that. He’s got a backbone which the entire UK Govt combined couldn’t match.

This is the problem with judging policy based on who supports it.
Trump is disagreeable, unpleasant human being that isn't always wrong..
Of course when he's right, he's also likely to change his mind in10 minutes.
Unless he's obsessed about something, which is another one of his problems.

I think he is right to control immigration and send back illegals already there.
But will the money that's saved on dr's and hospital treatment lower people's medical bills, or will medical insurance still be out of reach for many US citizens?

In theory, if you don't have to treat people who never pay their bills, hospitals can lower the cost to people who do..
Medical insurance isn't out of reach for citizens. They get it free or subsidized if they are poor (or even middle class).
Illegal aliens don't qualify for Medicaid or subsidies. I don't know if they can even buy insurance. I doubt most could afford it anyway. Not at full price without subsidies.
That's why they just go to the hospital, get a bill and never pay it. That cost gets passed along to the rest off us..
Sort of like that lady that hit my truck yesterday. Law says she must carry auto insurance to drive. But there are so many other fun things to spend that money on.
She didn't carry any so me and my insurance company will be paying to fix my truck..🤷

We have national guard troops being deployed in areas where ICE is facing a great deal of hostility.
No doubt these are in areas run by folks that dislike Trump, and in areas where most people didn't vote for Trump. It's Trump flexing on people he doesn't like..
They are also in areas you probably wouldn't want to walk through at night. However, I don't think federal troops are the answer because I sort of believe that if you want to live in a shit hole, so be it. Keep doing what you have been doing in the election booth.

MD …. ‘We have national guard troops being deployed in areas where ICE is facing a great deal of hostility.’
You have National Guard troops deployed because the hostility ICE is facing is due to the fact that most of these ICE agents are untrained, violent, out-of-shape LARPing thugs. Most of them aren’t even bona fide federal employees.
You also have National Guard troops unnecessarily deployed purely for the performative headline-grabs because there are no widespread - let alone violent - protests to be seen. Anywhere. He‘s just determined to make it a ‘thing’.
Lastly, and as I’ve predicted several times, you have National Guard troops deployed because trump wants Americans acclimatised to seeing on-call troops within their communities. Then, he‘ll manufacture yet another ‘crisis’ and deploy them again when he tries to cancel the midterm elections next year.

So there is hostility, no violence, but clashes.
I guess it all depends on your definition of those words.
I'm sure the folks at the Dallas ICE facility considered those 8mm rounds ventilating their van and building as a form of violence.

Fair enough. But that really is the first time I’ve seen some serious stuff going down.
Isolated incidents of escalation here and there, I guess 🤷🏻♀️ What I’ve mostly seen is peaceful protests - often maybe a couple of dozen people, at most. Or I’ve seen military personnel simply strolling through calm neighbourhoods.
You know damn well the situation is not at all as ‘scorched earth’ as trump exaggerates and gaslights it to be.
