"Responding to Sir Keir's comments, Reform UK's Zia Yusuf said: "Labour's message to the country is clear: pay hundreds of billions for foreign nationals to live off the state forever, or Labour will call you racist."
"Reform's plan will ensure only British people can access welfare and that migrants contribute to society."
So, basically, he's saying that ID's will ensure no illegals can work, despite the fact that they can't legally work here anyway until fully processed. Also, how do they know who to ID when they chuck their ID into the sea. And if, as he's saying, it's immoral and racist to get rid of them all, and they can't work, they're all going to be on benefits further draining the coffers and resources and putting us all into terrible financial woes. How much further can he push the patience of this nation?

I think the more pertinent question is....how much worse can he do?
We've been told over and over by France not to make this country so attractive to illegals. Farage is hoping to do that. How does that demonise him?

I can‘t stand the guy, Diggs. He’s a wannabe trump, imv - full of hot air, but little else of any substance.
But I really DO get why he’s a viable possibility for PM right now. Like trump, he’s campaigning on a guaranteed vote-winner - immigration.
My question is, other than immigration reform, what else can he offer?

No political party has ever delivered everything they promised in their manifesto, but Farage will be an upgrade on Starmer no matter how many of his promises he delivers.
Obviously immigration is the biggie, and we can expect radical changes, which as you say, will be enough by itself to win over the man in the street. Everything else will be a bonus.
I like this promise:
"Within the first 100 days of government, it pledges to ban what it calls “transgender ideology” in primary and secondary schools. It says this would mean no gender questioning, social transitioning or pronoun swapping in schools, and that parents would be informed about children’s life decisions.
Reform UK also promises to replace the Equality Act and says it would scrap diversity, equality and inclusion rules."
There's also other things like tax cuts for small businesses, scrapping net zero, rasing the stamp duty threshold, scrapping the TV licence, removing Britain from the ECHR (human rights) - all things that will appeal to the man in the street.
It remains to be seen as to whether Farage will make a good PM or not, but as things stand, he has to be given the chance.

I‘m totally onboard with that BIB! A fence post would be of more use than Sir Keir.
So much of the rest of his manifesto is straight out of the trump playbook, imv - ie, the focus on transgender and DEI issues.
But you’re right. Give the guy a chance, I guess… 🤷🏻♀️

The ID cards will prevent illegals from working legally - which is completely pointless as they will just continue working illegally for cash in hand like they have always done. It will be as much of a deterrent as the 'one in one out' deal is, ie not a deterrent at all.
Meanwhile, he's still blaming everything on the Tories (yawn) and banging on about racism!

Genuine question. Can you list the actual negativities associated with Trump's and Farage's policies. Not that you don't like them as people but what it is that makes them bad politicians.
My philosophy is you don't have to like a leader so long as they hold the public interests at heart.
So far, all I can see of Trump is that he got a grip of what the people of America actually wanted him to do. m

I‘ve said many times that I’m out of the loop with what’s happening in the UK‘s political arena. The only platform where I’m gradually learning more about it, is here at the Whine.
Other than his stance on immigration, I don’t know enough about Farage’s proposed policies to comment. What I’m absolutely convinced of though, is that he’s a braying blowhard and an opportunist. Like trump, he seems to be enacting the politics of spectacle.
I really do hope I’m wrong and, if elected, he’ll prove to be a competent PM overall.
My answer re trump - how long have you got?! I‘ll @You in the other thread about his policies, rather than take this thread too far off-topic

The Royal Parks have rejected Nigel Farage’s claims that migrants are killing and eating swans from their grounds.
The Reform UK leader suggested that eastern European migrants are taking swans from Royal Parks and carp from ponds across the UK to eat.
I've cut and pasted this because the actual page is locked for non paying members in the Mail.
Sky One’s Emergency Animal Rescue programme filmed the welfare officer visiting the Romanian family at their home, where she discovered the meat and bones of an unknown bird simmering in a cooking pot.
As the officer inspects the contents of the casserole pot, she says: ‘You see the bones in this bird, because it’s not a chicken... I’m a bit concerned.’
The footage also shows the officer retrieving white feathers and a distinctly swan-like beak from a bin in the back garden.
The clip was recently reposted on social media by, among others, Turning Point UK, a British offshoot of the Right-wing American student pressure group run by the recently assassinated Charlie Kirk, where it has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
It reported in 2003, just as mass migration from the EU was beginning to increase, that at least 100 swans had gone missing from stretches of water in East London, including the River Lea.
A ‘strong line of inquiry’ was that they had been stolen for food, according to Scotland Yard.
Ten years later it was clear that the problem had not gone away, with the prestigious Time magazine running a piece under the headline: ‘Someone is kidnapping and eating Britain’s swans.’
The incidents in question occurred at Lincoln’s iconic Brayford Pool, where the city’s swans have nested for centuries.
Time’s colourful dispatch revealed: ‘Witnesses told investigating officers that they saw a team of five men attacking one of the snowy white birds with a nail-studded implement.’
In the succeeding days, a further three carcasses were recovered.
Seven months after that outbreak of swan-related violence, there was an even more graphic story in London’s Evening Standard newspaper.
‘Queen’s swan “killed, barbecued, eaten and dumped on riverbank”,’ blared the headline.
‘It was just a carcass, it was all burnt,’ Wendy Hermon, 46, of the charity Swan Lifeline was quoted as saying. ‘We could see that whoever did this had taken the breast out. It was done neatly, presumably to get at the meat.
‘They had skinned it as well and possibly barbecued it there, on a disposable barbecue.’ When the Covid pandemic struck in 2020 – and many people found themselves in straitened circumstances – there was a spike in the number of similar incidents.
Attacks on swans, ducks and geese, with a range of weapons ranging from air guns to fireworks, soared by 59 per cent, according to The Times.
Now, I’m not for one moment suggesting that dozens of these majestic beasts are being snatched from British lakes and rivers on a daily basis. And it is true that many reports make no reference to the nationalities of offenders due to a lack of eyewitnesses.
.But for Nigel Farage’s detractors to pretend that no migrants have ever engaged in poaching of wildfowl or fish is, at the very least, presumptuous.
Two years later, the Evening Standard reported that an angler on London’s River Lea came across a man – whose accent suggested he was an Eastern European immigrant – in a makeshift tent cooking his evening meal surrounded by the bodies of slaughtered swans.
One of the earliest reports about swans disappearing appeared in, of all places, The Guardian newspaper, that favourite of paid-up members of the metropolitan elite.
In politics and the right wing media ? Of course there is. !Immigrants are not eating bloody swans..this is the same narrative Trump used. Maybe one group of people did one day one year, and that is being used as misinformation to say "ALL immigrants do this.." How do you know the men above were immigrants, if the story was even true? If it was, it was certainly exaggerated. Certain people, not you, but others in society actually want this story to be true or , don't care of its true or not as long as it casts doubt in voters minds, it's job is done. The video I have put up explains succinctly how the right press con people. I would skip to one minute.
If we leave the European Courts of Human Rights we will be on!y one of 3 countries, Russia and Belarus. That's right Russia. Because other countries ,unlike us, value their right to freedom, maternity pay, ,sick.pay, their right to having a minimum wage etc. They are not just the rights of immigrants that bill covers, it is OUR rights.
Of course it may need reform The bill, I mean. But is Farage saying like Yvette Cooper that the ECHR needs to be reformed about immigration but we must keep it because it's essential to well, being free? Nope. He is perfectly happy to take away our freedom, have us stuck in a club of 3 with Russia and Belarus. Nobody will trade with us, we are so far right we are off the Globe. We are Turkeys voting for Christmas, a laughing stock. And he has told the British public we will be paying to send women and female children back to the Taliban, and Farage voter's don't care. When other countries learn of this they will say we reaped what we sew. We will be isolated from the rest of the West ffs, nobody has left the ECHR except Russia!!!

The allegations are supported in part by the dodgy dealings around the Dunblane shooting. It was obvious enough that Heath was as queer as a three pound note. Mandelson's liking for his Brazilian boy's bottom is known worldwide. Not all the allegations are necessarily true but there are hot embers visible under the cloud of smoke.
I have my doubts about Tony 'Miranda' Blair, amusing though it may be to think of it.
The cover ups of Cyril Smith, Saville, and to a lesser extent Rolf Harris and others...so many people knew what they were doing, and so many people, including the BBC, police, child care authorities, and in the case of Saville, so many NHS workers, from nurses upwards, al kept quiet for years, decades even.
That's what I don't understand.
Because when people are so famous or important people won't say a word against them, no matter how wrong what they say or do may be.
If that person has all the fame or.power they command respect..and in.those days people would have not been.believed if they dared speak up about Saville and his ilk. The culture at the time even endorsed his behaviour to an extent.Saville put his hands up a young teenager's skirt live on Top of the Pops and she jumps. The BBC aired that and the cameraman must have known what he had done. . But pinching girls bums was allowed back then, I believe, but that girl.was still too young even then.
It's all about what culture says is permitted at the time. The stuff Kirk said about "prowling blacks" would not have been allowed ten years ago. .ditto years ago this immigrants chomping on swans narrative (who are NOT wildlife you want to mess with) would have been waay off limits. Political.correctness did go too far and covered up.a lot of wrong doing including the grooming gangs. What we are seeing now is a backlash to that, where there is a lack of tact and accuracy in freedom of speech pertaining to immigrants.
I cannot stand aspects of the Muslim culture that controls women and have no problem seeing men who arrive via small boats who have committed crimes here being sent on their way. Farage paying the Taliban to take back female refugees knowing they will be tortured at best, killed at worst is something else again.
If Reform do get in there will be riots ,what there should be is a referendum.
I don't want my human rights being removed thankyou very much and nor do all the Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, Green, Independent, Plaid voters. So those who vote Reform agreed to have their human rights taken away, that's their look out but I don't see why the people who.didn't vote Reform should accept Farage as PM unless they can remain in the ECHR.
Of course that won't happen but I wish it would. We shouldered the burden of Brexit as a universal nation because Britain were lied to by Farage and Boris didn't get a good enough deal...however people who wanted out of the EU have want they want imo. They just don't like the reality of being poorer which was what leaving the EU was always going to mean.
So Remainers put up with it once... But believing that snakesoil salesman a second time will be one time too many for most. The Tories ruined the NHS, the immigration system and the country..people expecting Starmer to fix a 20 million debt in one year are being totally unrealistic. I don't like the man but he receives more negative press than Liz Truss did when she literally bankrupted the country overnight..It's just not right. We need Burnham not Farage and obviously not to unite with Russia by leaving the ECHR.
Sorry for long post Syl!

You can amend the ECHR to ensure immigrants can be deported AND to make sure UK residents don't lose any necessary rights. Yvette Cooper suggested this. Why didn't Farage? He's just happy to take us out of the ECHR so the little people will be as vulnerable as possible. Farage doesn't care about people's liberties or he wouldn't have zero qualms about removing them. He can do what he wants to pensions, benefits, wages,..those rights are in place to protect us Mags! Only Russia and Belarus are not part of the ECHR, doesn't that tell you something,do you want to be stuck with them?
The right wing politicians and press only want to make money , they don't care about people who aren't as rich as they would like to be. You don't have to have Starmer but you have to endorse critical thinking. Farage wants us to leave the European Courts of Human Rights. No other countries except Russia and Belarus have done this.Ask yourself, why not,? Really.
If you think there will be no consequences for you, or others, you will be sadly disappointed. Farage, Trump's friend didn't even state that swans were being eaten by immigrants. He actually said "What if I told you .." , so technically he was merely asking a question and can claim he hasn't said anything offensive about immigrants. But the seed has already been planted. Doubt in people's mind's, bigotry solidified in others.
Farage is going to be able to take people basic freedoms. Why didn't he say like Yvette Cooper, that the ECHR could be adjusted to ensure immigrants must be deported but ensure we obviously as British people are allowed to keep our human rights? Because if you don't care about keeping your human rights he sure as He'll won't. Farage is a millionaire, Trump's mate, and all he cares about is profit.
If he is so trustworthy where is a the 2 million he promised the NHS? He was the Pied piper of Brexit who led you all a merry dance and now you are allowing him to lie to you all over again. You do recall that Brexit was meant to reduce immigration? It's got ten times worse! Think of logic, not emotion.
If you vote Reform that's fine day goodbye to your human rights but the rest of the leftie "go along to get along " Brits have finally had enough. That Snake oil salesman is not stealing our rights.

Regarding your BIB the lady below is a bit crude for my liking but she explains how rumours are made up of facts misrepresented for political means by the right media and how it doesn't matter if it's all untrue..the seed of doubt is planted. I would start a minute in. I would like to know how you think she is error but of course you don't have to watch it. Sorry for edits.

Where has anyone said ALL migrants are eating wildlife? They don't need to. They get three square meals a day at our expense.
Don't worry Digs, we won't be able to afford meals for anyone else soon. Half the nurses, carers teachers 3rd will.be gone too if Farage is taking away legal.migration which I believe he may be. So people will be forced to go private.Which the right has wanted for many decades.
And if it's not believed some immigrants eat Swans why did it merit so many column inches?

He doesn't have to Starmer has. We have no rights, no freedom of speech, and we are in ECHR.
Snake oil salesman? Lol, I would give that title to Starmer and all liebour MPs.
Brexit promised much, but Boris did a bad deal and we got nothing from it. Would I vote Brexi t now, not a chance.
@ Red…honestly not being snarky - genuine question: Aside from taking on the UK’s immigration issues, which is probably the only motivation Brits need to vote him in, how effective overall do you think Farage would be as PM?

It's was true.
We need Burnham not Farage and obviously not to unite with Russia
by leaving the ECHR.
Sorry for long post Syl!
What was the source? The men will have been arrested of course. So the instances will be a matter of public record.
I.never thought I would say this but see how the Tories improve. They are to the right but at least have the common sense to know there are certain things we cannot do.
Two people were either suffocated or drowned on a packed boat yesterday. Amazing that the vast majority of people who cross over illegally from France are male, yet the two who died are women.
Where has anyone said ALL migrants are eating wildlife? They don't need to. They get three square meals a day at our expense.

Do we speak of anything else ?
But in seriousness, that is so tragic. It's because the women are desperate genuine refugees and packed on vessels that are probably unsafe. The men make sure they are alright.I
Why the women are coming here hoping for compassion I don't know. If they are genuine refugees I pray they stay in France. I'm ashamed of this country.
